Opening the bathroom door, I exit to go to my bedroom to get dressed.

Murph is sitting cross-legged on his floor across the hall, surrounded by piles of neatly folded clothes. His legs look bony in his jeans, and his lean arms are fussing with fabric. His dark head tilts up as he hears me, and I don’t miss the slow sweep of his eyes from my head to my feet, lingering on my torso and my towel.

A missed drop of water trails down my chest, and I wipe it away.

Murph licks his lips. I can almost see the resolve on his face as he swivels his head, picking up a stack of shirts and setting them to the side.

It takes all my acting ability to maintain a poker face until I get to my room.

I’m going to have to get used to that. I don’t usually mind being ogled—not that there’s that much to ogle, though I stay in decent shape by running and keeping active.

Dropping my towel, I step into navy blue sweats.

Does it bother me that Murph looked at me that way? Like he wanted to have me for dinner instead of the baked ziti I’m planning to make?

I tug a battered old gray T-shirt over my head while I consider the question. Because now that I’m living with a guy who’s into guys, I have to sort out my thoughts on the matter.

If my roommate were a woman and she checked me out, would it bother me?

No. I’d be flattered.

So I guess I’m flattered by him as well. This doesn’t have to be complicated.

I take my towel into the bathroom and hang it up. Murph’s still on his floor sorting clothes, either absorbed in what he’s doing or ignoring me.

I’m not scared he’s going to put the moves on me or anything. Obviously. Since he knows I’m straight.

At least, I assume he knows that.

Shit, maybe I should be clear with him. So he doesn’t think there’s any chance—

Jesus, Jason. Not everyone wants to bang you.

I don’t know why my brain is getting all weird like this. And I’m not sure how to bring it up in conversation. Hey, Murph, I know you’re gay, but don’t try anything.

Yeah, that sounds like an utterly arrogant thing to say. It assumes he wants me and, moreover, that he’d act on it.

Neither of those assumptions is accurate, I’m sure.

Well, if it comes up, I’ll tell him. Otherwise, no need to make things awkward.

This is the eighteenth book in this multi-author series based in Sarina Bowen's True North world. I have read many of them, and really enjoy catching up with old friends and reading about new loves.

Following on from an earlier story, Murph needs new digs, so moves in with Jason. Jason is incredibly sensible, working as an insurance man with his dad and living a very structured, rather lonely life. Then the flamboyant Murphy moves in and awakens some feelings he had never previously even knew existed.

It is really lovely watching as Jason is clueless as to his flatmate feeling the chemistry between them, and not wanting to act on it, as Jason identifies as straight. As time passes and Jason realises, with his sister's help, that maybe he is most likely jealous when he reacts badly to Murph's dates, the truth sinks in. He is then very open to being with Murph, but that road is not entirely smooth.

This is a really enjoyable story, with a good mix of heat, love, revelation, and acceptance. It is thought-provoking in many ways, and overall a good read.

Let the games begin.

The professor’s words are like nails in my improv coffin. Aside from Kolby’s brief description of Questions Only and a handful of Whose Line episodes, I’m completely clueless as to what we’re doing here.

My body language must give away my nervousness because Kolby puts a hand on my shoulder. It’s warm and strong and reassuring. I try not to think about how much more I like his touch than Quinn’s. How much more I like everything about him, even though she’s objectively hot and practically throwing herself at me and he’s an emotional vault who thinks I’m a dumb, entitled jock.

Not that it matters, I remind myself. Because I’m not here to make friends. Or get laid. I’m here to play hockey and save my shot at the NHL.

And, apparently, because the universe hates me, do improv. It’s like my worst nightmare coming true, the one where I’m accepting the Calder Memorial Trophy for best NHL rookie in my underwear. No, I take it back. This is worse. I may have been half naked in my dream, but at least I had a script. Having to go up there and pull something out of my ass is just cruel.

Professor Frost is barking out instructions, and I force myself to pay attention. I’m already lost. The last thing I need is to get myself even further behind by zoning out.

“Rachel and Ian, since you two obviously understand what we’re doing, you’ll start.” He motions them to the center of the room.

“The rest of you, form a line along the wall near the whiteboard. When a player takes too long to respond or fails to answer with a question, they’ll hear this sound.” He produces a plastic dinosaur from behind his back and presses a button on its back. It comes to life with a tinny, electronic roar. “That’s their cue to take a seat, and the first person in line will replace them. Got it?”

Apparently, I’m the only one who thinks it’s weird that a grown man is playing with a toy T-Rex because the rest of the class just nods and murmurs their assent as they line up against the wall. I can’t believe my parents are paying good money for me to take this ridiculous, useless class. And that my future as a hockey player rests on me passing it.

I drag my feet, in no hurry to be part of the action. The further back I am, the more time I have to figure out what the fuck I’m doing. I feel a hand on the small of my back, nudging me toward the end of the line. To my surprise, it’s Kolby. I thought he’d be racing to the front, dying to get up there and show off.

“Come on,” he says. “We can watch the others so you can see how it’s done before it’s your turn.”

“We?”

His lips quirk into a cheeky grin that lights up his face and simultaneously makes me want to push him away and pull him closer. “You didn’t think I was going to desert you in your time of need, did you?”

Honestly, yeah, I did. It wouldn’t be the first time someone’s let me down.

He gives me another subtle nudge forward. What’s not so subtle are the tremors racing up and down my spine from the spot where his hand rests, just above the waistband of my track pants. It burns through the thin fabric of my T-shirt like there’s not even a barrier between us. I don’t even want to think about what a mess I’d be if we were skin-on-skin.

We take our places at the back of the line. Kolby stands in front of me, letting me go last. Does he have to be so damn nice in addition to being so freaking hot? It makes him harder to resist, even though I know he’s only doing it because the professor forced him to. Kolby made his opinion of me loud and clear in the registrar’s office. As far as he’s concerned, I’m the poster child for pampered jocks.

I cling to that thought in the hope that it will kill any feelings I’m starting to have for this guy. I have to focus if I’m going to pass this class.

This is the seventeenth book in this multi-author series based in Sarina Bowen's True North world. I have read many of them, and really enjoy catching up with old friends and reading about new loves.

This is a college sports-based romance, which still links into Vino & Veritas. I really enjoyed a different location that linked into the familiar friends. The reason that Adam joined Moo U mid-course may have been something which could damage his NHL chances, but when he ends up with an Improv class to make up credits, he really cannot face! He appeals to have it changed, but instead ends up working in class with Kolby, the very person who would not change it for him! There is such an interesting chemistry between the guys, but neither of them is prepared to act on it. Both burned before and both focussed on their dreams of success in their fields.

It is lovely being a bystander as we get to see them grow as people, as well as together. They are intelligent, fun, and intensely sexy. They have to deal with some difficult issues, but thankfully learn that communication – whether improv or well planned – can get the right results.

Another very good addition to the series.

Marley Valentine is quickly becoming a go-to m/m author. I haven't found one in the genre that I haven't enjoyed. The characters pull you in and have you so invested from the beginning. The storylines keep you wanting more, and the emotion is so real and raw. Valentine hits the mark every time. Unforgettable is no exception. I fell in love with Oz and Reeve.

Reeve is looking to be a different person in a different town. Hooking up with someone from an app is nothing like he'd ever do, but the new Reeve is trying new things. Meeting and having a one-night stand with Oz was a highlight, forgetting Oz would prove to be much harder than he expected.

Oz isn't a stranger to a one-night stand. It's what he knows, he's not the relationship type but something about Reeve won't let him forget the sweet man. When Reeve starts working at Vino & Veritas, it makes forgetting about Reeve that much harder.

I loved watching this relationship blossom and grow. Unforgettable is emotional and the chemistry is off the charts. I can't wait to see what Valentine has for us next!


Ruthie – ☆☆☆☆
This is the sixteenth book in this multi-author series based in Sarina Bowen's True North world. I have read them all so far, and it is fun seeing how different authors do great justice to the characters in this series.

Reeve is allowing himself one more summer of freedom before he goes to continue the family business. He has no interest in it, just parental pressure and duty. His first night in town, he indulges in using a hook-up app and spends time with Oz. In spite of attraction beyond the hook up, they part ways, only to meet up again as Reeve comes to work at Oz's place of work – Vino & Veritas.

Reluctant to accept the connection between them beyond friends, they work hard at that – until Oz asks Reeve to be his fake boyfriend at a family wedding. We watch on, well aware that they are lying to themselves about how they feel about each other. It is fun to see them try and pretend at what they know to be true. If nothing else, the way they heat up the sheets should make that clear!

As family issues for both men cause them problems, we can also see how differently they are treated by their parents, and the impact that has on their happiness. We can only wait for the future to be made clear to them, and their chance of a flourishing romance to become reality.

Another good addition to the series.

Tag knows how to tease a guy.

He texted on my lunch break to tell me that he’s got a surprise, but he won’t show me until I’m home from work. Part of me thinks it’s an excuse to get on the phone with me, but I’m totally willing to play along.

But ten minutes feels like a lifetime. Every time I glance at the clock, the minute hand hasn’t moved. And when I double-check my spreadsheet, I spot a few sloppy mistakes.

For once, my brain has checked out early. It’s too fixated on the memory of last night.

I can’t shake the visual, clear as day: Tag kneeling over me, one his strong hand curled around his cock as he grips my curls in his other fist. Okay, maybe I’m embellishing the memory, but I love him playing with my hair.

“Caleb?”

I gasp and throw my hands in the air like I’ve been caught stealing. Not that I’ve ever tried, of course. Too much of a goody two-shoes.

Oh my God, I’m a nerd. I hastily run my hands through my hair and try to breathe. “Yeah?” I lean around the edge of the cubicle, ready to roll toward my desk again in a hurry.

Gary stops on the other side of the office, car keys in hand. “Everyone else is gone. You nearly finished?” he calls out.

“Yeah. I’ll lock up in a minute,” I promise automatically.

He smiles and gives me a thumbs-up. “Don’t stay too long.” Gary’s the good kind of boss who doesn’t let us do unpaid overtime.

“I’m going right now.” As soon as I can walk home without poking an eye out. Maybe I should have said “coming in a minute.”

“Right on. Catch you tomorrow.”

I hold my breath, waiting for the office door to rattle, swing closed, and rattle again with the sound of Gary locking it.

Then I reach out for the blinds, twisting them closed. My heart thuds in my ribcage.

Heat pulsates through my cock as I roll back toward my desk again. I can barely breathe as I shut down my computer.

As the screen goes black, I draw a breath.

Just do it.

Before I can second-guess myself, I plunge my hand into my pants and underwear, cupping my aching cock. Pleasure washes through me, the oversensitive nerve endings finally satisfied—but not for long.

This is a very sweet and sexy read, which is a lovely, easy read. Unbeknown to the people of Burlington, Tag, the new mead maker in town, is in fact, a one-time rock superstar. He likes his anonymity and freedom to lead a quiet life. But a chance encounter has him rethinking everything. His feelings are intense from the moment he sees Caleb, and never really change. I love that single-mindedness. He may want to keep his past private, but in all other ways, he is utterly adorable as he guides the very innocent Caleb in their relationship.

Very enjoyable read.

 

 

 

Since 2013, E. DAVIES has crafted feel-good stories of men in love – stories that are brimming with hope, found families, and realistic guys next door getting their modern fairytale endings. "If you've got your flirting game on, the new bartender is H.O.T.," Wyatt says.

I look at Carter, who nods. "He has this sexy kind of European vibe going on."

And now I know how their earlier conversation got started.

I scan the bar but don't see anyone I don't already know. Then again, it's pretty busy out there.

Someone steps away from the bar area with a tray of drinks, and I immediately take their place. All the bartenders are busy, so I look around to inspect this evening's crowd.

A glass breaks somewhere behind the bar, taking my attention from the crowd waiting to be served to the clumsy bartender on the far end from where I'm standing.

He must be the new guy because I know I'd recognize that ass if I'd seen it before. Scrap that. I'd have tapped it. My eyes scan the rest of him, taking the time to appreciate his slim body from behind.

His dark jeans hug his ass perfectly, and his thighs… damn, those thighs look strong and… fuck. My dick responds to the way he moves as he's crouching to pick up the glass from the floor.

The dark button-down shirt is loose on him, and I wonder if it's a standard V&V-issued shirt because a guy that wears those jeans wouldn’t possibly choose to wear anything but a fitted shirt.

He washes his hands after disposing of the glass and then runs them through his dark-blond hair. I wonder if, in the light of day, his hair is actually a lighter shade.

Turn around, baby. Let me see your face.

And as if the god of horny gay single men is listening to my prayers, the guy turns around. He looks flustered and annoyed.

There's something about him I can't put my finger on, but it doesn't take me long to figure out what it is. Why he looks so familiar.

When he looks up, and his eyes meet mine, my body locks up in shock. I close my eyes and open them again because this isn't happening. I must be dreaming while awake.

I smile, wanting to jump over the counter to touch him. It’s the only way to be sure, but he looks as though he's seen a ghost.

One of the other bartenders bumps against him, making him jolt and take a side step.

I smile at him, and that's when I see the very slight shake of his head as I call to him before he runs to the staff area behind the bar.

"Jud!"

This is the 14th book in the series, and I think is a strong addition to this series of interconnected novels written in Sarina Bowen's True North world. You don't need to have read earlier books to enjoy it, but you would have more context, and many of them are excellent reads!

New Vino & Veritas bartender, Judson has returned from a spell in Europe as a chef and is home to lick his wounds before he starts afresh somewhere else. His romance and successful restaurant in Paris ended by a cruel partner, and living back in his childhood bedroom, he is holding it together best he can. So when his longest, one-time closest friend, now estranged, walks into the bar, they both get a shock.

Skyler never understood why Judson vanished on him after high school, and has stayed home, helping out at the family farm and building his own business on the side. A very lucrative side, one must add. He has not been home moping, but making the best of what remained of his dreams.

As these two men cannot resist the pull of old friendship, as well as the possibility of a second chance together, we get to understand what happened, and how they could rekindle a true and wonderful romance.

Another good read with interesting insights into the world of maple syrup and fine dining.
