Playing to Win by Lisa B. Kamps

Jason Emory has one motto: play hard, love hard… and win at all costs. It doesn't matter if he's on the ice or playing the field, his only goal is to win. For a life goal, it sounds pretty good. So why does he feel like he's drifting aimlessly instead of having the world at his feet? At least, that's what it feels like until one hot night with a beautiful stranger who seems oddly familiar—a stranger he can't forget.

Megan Bradley loves working at her parents' bar. Why shouldn't she, when that gives her a chance to see her long-time crush up close and personal? Not that Jason knows who she is. Why would he, when she's nothing more than a modern day ugly duckling swimming in a sea of glittering swans? At least, until her best friend hatches a plan for an extreme makeover.

All she wants is one night to never forget—but sometimes getting what you want isn't what you need. Can she walk away from the connection that should have never happened? And what happens when it's time to face the truth—especially when she realizes that one sexy hockey player will stop at nothing when it comes to winning?

This was a sweet story. Megan is working at her parents' bar – she loves working there. She has friends and gets yummy eye candy on a regular basis because of the hockey guys that frequent their bar. She has had a crush on Jason for as long as he started coming into the bar. But, she knows that despite waiting on them, he never sees her. He looks right past her and to the model-type women who throw themselves at him.

Jason is a hockey player. However, he is also incredibly unobservant. He plays, hangs out with his friends, and that's about it. Even though he never is hurting for female company, he doesn't really see the women he's with. His friends are somewhat worried about him, but they keep their worries to themselves until it becomes an issue.

What follows is a game of seduction, love, and hurt. This was more about a story of two people learning what's important to them and going for it. The characters have a great chemistry and despite the loyalty that Jason's fellow teammates have to him, there are also some great guys who have loyalties to Megan as well.

Playing for Keeps by Lisa B. Kamps Blog Tour

Tyler Bowie is the serious and focused goalie for the York Bombers. He has his mind on the game and his eye on the future. And he always plays by the rules--until he meets Jennifer Emory, his teammate's sister. What is it about the troubled woman that tempts him to break the biggest rule of all?

Jennifer Emory is looking to start a new life and finds the distraction she needs in Tyler Bowie, her brother's intensely sexy teammate. But the distraction quickly turns to something else. She knows all about the bro code, but there's just something about Tyler that makes her want to take a chance and risk so much more than her brother's ire.

Will the couple find the strength and courage to put it all on the line when love means playing for keeps?

But God, she hated it. Hated running away. Hated having to rely on her brother. Hated feeling like a burden.

Hated knowing that no matter where she went, one tiny little mistake could follow her forever.

She sighed and drew her knees up to her chest. It didn't matter how gorgeous Tyler Bowie was, or how much she was attracted to him, or even if she had a tiny little crush on him. She couldn't allow anything to happen. Not that he was interested but still… no, nothing would happen. He was a hockey player. He was her brother's teammate.

No—no matter how hot Tyler was, it was strictly a case of look but don't touch. She didn't think he was like her ex but she couldn't be sure because she didn't know him that well. And she couldn't trust her own judgement, not anymore. Not after what her ex had done.

Except it had been ten long months and Tyler was so gorgeous. Would it really hurt, just to sample a small taste?

And oh God, what was she thinking? No, absolutely not. She could not think like that, couldn't even afford to pretend to think like that. No matter how much—

She heard the muffled sound of footsteps against the thick carpeting and turned on the sofa, her eyes widening at the sight of Tyler shuffling up the short hall toward her. His thick hair was tousled, his lids half-lowered over dark, sleepy eyes. He paused and ran a hand over his broad chest, which caused the hem of the thin t-shirt to lift. Her mouth dried as she caught a glimpse of smooth skin pulled tight over the hard muscle of defined abs.

Smooth skin broken only by a thin line of dark hair that disappeared into the waistband of the loose gym shorts riding low on his lean hips.

Jenny blinked, her face heating as her gaze travelled down his sturdy legs, taking in the long muscles of strong thighs, lightly dusted with dark hair. Even his bare feet were sexy. Since when did she ever notice a man's feet? Since never, that's when.

She tore her gaze away, forcing herself to look anywhere else. At the generic prints scattered on the wall behind him. At the small dinette table with its two chairs and pile of mail sitting on top of a dark green placemat. At the television, its screen now dark because she had turned it off.

Anywhere except at Tyler.

Oh God, she was in so much trouble.

Look but don't touch? No, she couldn't even do that, not when the simple act of just looking made her want to do so much more.

I have read book one, but somehow missed book two... so on to book three. I never felt that I was missing anything.

Jennifer is the sister of hockey player, Jason. While she has a type – hot hockey players – she has also been badly hurt by the very last one. So hurt that she fled and went to live with her brother. She loves what she did, but knows that starting over is going to be hard.

Jason is a surly, stubborn, pig-headed hockey player who has some terrible communication skills. He loves his sister, but has a difficult time showing it.

Then you have Tyler. He is Jason's teammate. When he and Jennifer end up in a secret relationship, Tyler needs to decide whether or not making his teammate mad is worth keeping Jenny.

Games happen, communication between teammates is terrible, and Jenny and Tyler see how far they can go in this new, budding relationship.

This was a fairly predictable story with a happily ever after. I do hope that we get to see or hear what happens with Haley.

Playing the Game by Lisa B. Kamps Blog Tour

Harland Day knows what it's like to be on rock bottom: he was there once before, years ago when his mother walked out and left him behind. But he learned how to play the game and survived, crawling his way up with the help of a friend-turned-lover. This time is different: he has nobody to blame but himself for his trip to the bottom. His mouth, his attitude, his crappy play that landed him back in the minors instead of playing pro hockey with the Baltimore Banners. And this time, he doesn't have anyone to help him out, not when his own selfishness killed the most important relationship he ever had.

Courtney Williams' life isn't glamorous or full of fame and fortune but she doesn't need those things to be happy. She of all people knows there are more important things in life. And, for the most part, she's been able to forget what could have been--until Harland gets reassigned to the York Bombers and shows back up in town, full of attitude designed to hide the man underneath. But the arrogant hockey player can't hide from her, the one person who knows him better than anyone else. They had been friends. They had been lovers. And then they had been torn apart by misunderstanding and betrayal.

But some ties are hard to break. Can they look past what had been and move forward to what could be? Or will the sins of the past haunt them even now, all these years later?

Triggers: Abandonment, horrible parents

Harlan is struggling. He has a past that most people would shudder at. While I can understand his reasons for looking backwards, for trying to find answers, I thought that it was kind of a slow storyline. While he is an amazing hockey player, he's hit a rut and can't really explain to anyone why that is. The only thing that seems to keep him grounded is remembering Courtney, the girl he fell for hard when they were just in middle school.

Courtney has made something of herself. She is working hard to better her situation. She has loved Harlan for as long as she can remember. She has a mom who supports her unconditionally and a secret that Harlan must never know. However, when Courtney's future is threatened by Harlan, she steps up and allows him back in to her life, if only to test him.

Noah is adorable. I loved how he was able to bridge the gap between Courtney and Harlan. I also love that Harlan stood up for Courtney, no questions, when his father acted ridiculous. (Not that Harlan really had a leg to stand on for that one...) Despite Noah's disability, Harlan shows Courtney that he's here to stay, even though Courtney has her reservations, she allows the bonds to form.

I love how this second chance romance develops. I think that Harlan really had to work for his relationship – it wasn't an easy given. Courtney made him work for every connection and I think that it helped make the story more believable. I can't wait to see where this series goes.
