This is a mind-bending bit of erotica from a new-to-me author. Every so often I like to push my boundaries and sign up for something outside of my comfort zone. Even so, I definitely wasn’t ready for alien shape shifters with giant stone cocks. I can enjoy sci-fi and I can enjoy erotica. But this pushed boundaries I didn’t even know I had.

With only the tiniest nod to a plot, the story is a string of dark sexual fantasies. And honestly, none of them were my fantasies. The scenes with the giant stone cocks had me wincing in sympathetic pain. The dub-con/non-con scenes made me cross and had me thinking way too hard. Even the female sex slave sacrifice tradition didn’t work for me.

Everyone is different and I’m sure there is a niche audience who will really respond to this book. Personally, I need a little more plot, a whole lot more dialogue, reasonably sized cocks, and clear consent between sexual partners. Guess I’m a bit of a prude.

I need to preface this review by stating I'm not sure what the spirit of the novel was meant to be – you'll understand what I mean by that as I continue onward with the review.

I struggled from the first page, unsure what to expect. The cover and the use of 'dark' had me thinking it would be darker themes. As I read, it was so over-the-top forced, I viewed it as satire. That is what my comment above was about.

Mila tries too hard to sound like a badass from the get-go. She's on a rescue mission for her sister. The world-building is spit out at the reader with little to no explanation, but I just rolled with it and wasn't too confused, because the world-building obviously isn't the point. Definitely science fiction in nature, which I enjoy.

The entire plot consists of two points: rescue the sister for Mila, a successful sacrifice for Zarblu. The plot was merely a device to propel Mila into unconventional, semi dubious consent sexual situations. I'm all for darker themes, when it comes to unconventional and dub-con, but this was so over the top it was comical.

As I said, I'm not sure what the vibe was supposed to be, so I feel badly stating this. I wasn't titillated or aroused by the content. So far out of the realm of believability, I found entertainment via humor.

Recommended to fans of the author, science-fiction erotica where unrealistic sex overpowers all plot. Obviously, I was not the intended audience.

This is the first book in a new series – I will definitely be looking out for the next one to see how it could top this one for super crazy. I don't read a lot of sci-fi paranormal shifter books, but every so often the blurb just drags me in and I love the depths of crazy to which an author can take us. This certainly did that, but I did not see any of the dark that it suggested, rather I found it sweetly entertaining.

For me, Mila worked perfectly as a character because of the creature living in her. Her ability to disassociate from the peril was thanks to a strong realisation that she did not have much to lose. As any reader will find out, her fate is pretty scary, so some final dastardly deeds hardly seem an issue. It does make her sister's behaviour pretty unkind, but Mila does get the very best type of revenge – inspired in fact!

Lord Zarblu is a massive contradiction, but Mila gets to the heart of his issues... fear. And he finds that she may just have cured him by the end (I sort of hope that we get to see how in future installments). The sex scenes were, for me, not terribly erotic, as they involved the potential of far too much pain, and not in a good way!

At the core of this book is a rather cute romance, which was utterly unexpected, but rather fun.

Wicked Ways was a rather interesting read for me. I don’t typically enjoy books that rely more on introspection than dialogue to tell the story. In fact, the last book I read that use inner monologues more than dialogue between characters left me feeling quite bored. However, considering that the villains in the Dark Hearts series are mesmers – men who are able to control certain women’s actions with their thoughts – the heavy use of inner monologues is almost necessary because Zorie had no control over what she did or said when Reuben or Mister Black exercised their influence over her. When she was able to resist, it was only for brief moments. So in order for the reader to know what Zorie was facing, much of the story was told from within her mind as she struggled against the commands given to her, the feelings of helplessness and shame once she realized what she had done and that she had enjoyed it, and the fear and devastation as Reuben upped the stakes on his “game” with her.

While I would consider Wicked Ways to primarily be a paranormal romance with dark erotica elements, it’s not nearly that straightforward. Why? I’m not sure that it’s appropriate to categorize a book as a paranormal romance when the paranormal character(s) are incapable of love and not part of the actual romance – at least not in the first installment they weren’t. Actually, the paranormal characters’ actions pretty much annihilated the budding romance by destroying Zorie’s already tentative trust in men. [And I have to say, I figured out who Heller was before it was revealed. Booyah!] There is no question that the book is erotica because there is a significant amount of sex within the pages and much of what Zorie endures certainly qualifies as dark – the author does warn of this. However, how dark and how erotic the book is will depend entirely up on the reader.

Because Silverwood tells the story from both Zorie and Mister Black’s points of view, the reader learns far more about mesmers than we otherwise would have. It is from Mister Black that we discover that most mesmers let their ability to control women go to their head. The manner in which Reuben seems to take great pleasure in humiliating and degrading Zorie when he has her under his control certainly supports this; and when he reveals his ultimate plan to Zorie, well, it’s clear that Reuben has let his power corrupt him. This is where the levels of erotica and darkness come in. There are scenes that I found hot and there were scenes I couldn’t read past fast enough. Humiliation does not do it for me, it’s akin to dunking me in a bath of ice cold water. But I did read them because Silverwood provides enough detail to let the reader know what is being done to Zorie, but she does not tend to get overly graphic in the scenes. I actually appreciated this distinction because had the author decided to go hardcore dark and describe the most disturbing scenes in full detail, it would have left me feeling as though it was done simply to shock & awe the reader. I don’t appreciate shock & awe authors, and it quickly lands them on my do not read list. However, with the way the story was written, I was pointed in the direction the author wanted me to go, but she left my mind to fill in the blanks with what would scare me most were I the one in Zorie’s position. So I connected with Zorie’s feelings of hopelessness and fear rather well, too well for my liking, in fact. Yet this is what made Wicked Ways a fascinating read for me. Now I just have to find room in my packed review schedule for Wicked Weapon to find out what the future holds for Zorie.

I absolutely LOVED the conclusion to the Preyfinders series!!
First of all, this entire series was well written – the characters were developed and likeable. The aliens were HAWT, the humans were sweet, and the sex was sizzling!

Defiler picks up right where Intimidator left off, meaning this series needs to be read in order.
Earth is under attack – the Factory Queen has burrowed into Earth's soil and is busy creating minion soldiers (Bak-lal) to take over the planet. The Preyfinders are aware of the threat, and with the help of 4 very special human women "witches," are ready and willing to eradicate the invaders.

Talia is the last "witch" we meet, and she is seriously kick-a** with a katana – she's a warrior who doesn't need a man to defend her. Brask is the Igraak Preyfinder who is destined to "bond" with Talia, unfortunately they both "rub each other the wrong way." Not only is Brask interested in Talia, but the Ascend god – Dassenze also seems to gravitate to her – and boy oh boy are their scenes HOT!

This story was the perfect end to the series – it was full of action, adventure, and full of unexpected twists and turns.
I highly recommend this series!!

Cari Silverwood has a great talent for writing purple prose and I can't wait for the next installment of this saga.

This is the next in the series of wonderfully, and erotically silly novellas by Ms. Silverwood. The innuendo starts with the title and never really disappears. That there is a plot immersed in the humour and some of the funniest lines ever read in relation to sex is testament to the author's talent (and depravity). At times I realised that I was taking note of what was being said, as if it made sense – a worry thought indeed.

I would recommend this to anyone – and especially to those people who enjoy laughing about life. Surely that includes....you!

Woah! This series has just gotten darker and more depraved with each subsequent book, this was honestly the darkest book yet in the Pierced Hearts series. (I may have nightmares, no joke)
Book 4 picks up exactly where 3 left off, Jazmine and Pieter were collected after their botched escape. Jazmine was the product of the slavers, and Pieter was the "guard"...now they’re both at the bottom of the ladder.
Seize me From Darkness started off in a very dark place, and this wasn't typical for the series. No getting to know one another, just terrible, depraved captivity.
Pieter is used as an instrument of torture for Jazmine, and while he did as commanded, he also felt a connection and tried to lessen the severity of evilness for Jazmine. Where she was fearful of her situation, she took solace in Pieter's kindness.

I hate to admit it, but I'm not sure how I feel about Pieter – I liked him in the first half of the book, but not so much in the second. Sadism without restraint just bothered me. The lack of gentleness or compassion broke my heart.
I did like Jazmine, even with her secrets – she seemed human to me and searching for acceptance.

This book just completely f*d with my head, I didn't know what was going to happen – and I liked it. The characters were well developed and the story flowed well. The darkness was gritty, the sadistic torture was agonizing, and the erotic scenes were scorching!

The Epilogue for Precious Sacrifice is located at the beginning of this book, which is very interesting and ties the 2 stories together ;)

I have to say that I really like the Aliens that Ms. Silverwood has created in these books. They are from different worlds, they are well defined, they are emotional, and they are very intelligent beings.

While this story follows the same course as the 1st, there is much more going on in Willow & Stom's story.

The evil Bak-lal are invading various planets, causing extermination of species -and ultimately planets. The Preyfinders are attempting to stop the invasion of Earth. Oddly, though, they are "bonding" with women on a deeper level then they're aware of, and find that they really need each other in the epic battle against the enemy.

This story contains romance (general & erotic...lots of erotic), action, some angst, and a bit of suspense. It was a quick, sexy read, and I want to read more about these characters!!

Tragedy doesn't care if you are human or alien -- it wreaks havoc with everyone. Neither Stom nor Willow are looking for anything more than to just get through one day to the next.

As an "honor", Stom is sent to Earth to find a woman, a pet, to ease his soul. Little does anyone know, the pain inside him cannot be healed.

Willow, is one payday away from oblivion. Taking care of her cousin, Ally, who can't be around people for more than a few hours at time, has caused her world to shrink down to work and caring for Ally.

Looking into the eyes of Stom, Willow sees more than the hard exterior that he projects. Stom fights against the storm of emotion that flows within him, knowing that all he can offer is more pain.

Alien or not, Willow finds herself falling for Stom, but can the demons of her world and his tear them apart or bring them together?

Once again, looking forward to the next installment of the Preyfinders.

This was a well written Sci-fi erotic romance: it's short, it's sexy, and it's sweet (but not too sweet). I liked the storyline and felt like a lot of story was written in a small book (that's a good thing)!

Brittany is dealing with the loss of her boyfriend, a year ago, and trying to go through the motions of life.

Jadd is an exiled alien warrior, who is given a second chance at service by coming to Earth and proving he can be a Preyfinder.

And Brittany is the prey...and all of Earth's fate is based upon her ability to succumb to the alien’s trials. ;)

I'm sincerely looking forward to the 2nd book in this series!!
