The Relationship Pact by Adriana Locke Blog Tour

The Relationship Pact by Adriana Locke Blog Tour

How hard can it be?

That was the question rolling around Larissa Mason’s mind just before she asked Hollis Hudson to be her fake boyfriend.
It was only supposed to be for five minutes, after all.

Granted, that was also before she felt his hand on the small of her back as he charmed the heck out of her family.

And it was definitely before she saw the football god shirtless. Otherwise, she would’ve had an idea of just how hard some things could be.

It turns out that pretending to be in love with a crazily handsome, somewhat enigmatic, and absolutely unforgettable tight end (that has an amazing tight end) is easy.

Reminding herself that just because opposites attract doesn’t mean they’re forever is much harder.

What they have isn’t love—it’s a relationship pact. Right?

AUTHOR'S NOTE: The Relationship Pact is a fun and flirty college sports romance with lots of heart. No cliffhanger.

This is the third in this excellent series, each written by a different author, one of the trio of friends headlining in each book, but ties across all and a common starting place – a disastrous final football season, on the tail of a winning one, and their status from hero to near zero. As we have had their stories revealed, we have understood far better why their year tanked, but we also know that they are truly the best of friends, even in adversity. I have really enjoyed everything about these books, but this one maybe just pipped the others to the post, or cumulatively it entered five stars for me.

Hollis Hudson has been invited to Georgia to receive an award, and has been able to stay for the week. He has no ties, no family, and no one to support him when he is honoured. Both Crew and River are dealing with their own issues, and home for the Christmas holidays. We soon learn that Hollis has never come clean to them, and is used to relying only on himself. Sadly, he learned the hard way, and far too young, that it is safest to keep his distance, and has no intention of ever having a proper relationships. Then a meeting in a bar, and coming to the rescue of Larissa, who needs an instant boyfriend to keep her mum happy, leads to life changing discoveries.

This is such a lovely, heartwarming, as well as at times, a rather heartbreaking story. I loved all the side characters – Judy is fab, but so are all the people he meets through Larissa, such as Bell and Boone. There are some really funny bits, and the text exchanges and chats between Crew, River, and Hollis scream of the fellowship between them, it is lovely. These guys had such high hopes of an NFL career but have, over this series, grown up and understood that there are other priorities and options. This was possibly most difficult for Hudson, as he felt so bereft of family and unable to share that fact, even with his besties.

The growth of the friendship between him and Riss is hugely enjoyable to watch, and there is definitely some super-strong chemistry playing out between them. I loved that they both had revelations as they came to realise what they meant to each other, and what that inevitably meant in terms of changing their views and preconceptions.

A lovely finale to the series – although I would be very happy if we did get more from them. Thank you, to all three talented authors, for a set of very readable romantic tales.

This is the third and final book in this series and is Hollis and Larissa's story – and it is the best one. Hollis is the one that has the tortured soul, feels he is not worthy of love or good enough. Football is his thing but when he meets Larissa, he thinks things may be different. A chance meeting at a bar, Larissa needs a pretend boyfriend for five minutes to make her ex leave her alone. Hollis is all too happy to help.

When Hollis needs a date for dinner, he calls Larissa and she makes the dinner even better, but his past interferes with his thinking and he misses a lot of the conversation. Then Larissa needs a date for a function her stepfather is putting on, to keep her mother happy and not trying to set her up again.

With all the time they are spending together, Hollis and Larissa are getting closer and the feelings are growing. But Hollis's past keeps creeping up and making him feel he is not worthy of her love.

Will these two see their love is what keeps them strong? Can Larissa make him see that they have a chance at forever? Will Hollis see that Larissa is all he needs, along with his BFFs?

I loved the others in this series, but I have to say that this couple is my favorite; the pain, heartache, and past of Hollis is hard to comprehend, and to have Larissa come along and love him no matter what. This series is worth reading, in order, just to get to this one. Each story has its own problems and solutions, but this one is the one that will tug at your heart. So read them and I hope you love them, too.

Trouble by Adriana Locke

She wants something real. He wants something now. Together they’re trouble in USA Today bestselling author Adriana Locke’s sexy and funny twice-in-a-lifetime love story.

With his shameless grin and let’s-play swagger, carpenter Penn Etling leaves women wanting in Dogwood Lane. What do they get? Avery Perry knows: a one-night stand. She’s been there. She remembers every hot pulse as if it were yesterday. But Penn? He doesn’t remember a thing. Now he’s making new moves, and Avery’s not falling for trouble… again. Is she?

How could the beautiful stranger resist him? Avery is going to be a challenge for the bad boy. She’s the kind of woman who digs deep—deep enough to see there’s more to Penn than meets the eye. But first she has to give him a chance. She has to say yes. Could she also be the woman to make him change his playboy ways?

When these two come together, it’s hard to pull them apart. But with love and trust on the line, can Avery and Penn get what they both want? This time for keeps?

M/F Romance

Penn is the fun-loving womanizer of his group of friends. He is also a hardworking carpenter who is always willing to lend a hand or pick up a job. When he is about to take his first vacation in two years, Penn is interrupted when his boss call in a favor. Despite knowing he has earned his vacation, Penn just razzes his boss and says he’ll help out.

Avery is finding herself. She knows that where she’s come from is definitely not where she wants to be. She has fond memories of Dogwood Lane and being near her aunt, so she picks herself up and heads there. While working at her aunt’s salon, she runs in to Penn... again. He doesn’t recognize her, and she isn’t sure if she’s upset or embarrassed that she was so easy to forget.

Avery is keeping a secret from Penn and Penn is trying to woo a woman who knows all of his tricks. Can they see past the walls that they each have in order to climb over and find happiness?

This is a sweet, semi-second-chance romance that has hilarious characters and friendships that would make anyone jealous. I really enjoyed this story and hope we get to see more of them soon.

This is the third book in the series, and both the previous couples feature in the story. You could start here and go back if you want to, I don't think it would spoil too much for you. You will understand the dynamics of Dogwood Lane a little better if you are up to date.

Avery has come back to Dogwood Lane to start afresh. Her life in LA was shallow thanks to her famous parents and everyone wanting something from her because of them. She visited her aunt there as a teen, but since then has been too wrapped up in the banal – but no more! So when the beautiful Penn comes into her aunt's hairdresser's and starts to chat her up – with no memory of their first encounter several years ago – she is not interested. Not. At. All. She left LA to get away from the shallow hookup, and Penn has a reputation for exactly that.

Penn works in construction, enjoys spending his free time enjoying female company and avoiding all manner of serious. He had a really unhappy childhood; his mother suffered from addiction and his father was abusive and vindictive. So really, he has no intentions of settling down in case he is like his dad – which, yes, completely makes him a darling guy!

There are so many lovely bits in this book, little details which make you really only want the best for both of them. They definitely deserve each other, it is just them who need to understand that... and ideally at the same time. Locke makes sure that we feel the tension, cheer them along, and then smile the biggest smile when it finally all works out.

Very enjoyable read, I recommend it to you.

Tangle by Adriana Locke

Sparks fly between a die-hard romantic and a sexy cynic in this fresh, funny romance from USA Today bestselling author Adriana Locke.

That cream-filled, caramel-topped doughnut should have been hers. Still, Haley Raynor can’t deny that the pastry thief with the dreamy blue eyes looks even more delicious. But moving in on a handsome devil like Trevor Kelly is bad news for a die-hard romantic like Haley. Trevor doesn’t believe in love. She does. Giving in to a fling and Trevor’s irresistible charms can’t end well. Can it? What can it hurt to give it a shot?

Girls always fall for Trevor, and in the end, he always ends up looking like a bad-boy cad. Still, spending some time with Haley and her smart-talking, kissable mouth sounds pretty perfect. Besides, he’s only going to be in Dogwood Lane for one week. How much trouble could they possibly get into?

The only answer? A “no falling in love” contract. All Trevor and Haley have to do is follow the rules and resist the attraction sizzling between them… before their hearts get completely tangled up in temptation.

3.5 stars
M/F Romance

I mulled over this review a few days before writing it, because I wanted to make sure that I was being fair. I did read the previous book, but never thought you'd need to in order to understand what is happening in this one.

Haley is a woman who is living her life as best she can. Her good friend supplies her coffee and donuts and where we meet Haley and Trevor for the first time – well, that scene is hilarious. It got me in the mood for a light-hearted romantic story. However, once you really delve into the book, it became almost muddled by the issues that each character brought. Haley is on a dating hiatus because she seems to choose men who are not good for her. Her favorite people are her friends and family and even they can agree that she needs some guidance or growing up in that department. So, when she meets Trevor, despite his looks, she knows that he'll be trouble for her.

Trevor, for all that he is gorgeous and smart, is still somewhat of a teenager in his emotional state. He has grown up with a poor example of love and therefore, has sworn it off. He is a serial dater. His brother loves him and tries to help him along the way, but knows that if Trevor is going to change, he'll have to see what he's doing on his own.

Their courtship is fun, light, and almost a friendship start. I liked that a lot. It wasn't an insta-love connection, but rather two people who acknowledged their attraction, but tried to stay friends first.

I think my biggest point of contention was that so much of the book was taken up by Trevor's belief that love didn't exist. It became almost all he was. I think the story would have been more powerful for me if it had contained more of their relationship and not so much about their issues and how they were to work around them.

Haley has to decide whether or not she can love someone who doesn't believe in love and Trevor has to decide whether he can break his own vicious cycle.

It was a quick read that made me laugh and roll my eyes. I hope more books are to come.

This is the second book in the series, and I would recommend that you start with Tumble, where we get Dane and Neely's story. In this book we get to see more of them, as Dane's cousin and nanny, Haley, features in this story.

Haley is a romantic who has had her heart broken many times, as she always goes all in. She is currently trying to stop the trend and be super sensible – but then she meets Trevor when she fights him over a donut... and the challenge to be sensible is on. She sets down rules and all, which Trevor readily agrees to, as he has no interest in love at all. The reason why is rather sad, and sweet, but one feels he needs to get over it sometime soon!

Everyone else can see the obvious, but as Trevor is only in town temporarily and Haley is on a no-relationships break, they continue to torture themselves and each other by carrying on with their friendship. However at some point something has to give, and we are left wondering just how this can become what we want it to be.

With a community full of lovely characters, some of whom definitely deserve their own story to be told, I think Locke is developing a series which should be on your look-out-for list – it is certainly on mine.

M/F Second chance romance

Neely has come home to figure out what her next steps are. Despite having a brilliant mind and an amazing job, when she is faced with some disappointing news, she knows her only way forward is to start again. Having left her hometown and not returned for years, she knows she'll have to face some ghosts too. It still is hard for her to see her first love, Dane, but she wants to feel the peace and quiet of her hometown and she'll put up with him in order to achieve that.

Dane is a successful carpenter with his own crew. He knows that he has some huge regrets, but he also loves his life. When he sees Neely again for the first time in years, it takes him a minute to catch his breath. He knows that he made a huge mistake with her and nothing he says will ever truly make it right. But Dane also knows that he has never stopped loving her.

Neely and Dane have this slow burn chemistry that they let simmer for a while. I really enjoyed watching them learn each other again. They aired their past hurts, but at the same time, while they were able to forgive, neither will forget. Dane has to show Neely that he knows better this time around and Neely has to decide if Dane is worth the risk.

It's a small town with tons of people hoping that they will get back together. When Neely is faced with a similar decision of staying or leaving, she'll have to decide whether or not having all of her boxes checked is more important than changing what goes in those boxes.

Ruthie☆☆☆☆
This is the first book in a new series, set in a small town where everyone knows everything. Neely left 10 years ago and has avoided returning, mainly due to her ex-boyfriend, Dane, getting her best friend pregnant just as she went to college. She refuses to talk about it with her mother and has lived in denial ever since.

However, she quit her job in New York and came home for some comfort from her mum. And, of course, sees one-time love, Dane. The story unfolds slightly predictably, but with some very sweet twists and turns, and made for a very easy read.

I have to admit I looked at some of the reviews and was genuinely surprised that there was a huge backlash about Dane's behaviour ten years ago – it wasn't a stellar thing to do, but it seemed far from unforgivable for a confused 19 year old (I am guessing Katie should take some responsibility here too), and he undoubtedly has done the right thing since, against the odds. Each to their own, I guess.

For me, this was a rather sweet story, where someone was reminded that maybe the thing they were meant to be wasn't so far from home after all, and it took experience and love to make a change for the better.
