Ruthie – ☆☆☆☆
I am a big fan of Ms. Kostova's novels, and this is an excellent addition to her list. It is refreshingly different, and hopeful without being sugarcoated. I don't always read the preamble, but happened to in this case, and was moved by her words.

At the heart of the story is the opportunity for redemption and a future. It may well be different from the past, and may require a lot of self-forgiveness, but it is possible. And that hope, and the determination to do it is key. It is also a beautifully simple love story, which acknowledges that no one has an entirely blameless past.

I loved the side characters and what they brought to the page – Rose, Ruby, Frank, even Josh. Aiden was very important, and it was impossible not to sense his longing, which compelled him to leave. Ben and Finn learning about each other, and moving forward with their relationship and life, was intense and yet light.

Ms. Kostova often writes about dance, and I think of her writing as being just as fluid. It weaves across the page with lovely pace, and twists and turns, making a rich and lyrical experience for the reader. It was not difficult to see what would happen, but the story-telling retained magic and mystery to the end.

When they moved to the next section of the store, browsing the shelves of pasta, canned tomatoes, and the huge selection of olive oils and balsamic vinegars, something caught Vin’s eye.

“Can we get this?” He asked, holding a packed of penis-shaped pasta, and barely containing the giggle that was threatening to erupt.

“We’re not having penis pasta on Christmas,” Luca threw over his shoulder, but Vin could hear the smile in his voice.

“How about the day after?”

Luca shook his head in resignation when Vin threw the packet in the cart and grinned at him.

“I can’t believe you can actually buy penis pasta in a regular supermarket,” he said as they continued down the aisle, Luca picking stuff off the shelves and adding it to the ever growing pile of groceries in the cart.

“This is Italy. We’re not prudes,” he said with a wink.

They dropped off the dozen shopping bags at Luca’s place before venturing out again to try and find a last minute Christmas tree and decorations. Watching Luca, his eyes twinkling every time he saw a decoration he liked or a silly little Christmas knick-knack that he had no space for in his apartment, Vin realized Luca was a huge fan of everything Christmas. A feeling of tenderness clutched at his heart every time Luca smiled with unguarded joy like a kid about to unwrap his presents.

I just love the way this author can pull you into a story, and you are held there so tight, you just can’t let go. Once I started this book I had to finish it the same day, I couldn’t put it down! There were some very emotional times in this book. I found myself feeling each characters’ pain and joy. I even shed a tear or two… or three. This is a beautiful love story that just melts your heart. Luca and Vin are just so amazing together you can’t help but love them and root for them to get their happily ever after.

This is total instalove, but the story is so sweet that I just didn’t care. Two young men, both estranged from family, find each other just before Christmas. Vincent’s grief is tempered by his anger at his famous father for abandoning him. Luca’s dreams have been curtailed because of the parents who disowned him. And together, these men find comfort and affection.

This is a very simple story, but the emotions and relationships are complicated. Both of these men feel real and they are both really easy to love. The relationship isn’t always balanced. While Luca might have more difficult problems to resolve, he spends much of the story helping Vincent with his issues.

With the “meet again in a year at the fountain” storyline, the story borrows from classic Hollywood romance. And there is something sweet and universally appealing about this love story. It is short and sweet, but very satisfying.

I love Ms. Kostova's writing, so I was really happy to get to read and review this book. Her writing is so smooth and enticing, that I knew I would do nothing else but read it straight through! I find her lead characters are always people I would want to be friends with; who are creative, yet enjoy the simple pleasures in life, such as a good meal, relaxing on a sofa, and admiring a view. And I think the reveal on the title (if you don't know already) is beautifully done.

Vin is not quite the man we think he is when we first meet him, it takes time for his full story to be uncovered, and we grew to understand him better as he learns more about his past. The support he gets from Luca is what gives him a chance to discover himself. That we get to experience these two falling for each other is a real treat. They absolutely deserve each other, and the ending is perfect – for any true romantic!

If you want a really lovely Christmas read, then I would highly recommend this to you. It has gone on my to be reread pile, for when I need to put a smile on my face.

4.5 sexy and shiny stars

Ms. Kostova has a writing style which works for me, and the imagination to create a world in which you can readily believe. It was really interesting at the end to read the author's notes, and understand some of the background too. I have to say it is a testament to her, that I read these notes, as I really didn't want the story to be over. In fact, I would like to put in a plea that we meet these two again – maybe as extras in another couple's story? Please?

My advice is get a copy and read it for yourself – you can get the idea of the story from the blurb, and I can reassure you that it works, it is funny, hot, super sexy, and a really satisfying read.

This book was just okay for me, until the very last chapter. Amir lost a leg while in the military, he starts his own bakery. Jay is a student. When Amir sees Jay in his bakery he instantly thinks he is good looking. When Jay comes into the bakery again, Amir gives him his phone number. Amir craves intimacy, but he can’t let people in. Jay unlocks things in Amir that no one else has, he shows Jay his scars, he opens his heart, and he tells him things he has never told anyone before. We really don’t find out much about Jay, there are hints that he has had some crappy boyfriends in the past, but nothing is ever spoken of it. At times in the book I felt the connection with Amir and Jay, but at other times I only felt them from Amir. There just seemed to be something missing but I am not sure what. The story was good, but I just didn’t feel everything I normally feel when reading this author’s books. I will have to say the presentation that Jay made about heroes made me tear up. That part of the book won me over. Oh, and we did briefly see two characters from another series by this author too! Overall the book was just okay for me.

3.5 sweet stars.

Cookies hit many of the right notes for me: military men, food, pets, and wounded inside and out. I was looking forward to a hurt-comfort, heartwarming read.

Teodora Kostova isn't a new-to-me author after reading and reviewing Snowed In. She has fast pacing and an easy flowing writing style that has the pages turning quickly. Also, the author's stories are generally insta-love/attraction, with a warm and fuzzy comfort and an intense heat level and Cookies is no different. The book was relationship-centric, with not too many scenes dealing with angst or conflict, but with a few hitches in their relationship.

Amir, aka Cookie (named as such in the military for when he made batches of cookies for his fellow soldiers), is a bakery owner, dog daddy, and a member of a rehabilitation center. At the start of the novel, in walks Jay, admiring the sweets, and Amir finds what he's looking for instead.

The author delivered on everything that was promised for returning readers who knew what to expect, but new readers may not get what they bargained for. The well-written blurb made it seem as if it would be a bit more of an emotional journey through PTSD, dealing with the prosthetic leg, and Amir moving on with his life. For those expecting an intense journey of hurt-comfort, running your emotions up and down like a carnival ride, that's not what Cookies is.

Cookies is a romance novel, delivering on all the sweet, sultry, and emotions of such as two men form a bond. Lighthearted, a few guilty pleasure hours of romance as the pages fly by quickly.

Why did I rate 3.5 stars? Even knowing I wasn't going to get it, I still hoped I'd get something more hard-hitting like the blurb promised. The premise was solid and it had a ton of potential, opening up the opportunity to add a level of emotional depth it was otherwise lacking, but the author never went 'there.' Also, I wanted more time with the poor pup. Amir was a bad pet parent, always leaving his pup at the rehabilitation center, having friends watch the pooch after hours. I kept thinking to myself, "What about the dog?" But then the author would Band-Aid it by having someone pick the dog up and take it home as an afterthought. As I said, I'm a sucker for a pet in a story, and I wanted to rescue this one.

Recommended for MM romance fans who melt into a puddle of goo for two hot guys falling in love, but be warned that the romance is front and center and the total focus of the story.

Will I read more by this author? Yes. I don't know if this is a series, but the side characters were shown to have a good deal of angst which would create intriguing stories.

This was a short holiday novella about second chances. Nate has been in love with Quinn for years. They finally have one hot night together and then Quinn ups and leaves. The reason for him leaving isn’t revealed for two years, which I thought was excessive but I am sure stranger things have happened in real life. I thought Nate and Quinn were a great couple with a lot of chemistry. This would have been a great full length novel with a little more tweaking and details.

I have always enjoyed Ms. Kostova's novels, and this short story gives us a cute Christmas read. It is so frustrating that the two men didn't talk to each other – but then the plot wouldn't work otherwise! There is some fun humour and a happy resolution to the years of unrequited love.

Enjoyable afternoon's reading with a sweet and warmhearted ending.

Snowed In definitely served its purpose. As a holiday novella, you expect the warm and fuzzy feels, a holiday-themed premise, a few hours of escapism, and romance. Ms. Kostova delivered on all the necessary requirements and then some.

Knowing the novella surrounds the holidays, there are time constraints for the growth of the characters. To solve this issue, the author wrote Snowed In in two parts: Part One via Nate's narration two years ago, and Part Two via Quinn's narration in the present setting.

Snowed In had it all: an interesting backstory that connects the characters, a misunderstanding/miscommunication to create the 'second chance romance' angsty angle, and then trapped the characters in a cabin during a holiday storm. In this lusty little novella, all action happens in that cabin, in the past and in the present, and it's enough to melt the blizzard-level snow falling around them.

The reason for my 3.5 star rating is simply because I couldn't suspend belief enough for the two-year separation, or for Quinn not explaining why he had to return to Chicago alone, if they were 'that' in love. The misunderstanding/miscommunication, when they were raised as nearly brothers, was not plausible in the least. In all that time, I find it bizarre that Nate's mother or brother wouldn't have mentioned what Quinn was going through. So it was definitely fabricated and forced in nature. While beyond angsty, if anything, instead of the way it was written, Quinn telling the truth from the get-go, it would have drawn the characters together in a tighter bond instead of tearing them apart.

Also, pronoun confusion. 3rd person. The 'he/his/him' at the start of the sentence would be Nate, while the he/his/him at the end of the sentence would be Quinn, or vice-versa. This is especially difficult with this being MM and both men are obviously a HE.

Snowed In was sweet, and I enjoyed my time reading the story. If I am in the mood for some light and fluffy in the future, more by this author would certainly do the trick.

Note for those who only read MM: The romance was masterfully done, but the MM could have been interchangeable with MF by simply changing Nate's name to a feminine equivalent and the manly parts for girly bits. Nate's actions, reactions, dialogue, and thought processes were definitely female in nature.

Piece by Piece is the third book in the West End series, while I highly recommend you read the other books first you don’t have to. This was another brilliant book. I felt every emotion these two characters went through and at times I had to put the book down because I didn’t want it to end and I was afraid of what would happen next. We have met both Riley and Sonnie in the previous books but this is their story. Riley’s past just breaks my heart and I felt his pain from the very start. I can’t tell you how many times I cried while reading this book, some happy tears, and some sad tears. Sonnie has the patience of a saint and it just makes you love him even more. I don’t want to give anything away about this story, you have to read it and experience it yourself but I promise you will love it and love Riley & Sonnie.

I have enjoyed all of the books in the series, but this one was absolutely brilliant. I would definitely recommend that you read them all as Ms. Kostova is a talented writer, but if you only read one, then make it this one. Beautifully written, fabulous story and just the perfect mix of love, sadness, passion, and the every day. Patience, trust and love – Sonnie turned out to be one heck of a good guy, which was quite a surprise after the previous books. Loved it, and the background setting of theatreland and costume design just added to the richness of the story.

This series, and this book in particular are definitely on my reread this year list. Do yourself a favour, make yourself a drink, find a corner where you can hide out, download this onto your Kindle and be enchanted by this lovely tale.

Hi, my name is Teodora and I live in London with my husband and my son. I've been writing ever since I can remember, but it became my full time job a few years ago when I decided that everything else I've tried bores me to death and I have to do what I've always wanted to do, but never had the guts to fully embrace. I've been a journalist, an editor, a personal assistant and an interior designer among other things, but as soon as the novelty of the new, exciting job wears off, I always go back to writing. Being twitchy, impatient, loud and hasty are not qualities that help a writer, because I have to sit alone, preferably still, and write for most of the day, but I absolutely love it. It's the only time that I'm truly at peace and the only thing I can do for more than ten minutes at a time - my son has a bigger attention span than me.

When I'm procrastinating, I like to go to the gym, cook Italian meals (and eat them), read, listen to rock music, watch indie movies and True Blood re-runs. Or, in the worst case scenario, get beaten at every Nintendo Wii game by a very inventive kid.
