The Idea of You by Darcy Burke Blog Tour

Evan Archer has always preferred peace and solitude to the loud antics of his large, hard-to-navigate family. But when Archer Enterprises needs a new creative director, Evan jumps at the chance to claim the job he’s always wanted. Moving home is easier than he expected, but Evan isn’t prepared for the stunning A-list celebrity hiding out in his family’s garage apartment.

Following a major tabloid scandal, movie star Alaina Pierce escapes to Ribbon Ridge. She’s immediately drawn to the quiet, picturesque town and the incredibly sexy—if a little quirky—Evan. He may be built like a Greek god, but he’s honest and straightforward… so different from the Hollywood types she normally dates.

Their attraction is undeniable, but Alaina can’t elude the paparazzi forever, and Evan has no interest in being in the limelight. When the secret she’s been keeping is exposed, the idea of Evan—of real love and a family like the Archers—could vanish in an instant.

Evan Archer rounded the larger of his parents’ two garages and was immediately hit by the smell of smoke and the peal of an alarm. He instinctively pressed his hands to his ears and looked up at the apartment on the second floor of the garage. Smoke billowed from an open window. Despite the excruciating sound, he ran toward the door, threw it open, and vaulted up the stairs. The door at the top, which led to the apartment, was open. The acrid scent of smoke assaulted his lungs as the scream of the alarm violated his ears.

A woman stood beneath the alarm madly waving a towel.

Evan strode to the dining table situated in front of the windows and pulled a chair beneath the smoke detector. He said nothing to the strange woman, but nevertheless she moved out of his way. He stepped onto the chair and promptly pulled the battery from the alarm. Blessed silence reigned. He closed his eyes with relief.

“Thank you,” she said, draping the towel over her shoulder. “I am so sorry about this. Who are you?”

He didn’t look directly at her but recognized her immediately. “You’re Alaina Pierce.”

“I know who I am. Who are you?” There was a guarded, tentative look in her eyes. He universally sucked at decoding emotional expression, but that was one he knew. Probably because he’d seen it in the mirror so much when he’d been younger.

He jumped down off the wooden chair and returned it to the table. “I’m Evan Archer. Are you staying here?”

“Yes. Sean didn’t tell you?”

“Nope.” Evan hadn’t seen his brother-in-law today, but that wasn’t unusual. He and Evan’s sister Tori lived in a condo in Ribbon Ridge proper, while Evan lived fifteen minutes outside the center of town with their parents in the house they’d all grown up in. “Should he have?”

“Maybe not. My being here is a secret.”

Then it made perfect sense that he hadn’t told Evan. He was terrible at keeping secrets. “I suck at secrets.” And knowing when to keep his mouth shut.

“I see. Well, do you think you could keep me a secret?”

Maybe. If he didn’t make the mistake of blurting it out without thinking. “I guess.”

“Hey,” she said with more volume than she’d used before. “Would you mind looking at me so I can see if you’re telling the truth?”

He forced himself to look straight at her. She was beautiful. But not in the glamorous movie star way he’d expected. She wore very little makeup, not that she needed any at all. The color of her skin reminded him of rich buttermilk, and her hazel eyes carried a beguiling sparkle. They were very expressive and probably her defining feature. Along with that marquee smile he had yet to see.

“Do you have a superpower that allows you to detect lies?”

Her mouth inched up into an almost-smile. “Yes, I do. It’s a side effect of being ridiculously famous.”

“Good to know. I was only moderately famous, so that’s a skill I don’t possess.” He was also fairly lousy at lying. How could he recognize it in someone else? He looked away from her, settling his gaze on the still-smoky kitchen. “I’ll do my best not to expose your secret.”

What a very enjoyable read – do go back and read the earlier books in the series if you haven't already, as the background to the family is well worth reading and they are also good reads.

It must have been a real challenge to write Evan's story and do him justice, but Ms. Burke has done an excellent job. Told from his and Alaina's points of view, we get to understand how he thinks and how that affects her. It is very effective, as we slip into their mindsets and get deep into the story. I was utterly enchanted by their courtship and how difficulties were addressed and overcome. The attraction is undisputed, but how either of them could change their lives...much more difficult. It made the story intense, as well as still being so delicious, and spicy hot too!

I really enjoyed this episode, and will be looking out for the next in the series for sure. Thank you Ms. Burke.

Darcy Burke is the USA Today bestselling author of hot, action-packed historical and sexy, emotional contemporary romance. Darcy wrote her first book at age 11, a happily-ever-after about a swan addicted to magic and the female swan who loved him, with exceedingly poor illustrations.

A native Oregonian, Darcy lives on the edge of wine country with her guitar-strumming husband, their two hilarious kids-who each seem to have inherited the writing gene in some form-and two Bengal cats. In her "spare" time Darcy is a serial volunteer enrolled in a 12-step program where one learns to say "no," but she keeps having to start over. Her happy places are Disneyland and Labor Day weekend at the Gorge.

When Love Happens by Darcy Burke Blog Tour

In a town as small as Ribbon Ridge and with a family as large as the Archers, even the best kept secrets don’t stay buried for long...

Tori Archer is married…well, on paper anyway. She hasn’t actually seen her husband since the disastrous morning after their impulsive Vegas wedding. The memories of their intense passion may still make her weak in the knees, but Tori knows their marriage was a mistake.

After six months filming abroad, television producer Sean Hennessy wants nothing more than to track down his sexy, captivating wife and get her into bed… fast. So when his boss sends him to Oregon to persuade the famous Archer sextuplets-the former stars of a reality TV show-to do a reunion special, Sean sees the perfect chance to win Tori back.

Only, Tori wants nothing to do with him and is determined to push him away. But their attraction is as hot as ever and Sean will do anything to prove their relationship was more than just a fling…because he knows that when real love happens, it changes everything.

“I’m not dogging him. I’m just not interested, okay?”

Kyle set his hands on his hips. “We don’t get it.” His use of ‘we’ signified an informal Archer family committee. The kind that organized on a whim to solve another family member’s ‘problem’ that wasn’t really a problem at all. “He’s smart, good looking, wicked successful. And you have tons of stuff in common. He even runs marathons for Christ’s sake.”

Tori sipped her beer and tuned her attention to the crowd so she could stop looking at Kyle’s well-meaning face. She’d carved out a nice little pity party for herself over the past seven months and she wasn’t ready to call it quits. And why was that? Because then she’d have to face the music. She suppressed a tremor of unease. “I’ll go ahead and order Save the Date cards. Will you leave me alone now?”

Kyle blew out a breath and threw his hands up. “Fine. You’re weirding us all out, you know. Even Mom and Dad are worried about you.”

Mom and Dad had taken Alex’s death even harder than Tori had, which was to be expected of course. Their marriage had suffered, but after spending a few months with their youngest brother Hayden in France, Mom had returned for Derek’s wedding and things between she and Dad had seemed to improve.

“Did they talk to you about me?” she asked softly, dreading the answer. Worst case scenario, they’d had a family meeting.

“Individually. They still aren’t quite simpatico.” He tossed her a look tinged with sorrow. They all wanted their parents to get back to their happy place, but none of them were sure it was even possible. “They know you’re still struggling with Alex’s suicide.”

“Aren’t we all?”

His lips curved down. “Don’t be obnoxious. You’re having a tough time so don’t bother hiding it.” Yes she was, but it wasn’t Alex’s death alone. Not that any of them knew that.

“Do I need to worry about an intervention?” Then she’d have to come clean about her secret. Or would she? If she could get this divorce going maybe they’d never have to know about her Giant Failure. Monday she’d get right on that. But first she had to find out when Sean was due back in the States.

Kyle chuckled. “Not quite yet.” He sobered. “Listen, if you really aren’t into Cade, I’ll drop it. Maggie’s already told me to lay off—that you’ll get back to your old self in time. Or find your new self. Whatever.” He shook his head. His girlfriend was a former therapist and had become a close friend to Tori over the last few months. If she could tell anyone the truth, it would probably be Maggie.

Ruthie☆☆☆☆
This is the fourth story based in Ribbon Ridge. The stories do follow on, but you could read this as a standalone and enjoy it – but why miss out on the other stories. They do give some background to other siblings in the Archer family.

It is a really moving read – and I found it very difficult to stop reading once I had started. The story flows from the side of both the leads, Sean and Tori. The level of misunderstanding is frustrating but understandable for the reader – which is a fine balance to maintain. I really enjoyed the level of detail about the family, and their brewery business, as well as the reality TV production information. That Sean and Tori clearly have a connection that they struggle to understand makes for some moving and also funny moments.

I am looking forward to seeing who gets their story told next!
