M/M Second Chance Romance

Greg loves his sister and with her on bed rest due to her pregnancy, Greg is charged with making their mutual friend Cynthia's bachelorette party a hit. There's one problem... Greg knows nothing about throwing a bachelorette party.

When the bakery that his sister wanted is unavailable, Greg seeks out another one that was recommended to him. What he didn't expect was to find an ex-boyfriend.

Rhys is an amazing baker. When he sees Greg again, he immediately apologizes for being young and immature in his relationship with Greg. He also agrees to help Greg pull off an amazing bachelorette party.

These two have sweet, almost young adult chemistry. They make each other laugh and allow themselves to see if they can rekindle their young love relationship. This book was sweet, funny, and had the added bonus of hilarious bachelorette food.

Sweet Anticipation is a quick enjoyable read. Gregory and Rhys had a brief romance in college and get a second change when Gregory hires Rhys to help him prepare the food for a bachelorette party. This is easy-to-read fun story. I really enjoyed the time the men spent in the kitchen. Sweet Anticipation really put me in the mood to do my Christmas baking.

After coming out to his parents doesn’t go well, Chad’s hairdresser, Joy, takes him in. Chad is such a good guy and the reaction of his parents when he comes out is awful and had me in tears several times. But the romance with Joy is so sweet and full of love, it made me so happy.

I loved reading novellas at Christmas and For Joy is wonderful. I read it in one sitting and it just made my heart sing and the ending is perfect!

The first man Crystel fell in love with was Beauty's Beast. Next came Robin Hood, then Mr. Darcy. Two decades of married life later, she still loves fictional men – especially when there are two of them who are meant to be! She likes it best when she can create their plights and fights herself, and she can always be counted on to throw in some sizzling hotness and a lot of feels. Here's her author promise: no fade-outs when things get steamy or emotional, and an ending that will leave you smiling.

Crystel is a lawyer by training, a lover of pastry, and a believer in Happy Ever Afters. Born and raised in Hamburg, Germany, and a North Sea girl at heart, she lives in the beautiful Austrian Alps with her big, noisy family.

M/M Friends to lovers romance

Kyle, Maria, and James have known each other since they were kids. It was James who kept Maria and Kyle out of trouble and made sure nobody bullied them while in high school. Maria and Kyle have stayed very close friends, but lately, Maria has noticed Kyle start to pull away from her and her family. Not really sure why, she tells him that no matter what, she's dragging him out.

After James and Kyle share a heated dance, Kyle really isn't sure what to make of it. James has always been a player and Kyle knows that his heart couldn't take any rejection from the one man that he's had a crush on always. Plus, Kyle isn't willing to risk losing the family that he's been part of for so long.

Honestly, while this is a cute story, I didn't really get the chemistry between Kyle and James. Molly and Stan had more chemistry in their short part of the story than the main couple had throughout. While this had great potential to be a cute holiday read, it just didn't really work for me.

Kim Katil patrols the Universe with her dignity of dragons during the Harvest Moon. The rest of the time, Kim lives in the mythical and contentious territory known as Central Jersey. Originally from South Jersey, she is still unsure if Central Jersey is a real place or a Fae construct. Her movement from the lower to middle band of the state was interrupted by time spent living in Ireland, Boston, Uzbekistan, Maryland, Trinidad, and Florida. So far, she has only been asked to leave one country. She currently shares a house with two other adults, three teens, two dogs, and four snakes.

While Kim would love to have a writing cave, she is content to make due with an imaginary yurt that she brings with her for use in airports, on planes and trains, and in hotels. Work-related travel is an unfortunate side effect of the day job but allows her to meet new and interesting people along the way. She has been known to have dinner with random strangers in airports and at street fairs. This level of “peopling” has caused shock and horror in her writers’ group.

A happily ever after is a necessity. Kim loves to give her characters a fun adventure to get them there and a plethora of family and friends to help them along the way.

Angela – ☆☆☆☆
This was a cute love at first sight story. The idea of an annual Christmas Compromise vacation was a novel yet believable plot device for me, and I thought it was a great way to engineer a meeting between a pirate living in Florida and a painter from Indiana. I’ll be honest, because I didn’t reread the blurb before starting Exit Through the Gift Shop, I thought Alex’s holiday fling was going to be with the amusement park’s Poseidon and I was a tad disappointed. So obviously, I was quite pleased when Alex and Rory met in the gift shop and sparks began to fly. I found it adorable that Alex steered his family toward Rory’s regularly assigned ride in hopes of crossing paths with the pirate again, even if he failed to take advantage of it the second time. Fortunately for all, Rory was a bit more active in making his interests known and the two have a rather lovely if brief first date. I really enjoyed how the two guys spent their time talking and getting to know about one another’s lives and their hopes for the future. It made their fledgling relationship feel more real and made me believe in a future for them as a couple, especially as they considered their short time together as Christmas gifts to themselves. I adored the Christmas day celebration and how welcoming Alex’s family was to Rory and how supportive they were of Alex when Rory presented him with an unexpected opportunity for the new year. This was a really cute story about two sweet guys who hit it off splendidly and recognized that something special in the other that gave them the courage to take the next step – all thanks to a bargain-seeking family, a malfunctioning ride, and a little holiday magic.

Kim Fielding is the bestselling author of numerous m/m romance novels, novellas, and short stories. Like Kim herself, her work is eclectic, spanning genres such as contemporary, fantasy, paranormal, and historical. Her stories are set in alternate worlds, in 15th century Bosnia, in modern-day Oregon. Her heroes are hipster architect werewolves, housekeepers, maimed giants, and conflicted graduate students. They’re usually flawed, they often encounter terrible obstacles, but they always find love.

Kim’s novel Brute was the 2013 Rainbow Award Winner for Best Gay Fantasy and tied for fourth place for Best Gay Novel.

After having migrated back and forth across the western two-thirds of the United States, Kim calls the boring part of California home. She lives there with her husband, her two daughters, and her day job as a university professor, but escapes as often as possible via car, train, plane, or boat. This may explain why her characters often seem to be in transit as well. She dreams of traveling and writing full-time.

This is a short story which takes grieving Levi across the pond to Spain, to stay with his brother. Unfortunately, snow hampers Jesse's return and Levi is left to his own devices. I liked how we were brought the seasonal weather, even when in a Mediterranean holiday town – and the local custom of celebrating the Three Kings' added culture to the start of a very sweet romance. Levi needed the patience that Alex possessed thanks in part to his parenthood, and he needed the confidence that he would be there as he worked through his issues.

There is definitely a feel-good factor to this Advent story – do give it a read!

Beth Laycock’s books are influenced by her time living overseas as well as the gritty, urban landscape of the north of England where she grew up. She has been reading romance since she was old enough to tell herself that line every book lover does—just one more chapter.

As a teenager, she attempted to write her first novel, and many more since then are still gathering dust on her bookshelf. It wasn’t until she discovered the M/M genre that her muse showed up and refused to quit telling her stories about beautiful men finding love together. She hasn’t stopped scribbling them down since. Beth’s muse usually shows up when she is in the shower, is allergic to cleaning, rarely lets her watch TV, and insists she drinks copious amounts of coffee so she can turn caffeine into words.

When not writing or reading, Beth can be found procrastinating on social media or being dragged around the English countryside by her dog Freddie.

Haste Ye Back by R. Quincy Cameron – Warmest Wishes

The situation seems ideal: a month off work and a sweet deal to extend his stay in an unexpected paradise. Needless to say, Aaron is thrilled to snag an extra few days in Scotland after his work conference to soak up the magic of the country.

However, his plans to tourist his way around Edinburgh before his January 1st flight home are thwarted by a strange influx of people into the capital. Add in trains that don't run on New Year's, fireworks, first-footing, and running into the same gorgeous stranger as he exits every other shop, and Aaron really should have googled what “Hogmanay” was before he found himself whisked into the whirlwind of Scottish revelry and the impossible draw of that sexy stranger who tastes like scotch and, impossibly, already feels like the beginnings of home.

This short story happens in Edinburgh at the turn of the year; a place which celebrates the arrival of the new year with style.

Aaron is finding out just how loud and wild it can get, and then gets this strange feeling that he keeps bumping into the same person for a reason. Connor is an unexpected bonus to his trip and one who may just change his life forever. We have to imagine how it ends, although the poem gives us a strong clue; I would have welcomed an epilogue.

R. Quincy Cameron writes languid sentences that tend to move more like poetry than prose, and that aim to grip the heart as much as make it race. A serial relocator, always moving north and east, she currently lives on an island—to her great surprise—and loves to watch the sea.

After winning the creative writing competition at the state fair once upon a time (she was hoping to raise cows—but alas), she began a torrid love affair with the written word. It is almost certainly the best relationship she’s ever had.

By day, she (hopefully) helps to shape the great minds of the future in very old lecture halls; she indulges frequently in a cuppa or a pint with friends and colleagues by afternoon, marks exam scripts by evening, and enjoys a wee dram every night before swapping sleep for writing. As you do.

This routine generally requires four to ten cups of coffee a day—depending on the day. Her baristas love her enough to know her order and warn when the blend changes. Her cafetière likely does not love her, because she’s broken the glass on it from overuse about ten times.

She primarily publishes essays and poetry, which have won awards nationally and internationally. She has been told throughout the years that she’s trying to beat James Joyce on account of sentence length, and that she strings said sentences together like a “postmodern female Alan Ginsberg”. That questionable online “I Write Like” generator tells her she writes like Margaret Atwood and Ernest Hemingway.

You can be the judge if any of them were even remotely accurate.

Purrfect Holiday by Jana Denardo – Warmest Wishes

Tony Gatti had his life planned: get his veterinarian license and go to work with his dad and uncle. Soon after achieving his goals, he learned the shadows and blurriness in his vision went beyond needing glasses. Retinitis pigmentosa is a genetic mutation with no cure. With his sight almost gone, he moves into his grandmother’s St. Augustine, Florida, home with his guide dog, Raven, to start life over. Nonna Concetta thinks she knows the perfect job for him. Her vet is looking for someone to destress the cats at a local rescue.

Javier didn’t plan to hire a cute former veterinarian to fill the role of cat cuddler, but Tony couldn’t be more perfect. Worried his attraction is inappropriate and knowing the holiday season always depresses him, Javier wonders if he should ask Tony out, or if he’d just be spreading the gloom to someone who already has enough of his own. But if he takes the plunge, could it turn out to be the best holiday ever?

Tony is living with his grandma and despite his blindness, he's learning to cope with his diagnosis. While he misses his ability to practice, his grandma offers him a great solution: Cat cuddler.

Javier is the local vet and when he puts an ad for a cat cuddler, he doesn't expect Tony. Tony is attractive and knowledgeable. Javier doesn't want to pity Tony, but at the same time he wants to make sure that Tony is getting what he needs.

Tony and Javier are two peas in a pod. I loved watching them build their relationship and especially loved watching Tony's grandma with them. It's a sweet story about finding your way.

I swear it’s only in December that my reading choices head towards cute, cuddly, and adorable. This one is all three and it might even be a little bit too sweet for a Christmas read. When Javier, a gorgeous veterinarian, hires Tony to be his practice’s cat cuddler, he falls hard for the beautiful man who is nearly blind. Yep. A book full of kittens and a gorgeous service dog. I couldn’t help but smile. And the food! Christmas is a blend of Tony’s Italian traditions and Javier’s Puerto Rican favourites. Add in Tony’s fabulous grandmother and this is a book that will give readers all sorts of warm fuzzies. This is a low heat read that is high on romance and adorable pets.

Twenty-Nine Hours to Eternity by Elizabeth Noble – Warmest Wishes

Being gay and pagan can make for a lonely holiday season, as Ian knows well. He’s used to celebrating alone. The last place he expects to meet a like-minded guy is at LAX during a twenty-nine-hour layover.

Ian’s never felt so comfortable or compatible with another man, even if there is an air of mystery to Race.

Race is no stranger to holiday isolation, and he decides they should seize the opportunity they’ve been given and observe the Saturnalia the way it was meant to be. A grand celebration ensues, where every moment is special and every meal a feast. The ancient traditions take on new meaning as the men find meaning in each other. But each of them has a destiny and for their paths to continue together, it’ll take a kind of magic that hasn’t been seen in centuries.

Angela – ☆☆☆☆☆
Twenty-Nine Hours to Eternity is another one of my favorite advent calendar stories from this year’s collection. Growing up in the Southern Bible Belt, I wasn’t exposed to many pagan rituals – at least, not the ones that weren’t co-opted into holiday traditions while ignoring their roots. Fortunately for me, my family were transplants and open-mindedness was encouraged, including my fascination with Greek mythology. I’m not sure why I never delved into Roman mythology, but my limited knowledge of the subject is part of what made this particular story so interesting to me as I can’t actually recall ever hearing about Saturnalia. But it was Ian and Race who really made the story. Well, and that beginning.

I’m a sucker for well-written stories that show a glimpse of the end of the tale to build suspense over the weeks, days, or hours leading up to that fateful event. Granted, the countdown style format of storytelling doesn’t often lend itself well to romance and I wouldn’t expect it to work in a novelette. However, Elizabeth Noble did an outstanding job of opening the story with an extreme scene, backtracking twenty-nine hours to show how Ian and Race met, then showing how their short time together was spent, and how a bond was formed over the course of hours. Not only did I find myself invested in learning more about Ian, but I had to know what had happened in the preceding twenty-nine hours that had led him to the heartbreaking scene at the beginning. And while I enjoyed watching Ian and Race meet and spend time together, I was awestruck when the twist was revealed and Ian was offered the choice of a lifetime. It was one of the most unexpected happy endings I’ve ever read, which is probably why I loved it so much. The mammoths were a nice touch, too.

Mystery, action, chills and thrills spiced with romance and desire. Elizabeth Noble started telling stories before she actually knew how to write, and her family was very happy when she learned to put words on a page. Those words turned into books and fanfiction that turned into a genuine love of M/M romance fiction. Being able to share her works with Dreamspinner is really a dream come true. She has a real love for a good mystery complete with murder and twisty plots as well as all things sci-fi, futuristic, and supernatural and a bit of an unnatural interest in a super-volcano in Wyoming.

Elizabeth has three grown children and is now happily owned by an adorable mixed breed canine princess, a spunky Welsh Corgi and their sidekick, tabby cat. She lives in her native northeast Ohio, the perfect place for gardening and winter and summer sports (go Tribe and Cavs!) and stargazing all year long. When she’s not writing she’s working as a veterinary nurse, so don’t be surprised to see her men with a pet or three who are a very big part of their lives.

Elizabeth received several amateur writing awards. Since being published several of her novels have received Honorable Mentions in the Rainbow Awards. Jewel Cave was a runner up in the Gay Mystery/Thriller category in the 2015 Rainbow Awards. Ringed Love was a winner in the Gay Fantasy Romance category of the 2016 Rainbow Awards.
