Sweet Little Lies by Jill Shalvis

Choose the one guy you can’t have...

As captain of a San Francisco Bay tour boat, Pru can handle rough seas—the hard part is life on dry land. Pru loves her new apartment and her neighbors; problem is, she’s in danger of stumbling into love with Mr. Right for Anybody But Her.

Fall for him—hard...

Pub owner Finn O’Riley is six-foot-plus of hard-working hottie who always makes time for his friends. When Pru becomes one of them, she discovers how amazing it feels to be on the receiving end of that deep green gaze. But when a freak accident involving darts (don’t ask) leads to shirtless first aid, things rush way past the friend zone. Fast.

And then tell him the truth.

Pru only wants Finn to be happy; it’s what she wishes for at the historic fountain that’s supposed to grant her heart’s desire. But wanting him for herself is a different story—because Pru’s been keeping a secret that could change everything...

Wow, what a fabulous romance! I haven't been able to get the smile off my face since I finished reading it. From trouble with darts to a mishap with a dumbwaiter, Pru and Finn have some fun times while they fall in love. They also have a great group of loyal friends. I wish I could move into their building and join their crew. They are good people who add to the merriment.

Sweet Little Lies is dual point of view which allows us to see the romance from both sides, something I always love in a book. Pru is keeping a pretty big secret from Finn, and as the reader, we find out early on what it is and have to wait to find out what will happen when the secret is revealed.

I loved both these characters. Pru has a huge heart and helps others without expecting anything in return. Finn is a hard worker who has forgotten how to have fun, and he needs Pru in his life as much as she needs him.

This is the first book I've read by Jill Shalvis and I loved it. I've already pre-ordered The Trouble with Mistletoe, Willa's story, which is due out on 27 September 2016 according to Amazon. I can't wait to spend more time with these guys and gals.

Ms. Shalvis always delivers a fresh story with a great plot, some absolutely lovely characters, and a sexy romance which satisfies. I think this is a particularly good example and, as the first in a series, also promises more great stories to come.

Men, or women who have a strong friendship group give the readers much more insight into their lives, as we benefit from seeing it in more than a single dimension. Pru has been living a lonely life, working hard to reduce her guilt levels for a perceived past sin. She has few friends, but they are loyal (and a hilariously funny pooch!) Finn has a group who will support him, and who choose to take Pru under their wing too. Watching it all unfold and the bonds being formed is fascinating.

The twists and turns make sure that we are always on the alert for the tide to turn, but loving the happiness whilst it lasts. I laughed, I definitely shed a tear or two, and I wanted these people in my life. That to me, says it is a really good book.

Thank you Ms. Shalvis, and I hope that you are busy writing Willa's story!
