Shelter for Sharla by Deanndra Hall Spotlight

Welcome to La Tana del Lupo. It’s a deadly place to be.

The college student who shot and killed a Kentucky State Trooper on the side of the highway committed “suicide by cop,” and the bullet that ended her life came from Trigg County Sheriff Carter Melton’s gun. He wants some answers, and so does her beautiful, grief-stricken aunt, Sharla Barker. On top of being insistent that the Tamara Kent she knew would never kill an officer, Sharla’s also insistently pursuing Carter, and he’s definitely not playing hard to get. His battered, aching heart needs the forgiveness she offers him and the passion she ignites in him.

The medical examiner’s weird findings, an odd tattoo, and an even stranger on-campus rally prior to the shooting begin to point in a direction that Carter could never have imagined. Before he knows it, he’s working with San Antonio FBI Agent Cruz Livingston to uncover a threat never before seen in far western Kentucky. It’s a criminal element with only one thing on their minds—money—and they’re determined to find it. It’ll take multiple agencies and some help from a very unlikely source to bring the case to a close before someone dies in “The Den of the Wolf.”

Built on an actual crime that took place in western Kentucky in 2015, Shelter for Sharla is an over-18, panty-melting tale of undying love, suspense, crime, and dedication as officers from Kentucky and Texas work together to save Carter, the woman he craves, and the two kids she loves, while bringing those truly responsible to justice.

He sat for a minute, wondering if he should ask the twenty-million-dollar question, and decided the time was right. After all, she’d brought it up. “So I have to ask… Could you live that way? Knowing every time someone you loved left the house, they could be stabbed or shot?”

Her voice was soft and a tear rolled down her cheek. “After what’s happened with Tam, I think I could live through just about anything.”

“Doesn’t matter. This is different. It’s the constant threat. Long nights. Long days. Weekends. Holidays. Not everyone would want to deal with all that. You need to think about that. You need to be sure before this goes any farther.”

A sound came from her throat, a tiny choking sound, as she reached for his hand and clutched it. Another tear rolled down her cheek, but her eyes were clear. “I’m sure. Carter, I’m falling for you, and if you don’t feel the same way, you need to tell me. Please. I’ve had so much heartache and disappointment in my life. I don’t need more.”

It wasn’t how he’d pictured it, but with the air moving across the surface of the water and the light fading, Carter had one simple, shining moment, and he had to make it count. “Honestly, I think I fell in love with you the first second I saw you.”

There wasn’t a chance to say another word. Sharla stepped up to him and kissed him, her arms locking around his neck almost as though he were saving her from drowning. Clutching her to him, Carter could feel it all around them, the magic of love newly found, of broken hearts mending and tired ones starting over. When she broke the kiss, she gave him a smile that he’d remember on his deathbed. “I love you, Carter. No man has ever done to me what you do or given me as much of himself as you have. I know it’s fast, but I don’t care. If you disappeared from my life tomorrow, nothing would ever be the same.”

He chucked her under the chin and whispered to her, “I’m not going anywhere, little girl. I’m here to stay. It’s a shame that it took a tragedy for us to find each other, but we have, and I won’t apologize for that, not now, not ever.” The kiss he gave her was sweet and warm, and his tongue teased the seam of her lips until she parted them slightly. When he deepened it, she opened to him as her tongue explored his. They stood like that for a time they’d never have again, the first kiss of confessed love, and Carter hoped that kiss would go on forever. He’d given up, and just when he’d thought it was hopeless, he’d found her, the woman he’d always wanted. As the kiss cooled, they both leaned in, their foreheads touching, and he heard her sigh. “Sharla, we’re going to get through this. I promise. And we’re going to come out the other side and have a good life.”

“You sound so sure of that.”

“I am. Come on. Let’s go home.” Taking her hand, he led her back up the hill, walking together in silence until they reached the truck. Once he’d helped her in, he patted her hands as they lay in her lap. “The kids will be home tomorrow night because of the funeral on Wednesday. Want to come to my house tonight?”

The nod she gave him was almost childlike. “I’d like that.”

“Okay. Let’s stop somewhere and pick up something we can have for breakfast. You’ll have to get up early tomorrow to get to work.”

“Doesn’t matter as long as I get to be there with you tonight.” Her fingers stroked down his cheek and he felt that little quickening in his chest, the one that told him it was really happening. A woman was giving him her heart. He couldn’t break it, bruise it, or drop it. He’d be the man who kept it safe. He had to be.

One Simple Mistake by Deanndra Hall Blog Tour

He already knew, but he's about to be reminded: Your whole world can change forever in a split second.

A man with a broken heart.

Doug Benton's heart was broken when he misread the cues of a purely sexual threesome. But when he meets Vivian, the sister of his employer's daughter-in-law, he wonders if she's as hungry for a real relationship as he is. There's just one problem: He's a Dominant. And Vivian is possibly the most vanilla woman he's ever met. That knowledge leaves him wondering if they could ever have anything that would last.

A woman scorned.

Vivian Norton has been dumped one too many times - the last time, at the altar. To make matters worse, she's fallen in love with the one man she most certainly shouldn't have. When she meets Doug at a Walters family gathering, her first thought of the good looking security agent is simply, What a heartbreaker! As Vivian gets to know Doug, she begins to wonder if they could have something more than just a fling and, even though she's scared, his calm strength gives her security and hope.

As time passes, it becomes more and more obvious to the strong, passionate young man and the sweet, innocent, curvy redhead that they want a relationship that'll stand the test of time. Everything falls into place, and they discover that each is exactly what the other needs.

But all it takes is one simple mistake to ruin everything.

And when Doug makes that mistake, there's no going back. He doesn't mean to. He tries to fix it, to take it back, to make it all right, but Vivian is having none of that. And when he finally forces her hand, he learns a painful lesson.

There's no coming back from some mistakes.

In this first volume of the Citadel, the first spinoff series of the popular Love Under Construction series, revisit the world of the Walters family in Louisville, Kentucky, and two characters you knew but wanted to know better. It's a story of love, loss, and what happens when "I'm sorry" just may not be enough. Is there hope?

In Deanndra Hall's stories? There's always hope.

WARNING: This book contains graphic sexual content and detailed injuries and medical situations. It is not considered suitable for those under the age of 18 years. Reader discretion advised.

“Do you . . .” She stopped and Doug waited until he couldn’t wait anymore.

“What, baby? Spit it out.”

“Do you . . . think I’m a slut? I mean, I let you do anything you want to me, and I never make you stop. I take it because I love you and I want to feel sexy and desirable when I’m with you, but do I disgust you?” She cast her eyes downward and watched her finger cut through the dark blond hair on his chest.

“Viv?” When she didn’t respond, Doug put a finger under her chin and tipped her face up. “Viv, yes, I think you’re a slut – my slut. You’re a slut for me. That’s as it should be. Your body should be available for my use, but mine should be for yours too. That’s why I always ask you what you want. I’ll do whatever it takes to satisfy you, and I love the fact that you feel comfortable enough with me to just let go and do anything and everything. There shouldn’t be any shame between us.”

Her blue eyes searched his. No, he wasn’t making fun of her, she could tell. He meant every word. “You like me being slutty?”

Doug snorted. “Yeah, for me! But not for anyone else. I want you all to myself. The fact that you want it with me just tells me that we’ve really got something here, something that will let us be honest and open with the other person. Do you feel that way?”

“Yeah, I really do.” She stopped for a few seconds. “If you wanted to take me out into the middle of a field, strip me naked, and fuck me right there on the bare ground for an hour, I wouldn’t be embarrassed.”

He laughed and shrugged. “I don’t know why I’d ever want to do that, but okay then! Just know that I ask you to do the things most people would consider slutty because I want you to explore and learn, to grow sexually and know what you want and what you want to give to me. Yeah, you can be a slut, but you’re my slut. And I love that about you.”

This is a spin off from the Love Under Construction series. I highly recommend you read that entire series first, not only because it is such a good series but because you will have a lot of back story to help you follow along with this one. Doug is lonely, he doesn’t know how lonely until he sees Vivian at a Walter’s family gathering. Vivian sees Doug and thinks there is no way he would ever be interested in her, she thinks she is fat and worthless, plus he is a Dominant and she is as plain as vanilla ice cream. Doug and Viv start off slow, they have both been hurt before and they both have up walls. After a while, things are finally going great, they have both gotten past their issues, they have confessed their feelings to each other and they are blissfully happy. That is until one slip of the tongue stops everything. Changes everything.

Characters: The characters were well written and believable. My only issue was sometimes the dialogue between Viv and Doug seemed childish. I know Viv has issues with self-esteem and is very naïve but at times the dialogue actually made her seem like she was a little slow.

Deanndra Hall has some sort of magical ability that when she puts words on paper they are infused with the emotion she puts behind them. One Simple Mistake is a story about two people who long for a family and just when it’s within their grasp, they do something to muck it up.

Doug and Vivian both have had a run of bad luck when it comes to love. Seeing what they can't have makes them hold on to the dream even harder. When they give each other a chance for happiness, will their doubts, fears and insecurities pull them apart?

This book runs the gamut of emotions from blissfully happy to heartwrenching grief, from despair to contentment.

I can't wait to read the next book in the Citadel series.

I was really sad when the Love Under Construction series ended but I'm so glad that there's a spin off series. All these books have an element of Dom/sub relationships that are just wonderful. The author writes like a free spirit, meaning she can cast any character into a role and make it work. One Simple Mistake was Doug and Vivian’s go. My head is spinning after reading this book and I just don't think I can do it justice without spoiling it for anyone. Just when you think the story goes downhill.....hold on. This author never does anything half-@ss. Overall entertainment is five stars! Love it.

Ruthie☆☆☆☆
What a joy to be back with the Love Under Construction family. I was in familiar and comfortable territory within pages. These characters are not ones that could be easily forgotten, so even though it's been a while, it draws you in as if it were just yesterday. That said, you could read this and enjoy it as a new series. But then, go back and read them all.

As to that mistake ... brilliant idea around which to base a lovely story. It just came and smacked you in the face and wow! Obviously I can't say more, but read it and see what I mean. Add to that the camaraderie shown by the men to Doug, and the love and affection that is given to Viv, and this makes for a good story.

For as long as I can remember, I've been a writer . . .
and it has served me well. I wrote for local publications, wrote marketing and advertising materials, wrote for academic publications, and eventually grew jaded with the writing profession as I often watched others take credit for my hard work. I retreated into the world of 3-D art in the fiber and textile mediums and hid out in a world of colors and textures. But, truth is, there was always a story or two in my head. It wasn't until Nikki and I met in my imagination that I decided it was time to let those stories out, and I'm glad I did. My readers now get to enjoy the fruits of my imagination and, believe me, it runs wild!

On the personal side, I've been happily married to my lover and best friend for over thirty years, and I have two wonderful adult kids who've blessed me with two excellent choices of life partners. When I'm not writing, I'm playing with my three crazy little dogs, hiking in a local recreation area, kayaking, working out at the gym, tending my herbs, cooking, or doing some kind of research.

But I'd really rather be writing!

Me, You, and Us Series by Deanndra Hall Blog Tour

Adventurous Me

Boring. Tiresome. Predictable. That’s how Trish’s husband of almost 30 years described her when he told her he was leaving. Trish sets out to drink her blues away when she literally stumbles onto a man who offers her the adventure of a lifetime. Trish has no idea what she’s walking into when she visits Bliss, the local BDSM club, but under Dave’s tutelage, she takes to the new lifestyle readily.

And when she’s paired for two weeks with Clint, the one Dom in the place who can’t seem to stand her, sparks fly. He keeps her so confused that Trish isn’t sure what’s going on. She’s sure of one thing, however: She’s falling for the handsome, tortured soul, and she’s hoping he’s falling for her.

But when a simple mistake puts her in harm’s way at his hands, Trish has to decide: Is it an adventure worth dying for? And when everything falls apart, can she manage to forgive him? More importantly, can he forgive himself and bury the ghosts that have been haunting him for too long?

Adventurous Me is a fun, sexy, sweet, explicit, romantic romp that’ll leave you breathless and hopeful. And it’s definitely not for the under-18 crowd.

I have read other books by Deanndra Hall and this one was just as amazing! Adventurous Me is about Trish and the end of her almost 30 year marriage. At almost 50 years old, Trish finds out her husband finds her boring, tiresome and predictable. A night out on the town with her friends changes her life. Dave introduces Trish to his club Bliss and pairs her off with Clint. Trish is finally on an adventure of a lifetime with Clint and what an adventure it is! In pure Deanndra Hall style, the sex was HOT and you could feel the connection between the characters. I loved this book and I can’t wait to see what happens in the next installment of the series!

I loved it. BDSM tastefully done and a scorching love story. I love chemistry between characters and this couple just made you feel the heat. Trish's husband leave her because apparently they have grown apart. I won't say she's boring, because she is anything but. She meets a man in a bar who invites her to a club called Bliss and that's exactly what she finds.....bliss. Amazing job at introducing Trish to the lifestyle, and the unique scenarios. I enjoyed this book immensely and loved the storyline. Clint showed her a sexy dominant side, and he was also messed up and broken. Great book, and great ending. Best entertainment ever....five stars.

I have always enjoyed Ms. Hall's writing and this was no exception. I'm not sure I really liked the story all the way through, in fact there were bits that made me mad... but that was probably the point. I also laughed on occasion and even had a fair few tears too. So once again an emotional journey from this talented author.

I'm lucky enough to have the next in the series ready to go on my Kindle!

Unforgettable You

For Sheila, a lie is a deal-breaker. But what if it’s not a lie? What if it’s just not the whole truth?

Being a popular Dom at the nicest BDSM club in town would be the top of the mountain for lots of guys, but for Steffen Cothran, it’s meant heartache. He lost someone he thought he might be able to have a future with to his best friend when Trish Stinson and Clint Winstead patched things up. He knows he wants a relationship, but so far he’s had trouble finding that one person, the one he knows he's meant to be with, to make that happen.

That all changes when Trish and Clint walk into the club with Trish’s best friend, Sheila Brewster. Even though he's met her, he never really had much contact with her. But Clint has a plan: He’s looking for a Dom to protect Sheila in case her abusive ex-boyfriend manages to get paroled. And Clint happens to think that Steffen is a great candidate for that position.

Steffen and Sheila’s relationship starts casually and quickly grows into a promising romance. But one question makes all the difference, and when Steffen doesn’t lie but doesn’t tell the whole truth with his answer, Sheila’s left wondering if she can ever trust anyone again. And when Steffen’s little omission shows up on his doorstep in full-blown chaos, the relationship he’d had such high hopes for is shattered, possibly forever.

In the aftermath, Sheila sets a course for self-destruction that turns out to be more dangerous than anyone could’ve imagined. With no one to blame but himself, Steffen finds it hard to help a woman who won’t have anything to do with him.

Two broken hearts. One huge mistake. A few really bad choices. And a lifetime of pain if things can’t be righted. It may be impossible to mend the broken trust, and their love could be lost forever.

The second in the Me, You, and Us series following Adventurous Me, Steffen’s story in Unforgettable You is funny, smart, sweet, kinky hot, and heartbreaking. It’s a tale of what happens when you forget that there’s not a lot of difference between a lie and a partial truth, and what love really means when two people belong together.

WARNING: This book contains explicit sexual situations in graphic detail. Not intended for readers under the age of 18. Reader discretion advised.

Once again Deanndra Hall has blown me away. This is not the first book I have read by her, nor will it be the last. Ms. Hall has a way of writing that makes you feel like you are in the story and living the story right along with the characters. You feel like the characters are your family and friends and when something happens to them you feel it too. I laughed; I cried, felt pure heartbreak and totally loved while reading this book. The connection between Steffen and Sheila is off the charts, their story and journey is well worth the read. Readers also get to revisit past characters from the first book, Trish, Clint and Dave who are all wonderful. I can’t wait for the next book to see what happens next.

I'm thrilled every time I open a book from this author because to date she has failed to disappoint me. I feel sucked into the plot as if I'm watching it unfold with my own eyes.....yes.... It's that good. The characters have such intense and great chemistry that I'm agonized over any drama they have to go through. With this book Steffen has heart break over losing Trish to Clint, you can just imagine how hard it is to find a good submissive. Then Sheila comes along and ramps it up by wanting to play. This is book two in the series, and you should read the first to get the best entertainment value out of the series. Overall entertainment for me was five star! Loved it.

I loved this book. Having met Steffen in Adventurous Me, it was wonderful to get his story. That the chemistry he desired was with Sheila was hinted at in the first book, but the drama and the angst that followed in this book, was totally unexpected. But I have learned to trust Ms. Hall and believe that things will work out in the end.... And thankfully she did not let me down!

Can't wait for the third in the series.

While there are a few things in this book that are not my cup of tea, I still enjoyed the ending of this series. M/M interaction has never been a strong suit for me unless there is a girl, this book has several scenes just m/m. Tears wet my eyes as the final ending unfolded, and I was beyond moved. I would definitely read more by this author, and overall enjoyment was five stars. I loved this family and the characters were very easy to know. I'm glad Molly got a book, she deserved every minute of it.

Ruthie☆☆☆☆☆
Sob, sob – what an emotional last book, in what has been a wonderful series. I am definitely adding them to my reread pile – probably curled up by the fire this Christmas. So much going on that a marathon will bring forgotten elements together.

I loved this final story – ever since the dramatic ending of Renovating a Heart, I have been on tenterhooks wanting to know what happened ... and Ms. Hall keeps her cards very close to her chest ... tissue moments aplenty for me! A number of loose ends get neatly tied up, in the most unexpected ways and we get to hear news of the whole extended family.

I would imagine that most readers will have started the series really not liking Molly, but by now she has redeemed herself in the main – and clearly in Ms. Hall's view – as she gets quite the most exciting opportunities for love in this book. It is difficult to say more without spoilers, but she is a lucky lady! The main plot is hot, frightening and enlightening. In all the drama, the value of family, loyalty and love always take centre stage.

Thank you for a wonderful series, and I look forward to the next one!

Angie☆☆☆☆
I love this series; it is one of the best written series ever! I was so excited to read this book. I think I was so excited that I felt let down when I read it. There was so much going on in this book that it just seemed like too much at times, I think some things got pushed to the side and could have been expanded on and possibly even another book. I loved the whole dynamic between Peyton, Jose and Molly, that story was amazing and I feel like it was just tied up too fast to deal with Nikki’s illness. I loved how Peyton and Jose dealt with their situation. Nikki’s illness was horrible, everyone felt like they were dying and even as a reader reading it you felt the same way. Don’t get me wrong, I really liked the book, it was just a lot going on and I think some characters got lost in the shuffle of all the story lines. I can’t wait to read the next series and I hope we get to see some of our beloved characters again.
