I find Lainey in the living room—standing on a ladder, with those long, toned legs peeking out from itty bitty cotton black shorts and a power drill in her hand, while Bruce Springsteen sings “I’m Goin’ Down” from a speaker in the corner.

And, dear God—the things I could do to her on that ladder.

Wonderful, filthy things that instantly make my heart pound and my cock throb. She’s the perfect height for me to just walk over there and put my mouth between her legs. I picture it, see it in my mind—the way she’d grip my hair and pant my name, arch her back and writhe against my face...

But then I catch sight of the small bump of her stomach, and reality smacks me in the head. I think about the baby—and how making Lainey lose her mind three feet off the ground wouldn’t be the safest option. My protective instinct overrides the desire to get freaky on the ladder.

“Hey, Dean.” She sets the drill on the ledge and picks up a beeping light green rectangle, running it along the wall.

“What are you doing up there?” I ask.

I don’t have a decorative bone in my body, but the room looks good—with light gray walls and navy corduroy covered couches, reclaimed wood tables and a dozen different-sized candles filling the white-washed brick fireplace. It’s clean and simple but warm, the kind of place you’d look forward to coming back to every day.

“I’m going to hang up those boards.” Lainey gestures to three square planks, with ornamental arrows burned black into the wood. “I just want to make sure this stud-finder works.”

“If you’re looking for a stud,” I wink, “I’m standing right in front of you.”

“Ha-ha. I’ll keep that in mind.”

She turns back to the wall, reaching up over her head and stretching onto her tippy toes on the narrow step. I move under the ladder to catch her if she goes ass over end, and a stab of terror slices through me at the thought that Lainey would still be doing this if I wasn’t here. Alone. Without Jason even in the room in case something went terribly wrong.

What the hell is up with that?

“I read that you’re not supposed to reach above your head when you’re pregnant.”

“That’s just an old wives’ tale.”

I wrap my hands around her hips, holding her steady.

“Maybe the old wives knew what they were talking about. Come on, come down.”

Slowly, Lainey lowers her arms and turns in my hands. I lift her off the ladder by her hips, tilting my head back and holding her above me for a moment, before sliding her slowly down. And the feel of her softness rubbing against me, the friction—it’s fantastic.

When her feet are on the ground, I dip my head and our faces are just millimeters apart. Close enough to count the sprinkle of cute, light freckles that dust the bridge of her nose.

“That’s better,” I say softly, taking the stud-finder out of her hands. “I’ll do it.”

“Okay.” Lainey’s tongue peeks out, wetting her bottom lip. “Thanks.”

Like I said... fucking killing me.

Dean is a self-admitted man slut and it's not something he's ashamed of. All through high school, he had several girlfriends. However, he also had a difficult time being faithful in those relationships. When he meets Lainey, he is all in for their night of fun. It's what she leaves behind that he wasn't expecting.

Dean and Lainey have to learn to navigate their own lives and integrate just like any other couple. However, for them, they also have to take Lainey's first born into consideration, because Dean loves teaching him and doesn't want to stop. But with a checkered past like Dean's, he sees now that karma is coming back to bite him a bit.

I really enjoyed this story. It's about fighting for what you want, atoning for your past, and learning to love someone with your whole heart. Dean realizes that Lainey is it for him, but now it's up to him to convince her and her son that he has changed. It's a sweet, short story that will tug at your emotions and leave you feeling fulfilled.

Royally Yours is a series prequel of sorts as the events take place prior to book one, yet I strongly recommend reading it as book four, as the author released it, because I think it will mean so much more to readers who have already met Queen Lenora and watched her endure the antics of her grandsons in the first two books of the series. I know I appreciated seeing how Princess Lenora grew up to become Queen Lenora far more than I suspect I would have had I read this book first.

As much as I love reading Chase’s stories when told from the male point of view, I was so excited to get Lenora’s story from her point of view. I have admired Queen Lenora of Wesco since the first book in the Royally series, but getting to watch her grow up, enduring loss after loss, and seeing how her childhood and early adulthood shaped her into the woman who would become queen was fascinating. The dichotomy between the seemingly cold monarch readers first met in Royally Screwed and the aloof yet nerdy teen in Royally Yours was… humanizing, for lack of a better word. Add to that the deathbed vigils that had me sobbing for Princess Lenora’s losses and I was the red-eyed, stuffy-nosed mess Chase tends to reduce me to when I read one of her novels. And the obstacles she had to overcome! Oy vey! Even though she ascended to the throne in the 1950s, I was still shocked by the level of misogyny Lenora faced when she became queen. Despite being raised by her father, the king, to lead Wesco as queen when the time came, the men ruling Parliament practically refused to take her seriously unless she married. Immediately. As if that weren’t ridiculous enough, when she finally caved and married, they still refused to take her seriously for a reason even more absurd than those given for why she had to get married – something I’ll leave up to you to discover on your own. All I can say is that the old men of Parliament were lucky Queen Lenora was far more level-headed than they believed her to be because what she did to insure their cooperation was deliciously karmic; especially as I would have preferred her to take a page from the Queen of Heart’s book and cried “Off with their heads!” What’s the fun of being a monarch if you can’t have a beheading or two?

While for me, the focus on Lenora growing into her role as Queen Lenora was utterly fascinating, Chase insures that Royally Yours is more than just a coming of age tale by showing readers how Lenora became enamored with her future husband when he was just a myth of man found within the pages of the brothers’ letters and eventually fell in love with the man himself when Edward stormed into her life. Edward secured his place within her heart by treating her as a woman instead of a queen, by showing her what it meant to love and be loved for who she was, and by giving her a safe place to shed the duties of the monarchy and just be Lenny. Watching Lenora and Edward fall in love was beautiful, especially considering the sad event that led to their engagement. And yet Edward was everything Lenora needed in a partner and vice versa. Of course, I was delighted that Chase included a few chapters from Edward’s point of view because it not only gives the reader insight into who he was, but it’s classic Chase writing and made the story even richer. Suffice it to say, I absolutely adored Royally Yours and am so very happy I got to read Lenora’s story.

Lenora (Lenny) is the queen. She was born a queen and will always be seen as one. But she also yearns to have some freedom – to not feel so lonely. Thomas is her salvation. They have fun together. Thomas doesn't care that she's the queen, only that she's happy. When Lenora has to decide and choose to do what Parliament wants, she chooses to follow, all while forging her own path. She is feisty, tenacious, loving, and kind. But when her father told her to reign, she took that to heart.

Edward had a wandering heart. He went looking for something and never quite found it. When he returns at the request of his brother, he finds what he's been missing. He is intrigued by the queen and knows that they could be good together. But when he sees that duty is sucking the life from his Lenny, he knows that he has to give her balance.

This was more of a historical romance than what I was expecting. While I enjoyed the story, I didn't really feel the connection between the two main characters. I thought Lenny and Thomas had more of a connection. Overall, while it was a good, quick read, I liked the two previous books much more.

I was super stoked to cue Getting Schooled up on my Kindle Fire this morning because I'm a huge Emma Chase fan. That I was able to listen to it as part of the Romance Package was a much appreciated bonus as M/F romances don't always work well for me on audio. But because I'm impatient and wasn't willing to wait for it to be released as an ebook, cue it up I did. And I thoroughly enjoyed Getting Schooled, both the storyline and narrative performances by Andi Arndt and Zachary Webber.

This was a great second chance romance because Garrett and Callie's separation wasn't due to a miscommunication or a fight or them growing apart, but rather due to geography and educational and career goals that took them in different directions – literally. We do learn, much later in the book, that there was a major unresolved issue between them, but it wasn't what led to their split. Watching the two reconnect and fall in love again (though, I'm not sure if it's again when I don't think they ever stopped loving each other), seeing Callie find her way as a teacher, and witnessing them navigate a present together while not knowing if it would lead to a future together was emotional and entertaining. And then to have it all play out in a high school setting, even though the main characters are teachers and not students, was perfect! Oh, how the cliques abound, even after high school.

Emma Chase usually reduces me to tears by making me laugh so hard I cannot breathe. While there were certainly some laugh out loud moments in Garrett and Callie's romance, they weren't responsible for my tears. There is a scene in the book that had me literally sobbing (I'm deep breathing right now to hold back the tears, just thinking about that scene). I won't tell you what happened – and hopefully no one else will ruin it either because if I have to deal with puffy and itchy eyes, you should too – but make sure you have a tissue on hand, just to be safe. The scene might not hit you as hard as it did me, but some of you will likely entertain the notion to stop listening for a bit – do if you need to because it's a heartbreaking scene, but make sure you finish the book because you won't want to miss what the rest of the story has in store for Garrett and Callie. No, Chase made sure to heal the hurt she inflicts with that scene.

This is a first for me from both Andi Arndt and Zachary Webber. I've seen many romance audiobook lovers sing their praises, but as I listen primarily to M/M romances, I hadn't listened to either narrator before today. Both Arndt and Webber were fabulous, and I'll be sure to check out more of their work because they took the words of an author I love and brought them to life in a way that made it a pleasure to listen to. I was thoroughly entertained by their performances.

And I am beyond excited to learn that Getting Schooled is the first book in a series! I'm so glad I listened to the interview with Emma Chase because there was nothing on Goodreads or Audible to suggest that there would be more books to come. I'm already looking forward to Dean's story!

But then the mood shifts, as if the air becomes thicker, weighted, more... sultry.

Because slowly, Logan sinks down to one knee in front of me—looking in my eyes the whole time. In this position, I could touch his shoulders, comb my fingers through his thick, dark hair. He’s the perfect height for me to bend down and kiss his mouth—the perfect height for him to kiss me back... in a lot of places.

My breath hitches. And I wonder he feels it too.

There’s a sound of tearing Velcro, and Logan takes something off his ankle—a holster, with a small silver knife, about three inches long.

I take the knife from him, testing the surprisingly solid, heavy weight of it in my hand. I press my index finger to the tip.

Logan grabs my wrist tightly. “Careful. It’s sharp.”

There’s a small, painless nick, a tiny bead of blood, so I put my finger in my mouth, sucking.

And Logan’s watching me again.

Watching my mouth.

His chest seems to rise just a little faster, and his throat ripples when he swallows. He bends his head, curves his strong back, and then I feel his hands on my ankle, securing the strap. His touch is warm and self-assured. It’s the way he always moves—confident and experienced. Logan knows his body and he knows how to use it, in every way possible.

I almost moan. The sound is in the back of my throat, but I keep it trapped. I never knew the ankle was an erogenous zone, but it sure as hell is now. A hot pulse of pleasure streaks from Logan’s fingers on my bare skin, up my thigh, between my legs.

And I throb there, growing swollen and heavy as he keeps his hands on me.

Oddly enough, I’m going to quote myself to start off my review. It’s a post I made to Facebook when I was 60% into the book. “You want to know how I can tell a book is good and an author is good at their craft? When I'm reading a scene, bawling right along with a character, feeling devastated at the news they just received, yet I know it's not what it looks like and the person they fear is dead, isn't. Well done, Emma Chase, well done.” Obviously, Chase has once again written a book that has the power to render me into a sobbing mess, but as expected, she also provided plenty of laugh out loud moments and heartwarming scenes along the way, making Royally Endowed a thoroughly enjoyable way to spend a Saturday.

Being the third book in the series, Royally Endowed shifts the focus from the immediate members of the royal family – after all, both of the princes have found their princesses – to an extended member of the royal family, Ellie, the younger sister of Olivia. With the manner in which Chase has written the book, you could read this installment as a standalone because its beginning coincides with many of the events from the first book in the series, Royally Screwed, while Olivia was in Wessco and Ellie still in the U.S. However, I would recommend starting with book one because your reading experience will be richer for it as you’ll know most of the major players in the story and understand the events that have shaped not only Ellie and Logan, but the rest of the royal family – who play significant roles in their story.

Giving the author her due, Chase does a wonderful job in how she moves Ellie and Logan’s story along by jumping forward in time to show us the important moments in their lives, while still telling their story in a linear fashion – well, after she hooks you with the prologue, that is. The time jumps may be a few days to a few months, but it’s done in such a way that I didn’t feel cheated as a reader by missing out on their courtship, nor did I feel burdened down with unnecessary and mundane details. I got to enjoy Ellie and Logan’s journey as Ellie became a royal by marriage and Logan tried to ignore his feelings so that he didn’t have to choose between love and duty. Equally impressive is that the author is able to weave major events from Nicholas and Olivia’s marriage and Henry and Sarah’s relationship into Royally Endowed, giving series fans a chance to catch up with the previous couples, yet doing it in a way that it did not overshadow Ellie and Logan’s romance. I absolutely loved watching the princess’s sister and the East Amboy bodyguard fall in love and make a go of it, bumpy ride and all. And I can only hope that Tommy’s love troubles revealed in the epilogue are a set up for another book in the Royally series – or a spin-off for the men of S&S Securities (hint, hint).

This is a sweet story. It spans several years and I would recommend reading the previous books before this one, because there are several characters who are seen in the previous stories.

Ellie is a sweet kid who has a crush on her bodyguard, Logan. Like any young girl, she takes notice and then, after a while, thinks that she will find her fairytale ending. While she has her crush, she is able to make sure that she finishes her schooling and achieve her goals.

Logan ensures that Ellie is protected, cared for, and that nobody messes with her. At first, he knows that she has a crush on him – he knows that his job depends on him being able to keep himself in check. He watches Ellie grow and mature in to a beautiful woman and his resolve falters.

There is a lot of love, a family who not only sticks together but stands up for one another, and a grandma who is less than likeable. I think this has been my favorite story thus far and I hope that Tommy gets his own story, as he was such a sweet character in Ellie's tale.

Love does conquer and sometimes, it brings you places you never thought to imagine.

Despite loving Royally Screwed and giving it five stars, I did register a complaint about it – that I wanted to experience at least some of the events that took place between the final chapter and the Epilogue. In the second book in the Royally series, Chase again employs a significant passage in time between the final chapter and the Epilogue – three years this time around. Unlike Royally Screwed, I’m glad that the author didn’t share scenes of Henry and Sarah’s time apart or the letters they wrote each other because I don’t think I could have handled any more tears. As it is, this modern day fairytale in which “a pitiful lad met a shy, lovely lass and together they became something more… something strong and beautiful and forever” made me shed enough tears that I’m glad I opted to spend my Saturday morning curled up with this heartwarming book instead of what I was supposed to do.

With his brother’s abdication of the throne in book one, Henry finds himself in a position he never expected – the Crown Prince of Wessco and heir to the throne. That he seems to be constantly disappointing his grandmother, the Queen of Wessco, makes his new role in life that much worse. After all, going from the life of an aristocratic playboy to that of a king-in-training is a huge shift, which he makes worse by agreeing to appear on a reality TV show designed to help him find his queen, literally. While the premise of the book is amusing and certainly delivers on the laughs, Chase is one of those authors who has mastered my emotional rollercoaster, thus guaranteeing me not only a bellyache from laughing, but also a book hangover from crying, a sore face from smiling like a loon, and a happy heart full of love. She certainly pulled out some big guns when it comes to Henry and Sarah’s pasts and their fears. Henry’s fears about becoming the king and the big secret from Sarah’s past both surprised the heck out of me; I wasn’t expecting either of them. I think what I loved most about Sarah’s secret was Henry’s reaction. Yes, his trip to the war room was a beautiful mix of swoonworthy and comical, but it was how it ramped up his need to protect her and see her protected – even to the detriment of their relationship – that really got to me. That Chase was able to take the “She makes me want to be a better man” theme and write Henry in such a way that it was believable… KUDOS!!!

I’ve made no secret that I am a huge fan of Chase’s writing in my reviews and Royally Matched is a perfect example of why. Henry is a prince, but as the youngest son he was never expected to ascend to his country’s throne. He wasn’t groomed to be king as his brother, Nicholas, was. So despite being raised in the same environment, by the same people, Henry is not his brother and isn’t written as a carbon copy of Nicholas. Henry is his own person and is trying hard to balance who he is with who he needs to become, yet when he comes to understand exactly why Nicholas abdicated the throne for Olivia it is an extremely poignant moment. This is what I appreciate about the author’s characters, they’re individuals in their own right, even when they could be written as caricatures, stereotypes, or carbon copies of previous characters. Chase makes her characters “real” and does this effectively through their inner musings and their actions, especially when the two must conflict because of their careers or their positions in life. I found Royally Matched to be an extremely enjoyable read, perhaps even more so than Royally Screwed, and another excellent addition to my must-read-again list. I cannot wait for Royally Endowed.

This is Henry's book and I absolutely loved it. I think that we got to see a different side of Henry than the previous book. He was still immature at times, but you got to see him develop, grow, and mature throughout. I loved his character and how he was able to be himself – no facade in this one.

Then you have the shy girl. I loved her as well. Trying to do the right thing by going with her sister, but all the while really trying to get out of doing a presentation for work. Sarah is kind, gentle, but not a pushover, which I liked. You learn about her sad past, how she is able to take care of work, but how her family's unconditional love and acceptance of her condition is just the tipping point for why I loved her sister and mom. Her sister was a hilarious character and I do hope she gets a story for herself.

I did wish some bodily harm on the producer – she should have had a miserable end... I hated her from the beginning and even more so towards the end.

This book was more about overcoming obstacles, fighting the odds and winning. This was sweet, cute, heroic and I just fell in love with these two characters.
