His Holiday Crush by Cari Z. Now Available.

Workaholic attorney Max Robertson is one meeting away from making partner at a big NYC firm when his best friend calls and guilts him into coming back home for Christmas. But there’s a reason he hasn’t been back to Edgewood for a decade—too many bad memories. The plan was to go for just one night, until a wild deer and a snow bank wrecked everything.

Former Army Sergeant Dominic “Nicky” Bell is the new guy on the Edgewood police force, so of course he drew the short straw and is stuck working the night shift. But his evening gets turned upside-down when he gets called out to a wreck in the snow—and it’s his one and only high school crush, looking even sexier than he did back then.

When they both end up stranded together at Dominic’s house, sparks start to fly and Max isn’t sure what to do. But everyone deserves a present this holiday season, right?

This is a sweet family Christmas romance with a little bit of angst and personal growth. The story is basic. Successful city boy Max takes an enforced break in his hometown and takes time to evaluate his life – while enjoying the company of a sexy deputy.

This book manages to hit a whole stream of my romance weaknesses. I love the self-discovery Max experiences as he visits his hometown for the first time in far too long. I love a good small town deputy and I have a soft spot for single dads, home restorations, and cute dogs. Hell, I didn’t even mind the small children in this book. Add some snow and the only thing that keeps this story from turning into saccharine schmaltz is the well-crafted characters and their complicated histories.

I always enjoy Cari Z’s writing style and I tend to love the author’s characters. Max and Nicky are fabulous leading men, and this is a satisfying Christmas read.

Shannan☆☆☆☆
Max Robertson hasn't been back to Edgewood, his hometown, in years. His father made a name for himself (not in a good way) and left Max the center of unwanted attention. He's living in New York City working his butt off to become partner. When his best friend Hal's young daughter calls and begs him to come for Christmas, Max can't say no. Hal's wife walked away from Hal and their daughters, and left Hal to raise his daughters alone. Max feels the guilt of not being there when they needed him the most, so he promises he'll be there for Christmas.

Dominic has always had a crush on his brother's best friend, Max, but he never expected to have to save him when Max slides off the road into a snowbank. Max doesn't recognize Dominic at first and feels an attraction to the hot police officer that saved him from freezing.

I enjoyed build up in this one. The relationship between Max and Dominic is easy and relatable. Hal was a great secondary character. Max is able to bring calm to Dominic's chaotic mind and Dominic is able to slow Max down, they really are what the other needs. His Holiday Crush is the perfect, quick, holiday read!

Handle with Care by Cari Z.

A fragile heart needs extra care.

Burned-out social worker Aaron McCoy is on vacation for the first time in years—boss’s orders. Road-tripping to his brother’s wedding with his best friend, Tyler, seems a fun way to spend the mandatory two-week leave, and they set out for Kansas—and a difficult homecoming.

Aaron’s mother was a drug addict, and his adorable younger brother was quickly adopted, while Aaron spent his childhood in foster care. As Aaron mends fences, Tyler hopes to show him that this time, he won’t be left behind to face his problems alone.

Aaron’s opening up to how right it feels to be with Tyler and to the possibility of taking the leap from friends to lovers. But along with the wedding celebration comes a painful reminder of the past. Aaron’s heart is still breakable. Can he put it in Tyler’s hands?

Sarah☆☆☆
This is the hard-hitting story of a burned-out social worker who is forced to make peace with his own difficult childhood at his brother’s wedding.

I have to admit that this is a romance where I really didn’t connect with either of the partners. There is so much going on in this story that I don’t feel like I ever fully knew Aaron or Tyler. I had a whole lot of empathy for Aaron’s childhood experiences, but I’m not sure he ever came alive as a character I could have an emotional connection to. As the story is told from Aaron’s perspective, Tyler remained even more of a mystery. I was also puzzled by the lack of romance in the book. Somehow the book manages to be both a friends-to-lovers story and an insta-love romance. I still feel a little bit short changed on the romance front.

I’m possibly being a little bit too negative. There are some great scenes in the story, especially lighter moments between Aaron and his brother’s family. I loved Aaron’s sister-in-law and the stag night was so awful it was actually funny.

I’m not sure this is a great fit for the Dreamspun Desires books. I expect the Dreamspun Desires books to be pretty light and fluffy with lots of nods to classic Harlequin Romance tropes. Instead, this is a book about the aftermath of substance abuse, child abuse, and families separated by the care system. The main characters experience pretty vile homophobic abuse. And there is little in the way of romance – traditional or otherwise. This is a low-heat read like other Dreamspun Desires books but I wouldn’t consider it a light romance.

I’m usually a fan of Cari Z’s work but unfortunately, this book didn’t really work for me.

Romantic Behavior by L.A. Witt & Cari Z.

Detective Andreas Ruffner is no fool—he’s found a man who loves him, puts up with him, and has stuck with him through hell and back, and it’s time to put a ring on it. Darren Corliss is the love of his life, and he wants the whole world to know it.

Now the fun part — the wedding!

Well, after the not-so-fun part of planning the wedding in between dealing with overbearing and impossible-to-please family members. With future mothers-in-law driving them both up a wall, the guest list growing out of control, and the wedding getting ever more complicated, Darren and Andreas have to wonder if they’re in over their heads.

But they’re going to make it to the altar if it kills them... and at this rate, it just might.

It was so good to spend some time with Andreas and Darren without them or someone they love being in grave danger, and with them both relatively injury free. They might be free of life-ending danger but there is still plenty of stress because they are planning their wedding. I enjoyed the wedding prep dramas because I remember what it was like, so I could relate to what the guys were going through.

This is such a romantic little novella. The type of romantic that had me crying happy tears. I assume this novella is our “and they lived happily ever after” but if the authors choose to write more adventures for Andreas and Darren, I’ll happily read them.

Sarah☆☆☆
So, this is not what I was expecting from my two favourite badass cops. Where the first three books gave us complicated investigations, corrupt cops, and terrifying shootouts, this little novella gives us wedding planning.

I love this series and it has become an auto request for me – so I’ll admit that I only glanced at the title before requesting it. In hindsight, I probably should have skipped it. I’m not really a hearts and flowers romance reader and this gets pretty sappy. High on domestic bliss, even Andreas loses his attitude and starts planning colours and guest lists.

There isn’t even a police investigation for distraction here. And very little heat. Darren and Andreas get so busy with wedding planning that they can’t find time for sex.

Readers who wanted more romance from these two will be happy. There are some funny scenes and some charming moments. Andreas’ mother is a delightful villain and his ex-wife has some brilliant lines.

Personally, I love the grit, the action, and the snark in these books and a story exclusively about wedding preparations really didn’t do it for me.

Reckless Behavior by L.A. Witt & Cari Z.

After too many years of putting his job first, Detective Andreas Ruffner is getting his priorities straight. He’s ready to spend some quality time with his adult kids, not to mention come clean about some things he should’ve told them a long time ago. And introduce them to his partner and boyfriend, Darren Corliss.

But in a heartbeat, a family dinner turns into Andreas’s worst nightmare. When the dust settles, one of his kids is hurt, and the other three have been abducted.

Andreas is going to find his kids, and nothing, not even a broken ankle, is going to stop him. Thank God for his sharp, level-headed partner... who has a crisis of his own pulling him away when Andreas needs him the most. As both men try to support—and lean on—each other, they get no closer to finding the kids. And the longer the children are missing, the less likely it is they’ll ever be found.

Veronica☆☆☆☆
Each book in this series follows the relationship and partnership of Andreas and Darren, so they must be read in order.

The guys have plenty on their plate. Andreas is recovering from surgery to repair is broken ankle and Darren is coming to terms with his brother's failing health as he is put into a nursing home. On top of that, they are having dinner with Andreas' children so that they can meet Darren, and Andreas can come clean about his own health. So, when three of Andreas' four children are kidnapped, it is almost more than our pair can handle.

This story is heart pumping action pretty much from start to finish. There is no time to think, you just get swept up in the events and emotion of the story. The investigation to find the missing children moves quickly but has plenty of enquiries that lead to dead ends, and it puts Andreas and Darren though hell.

I was on the edge of my seat reading Reckless Behavior and I devoured it in one day. It is another great story in the Bad Behavior series and I look forward to seeing where life takes Andreas and Darren next.

Sarah☆☆☆☆☆
I love this series and it just keeps getting better! The action starts at the beginning of this third book and it never stops. Both Darren and Andreas’ families are in crisis and they can’t rely on any of their police colleagues for assistance.

I really enjoyed the fast-paced intensity of this story. If the first two books established Darren and Andreas’ relationship, this one shows them working as true partners as they attempt to find Andreas’ kids and keep both families together. Once again, the investigation into the kidnapping is a complicated and exciting puzzle. In the previous books, we’d heard about Darren’s family, but this time his kids and his ex-wives are very real and the relationships are almost as complicated as the kidnapping.

I don’t think this will work as a standalone. There isn’t much recap from the first two books and readers need to understand the police politics and Andreas and Darren’s personal lives before reading this one. But this is a series I’ve loved from the start. I can’t wait for the next one.

Suspicious Behavior by L.A. Witt & Cari Z.

Detective Darren Corliss is hanging by a thread. In between recovering from a near-fatal wound and returning to work at a hostile precinct, he’s struggling to help care for his ailing brother. His partner and boyfriend, Detective Andreas Ruffner, wants to help, but doesn’t know how. And with his own family crises brewing, Andreas is spread almost as thin as Darren.

For cops, though, life takes a backseat to the job. When a stack of unsolved homicides drops into their laps, Andreas and Darren think they’re unrelated cold cases. But when a connection surfaces, they find themselves on the tail of a prolific serial killer who’s about to strike again.

Except they’ve got nothing. No leads. No suspects. Just a pile of circumstantial evidence and a whole lot of hunches. Time is running out to stop the next murder—and to pull themselves back from their breaking points.

The second book in this series is an exciting and often emotive read. After their first investigation together revealed systemic police corruption – and with colleagues still losing their jobs as a direct consequence – Detectives Corliss and Ruffner don’t have many friends left in the police department. When they are assigned to investigate cold cases at another precinct, they manage to make themselves even less popular.

This book works for me on every level. The hunt for an active and prolific serial killer is alternately terrifying and exciting. The police politics are frustrating. And Andreas and Darren’s personal lives just keep getting messier. Like all great detective stories, the investigation is intricate and fast paced. As with all great detective series, we are very slowly drawn further into the characters’ lives with each book. The police corruption storyline didn’t finish with the first book and I’m pretty sure it will extend into the next book.

I still love the partnership between Andreas and Darren. The older, jaded detective lends his experience and insight while the younger, politically connected newbie offers a fresh perspective. But things feel a little bit more equal between them this time around.

Romantically, these two feel solid in this second book and I love how they are becoming true partners as much in their personal lives as they are in their professional lives.

I am loving this series and I can’t wait for the next one!

Veronica☆☆☆☆☆
After bringing down the Mayor and a bunch of corrupt cops, Andreas and Darren are now pariahs in the police force. They take a bunch of unsolved murders from another precinct and discover they have a serial killer on their hands. And so begins the hunt for the murderer.

I love a book where the crime solving is mixed with romance and this book does it brilliantly. In between hunting for a serial killer and dealing with family dramas on both sides, Darren and Andreas struggle to find time for themselves and their relationship. With so much going on, the story moves at a fast pace and there was never a dull moment. I was completely sucked in to the story, action, and romance that it was over before I knew it. But there is still so much to learn about Andreas and Darren and so many more crimes out in the big wide world I'm hoping the authors have many more books planned for our detectives because I want more. I absolutely loved Suspicious Behavior.

Off the Beaten Path by Cari Z.

When Ward Johannsen’s little girl Ava shifted into a werewolf, she was taken into custody by the feds and shipped off to the nearest pack, all ties between father and daughter severed. Ward burned every bridge he had discovering her location, and then almost froze to death in the Colorado mountains tracking her new pack down. And that’s just the beginning of his struggle.

Henry Dormer is an alpha werewolf and an elite black ops soldier who failed his last mission. He returns home, hoping for some time to recuperate and help settle the pack’s newest member, a little pup named Ava who can’t shift back to her human form. Instead he meets Ward, who refuses to leave his daughter without a fight. The two men are as different as night and day, but their respect for each other strikes a spark of mutual interest that quickly grows into a flame. They might find something special together—love, passion, and even a family—if they can survive trigger-happy pack guardians, violent werewolf politics, and meddling government agencies that are just as likely to get their alpha soldiers killed as bring them home safely.

Oh wow! I really love this story. I’ve needed a new UF series to get excited about for way too long and this one has just about everything I love in a shifter story. The world building (genetic experimentation and hints of government and military conspiracies) is complex enough to support a series and the characters are equally complex. I loved the Colorado setting and the politics and hierarchy in Henry’s pack.

When Ward’s daughter shifts for the first time as a young child, she is taken from him in California and given to a werewolf pack in Colorado. Ward risks his own life to follow his daughter, hoping the pack will allow him access. I loved Ward’s humanity in this story. He is determined – terrified but also somehow fearless. His relationship with Henry is sweet and I love the way he strengthens the alpha werewolf.

As pack alpha, Henry’s responsibilities weigh heavily and his compulsory military service is draining his strength and his humanity. Henry’s relationship with Ward both softens and empowers him. I love his leadership and his gentle way with the pack children.

Ward and Henry’s relationship is sweet and pretty low heat. This is as much about family and pack as it is about the two men themselves. The relationships and politics between family and pack are complicated and the threat from the outside world casts a shadow over the almost utopian community.

Cari Z. is a relatively new writer for me. I’ve enjoyed her Bad Behaviour books with L.A. Witt but this one is really something special and I’m definitely going to be reading through her other books and looking out for any new releases. There’s a hint at the end that this might just be the start to a promising new UF series and I’m already eagerly anticipating Tennyson and Davis’ book.

Cari Z. is a Colorado girl who loves snow and sunshine. She has a wonderful relationship with her husband, a complex relationship with the characters in her head and a sadomasochistic relationship with her exercise routine. She hopes that you enjoy reading what she's put out there as much as she enjoyed writing it in the first place.

Risky Behavior by L.A. Witt & Cari Z.

It’s day one of Darren Corliss’s career as a detective, and not only has he been assigned a notoriously difficult partner, but the guy might also be a pill-popping dirty cop. Internal Affairs needs proof, and Darren gets to be their eyes and ears whether he wants to or not.

Detective Andreas Ruffner doesn’t play by the rules, and he doesn’t play well with others. With bodies piling up and a list of suspects who are way above his pay grade, the last thing he needs is a wet-behind-the-ears kid for a partner. Or babysitter. Not even if that partner is easy on the eyes.

As Darren gains Andreas’s hard-won trust, they both realize there’s more than just mutual suspicion simmering beneath the surface. But their investigation is heating up as quickly as their relationship, and Darren has no choice but to go along with Andreas’s unorthodox—and borderline unethical—methods. As IA puts the squeeze on Darren to give up the man he’s falling for, he has to wonder—is Andreas the only cop left in this town who isn’t dirty?

What a fantastic detective story! I am currently completely hooked on the BBC’s Line of Duty right now and this story of corrupt cops and Internal Affairs investigations offers the same thrills as we watch powerful characters abuse their power for personal gain. I loved the moral ambiguity that shadows each of the characters as Darren and Andreas’ investigations are thwarted and the attacks become personal.

The pairing of these two detectives is brilliant. Andreas is an experienced cop and a miserable, jaded loner with complicated secrets. We know from the first scene that he’s not exactly squeaky clean, but we don’t fully know the extent of his guilt or innocence until the very end. In contrast, Darren is an ambitious young detective whose stepdad happens to be the retired chief of police. And he is tasked with supervising Andreas for Internal Affairs. Even as they reluctantly agree to work together, it takes a long time for trust to build between these two.

The pacing of this story works really well. The investigation is slow. Hints and clues are as likely to be misleading as they are to be helpful and as a reader, I found it difficult to trust anyone in this book. I loved the slow untangling of fact from misconception and I loved the tangled webs of corruption that are revealed by the investigation.

This is very different to anything else I’ve read by either of these authors and I really loved it.

Veronica☆☆☆☆
Brand new detective Darren is partnered with experienced but unpopular detective Andreas, who is suspected of being dirty cop and a drug addict.

Darren has IA pressuring him to provide dirt on Andreas, but Darren just wants to do his job and be a good partner. Andreas doesn't always follow the rules and we see this fairly early on as Darren has to decide quick smart if he is going to cover for his partner or hang him out to dry.

Andreas made me nervous. His rule breaking worried me. I didn't trust him and I kept expecting him to push things too far and it had me on edge. But there are other things ramping up the tension. Their investigation into drug trafficking in the city implicates police, judges, and the mayor, and people connected to the case are turning up dead. There is also plenty of sexual tension, which adds and extra dimension to the partnership.

Risky Behavior is cop drama heavy with a good amount of love story woven through. The action and tension are perfectly paced and there were times it felt like my heart was racing a mile a minute. Risky Behavior is a great crime solving/romance novel and I look forward to reading more of this series and spending more time with Darren and Andreas.

Angie☆☆☆
This book missed the mark for me. Way too wordy, too much build up, and then the case was wrapped up too fast. I wanted more Darren and Andreas and there wasn't enough of that. There was so much hush hush about what was wrong with Andreas and then when it came out what it was, nothing else was really said about it. No action happened between the main characters until after the 50% mark and by that time, I just wanted the book to end.
