Reclaim by Beth Yarnall

Brimming with angst and sensuality, Beth Yarnall’s Recovered Innocence series kicks into high gear as a hotheaded P.I. unleashes one lawyer’s deepest passions—and greatest temptations.

Nolan:
Nothing’s ever come easy for me, especially not my dream job at Nash Security and Investigations. Righting wrongs is what I’m meant to do...except I manage to blow the very first chance I get. So why don’t they fire me on the spot? Hell, I’d fire myself if I could. Instead, my boss hands me an assignment that’s too important to screw up—and partners me with Lila Garcia, a gorgeous attorney with curves so distracting they should be illegal.

Lila: Like my client, a grieving mother charged with the murder of her own son, I know how quickly the American dream can become a nightmare. If anybody can help me clear her name, it’s Nash Security and Investigations. But Nolan Perry is a wild card. Bending the truth, breaking the law—that’s his business. I need to focus on the evidence. Not on how Nolan’s body fits so perfectly against mine. With a case this personal—and this dangerous—losing control is simply not an option...no matter how badly I want to give in.

Reclaim is the third installment in the Recovered Innocence series. Reclaim can definitely be read as a standalone.

Reclaim wasn't my favorite in this series. Nolan and Lila are teamed up to free a mother convicted of killing her son. The romance starts off quick, no build up, no lead in. There are some good hot and steamy scenes, but it wasn't enough to carry the book. For me, this book just had a different tone than the rest of the series. I just didn't have a connection with the characters or the insta-love that happened.

This is the third in the series, and although some context would be improved by reading the previous two, it could be a standalone.

I really enjoyed the first two in the series, and they fitted well together, with strong links. Here I felt the link was more tenuous as it moves away from the previous characters and relies on the role of righting an unjust jailing. The leads are, therefore, not personally invested in the case in the same way – although Lila empathises very much with Carla, the prisoner. Whilst it was good that it was not a rehash of the same plot, it just took the focus off the case in hand when it needed to be front and centre...

Somehow the romance eclipsed the task in hand, but maybe that was the intention – given that Nolan is a self-professed screw-up, and Lila had issues. That said, it had some really good moments, and Ms. Yarnall can do hot and steamy. I just wasn't entirely convinced of the depth of the relationship.

An enjoyable read, and good to get some catch up time with the previous couples.

Best selling author, Beth Yarnall writes romantic suspense, mysteries and the occasional hilarious tweet. For a number of years, Beth made her living as a hairstylist and makeup artist and co-owned a salon. Somehow hairstylists and salons always seem to find their way into her stories. Atone by Beth Yarnall

Beth Yarnall’s sexy and emotional Recovered Innocence series continues as two broken souls discover that keeping their hands off each other is even harder than facing their demons.

Beau: Six years. That’s how long I spent behind bars for a crime I didn’t commit—the murder of the woman I loved. Now I’m free, but life on the outside is a different kind of prison. I don’t know who I am or who I want to be. At least I have my sister, Cora. She never stopped believing in me. She even got me a job at the private investigation agency that cleared my name. And then Vera Swain walks into Nash Security and Investigations and kicks my world on its ass.

Vera: There’s only one thing that would make me come out of hiding after two years on the run: finding my sister. I made the mistake of telling a monster about her, the same monster who beat me and broke me. Now I’m forced to confide in Beau Hollis of Nash Security and Investigations. He looks at me like he knows me—the real me. He sees too much, makes me feel too much. The pleasure he offers is exciting and addictive. But I can’t fall for him...because my love could get us both killed.

Atone is the second book in the Recovered Innocence series. There is enough information given in the book that I think it can be read as a standalone. You get to see Cora and Leo from Vindicate but since this is Beau's book you really aren't missing anything.

Beau was in prison for a crime he didn't commit, with his sister's help, he was released. Now he's living with her, sleeping on her couch, and working at the PI agency that helped free him. He is sort of lost. He doesn't know what to do with the second chance he was given, until Vera walks in looking to hire them to help find her sister. Beau is drawn to her. He can see the broken in her that he knows is reflected in his eyes. Without any experience and no idea how what he'll do, he agrees to help her.

The initial attraction is quick but it develops nicely throughout the read. I was invested, I had to know what happened. Atone was a good combination of all the things I enjoy in a read, romance, a dash of suspense, and a good hit to the feels. I am excited to see where Reclaim takes me.

This is the second book in the series – and you really do need to read book one first to get the whole picture – although it is possible to enjoy this on its own merits too.

Beau is finally free, thanks to his sister Cora, but he really doesn't know what comes next. As he does some work at Nash's, suddenly a walk-in new case could be just what he needs. Vera has a problem, although she is not entirely truthful about it – and as the story progresses, we understand why. These two damaged people find something special in each other and start to heal from their pasts along the way. Their love is strangely pure, and wonderful to watch grow, especially as the disturbing story of Vera's past unfolds.

This a good story of redemption, of justice being served, and a really meaningful revelation of just what love can mean between two people.

Thank you Ms. Yarnall, I am excited to see what comes up in the next book.

Vindicate by Beth Yarnall

Beth Yarnall kicks off a steamy new series—perfect for fans of Kendra Elliot and Emma Chase—featuring a San Diego investigative team with a soft spot for lost causes and a passion for redemption.

Cora: I got my driver’s license on my sixteenth birthday so I could visit my brother in prison. Five and a half years later, he’s still locked up for a murder he didn’t commit and I’m still trying to find a way to set him free. Then I hear about Nash Security and Investigation, a private detective agency that helped exonerate a wrongfully convicted man after thirty-nine years in prison. The problem? They’ve already taken on the one pro-bono case they’ll accept this year.

Leo: I’m this close to finishing law school—and never working another day at my dad’s P.I. office—when Cora Hollis walks through the door. She’s got a box of files, a handful of leads, and an independent streak a mile wide. She fascinates me and I can’t say no. Suddenly I’m volunteering to help her find a missing witness who could be the key to her brother’s case. But nothing is what it seems and giving in to the attraction between us could be more dangerous than finding the real murderer.

Cora has one last chance to clear her brother for a murder he didn't commit. She’s been trying for years on her own to prove he didn't do it, to get the conviction overturned, She’s running out of time to clear him. With no other options, she turns to a top notch PI service for help.

Leo wants out of his father's PI business. He's almost done with law school, when he finishes he's done with the business. That is, until Cora comes asking for help. Leo wants to help, needs to help her prove Beau innocence.

I loved the suspense aspect with this one. The race to prove Beau is innocent and the side of romance made for a good read.

I wasn't at all sure about this book for the first few pages, but by the end I was absolutely hooked – and am excited to see that there is another book in the series due in February!

The main plot revolves around Cora trying to get her brother released for a crime she is sure he did not commit. The story is well done and is more than just a convenient peg on which to hang a romance. That said, I loved the romance – because it was not what you would expect and in places it was so funny, that I found myself really laughing at the messes that they got themselves into. The humour is clever, thoughtful and these two – who are very, very different – are an absolute delight to watch as they fall so hard for each other, and have the most unexpected reactions. Told from both their viewpoints, the author reveals far more to us than the other can clearly imagine – fabulous for us!

Thank you Ms. Yarnall for a great read, and I can't wait for Atone to come out!
