Come What May by A.M. Arthur

Jonas needs Tate. He just doesn't know it yet.

Or at least, he doesn't want to admit it. Because there is no way Jonas Ashcroft is gay. He's a straight, carefree frat boy player, just like any good son of a conservative state senator. If only his struggle to convince everyone—especially himself—didn't leave him so miserable. No matter how many girls or bottles he drowns himself in, Jonas can neither escape nor accept who he is.

Enter Tate. He's smart, confident, and instantly sees right through Jonas's surly exterior. Sure, he's done things in life he's not proud of, but he knows who he is and what he wants. And what he wants is Jonas. As their easy friendship intensifies into something more, Tate introduces Jonas to a life he's never known. One filled with acceptance and sex and a love that terrifies and excites them both.

But some inner demons refuse to be shaken off so easily. When Jonas's old life barges in, he faces a shattering choice, one that could destroy everything he and Tate have fought so hard for. Sometimes love just isn't enough—and sometimes it's exactly what you need.

When I first started reading this I was kind of nervous, I really didn’t like Jonas too much. Of course, my opinion changed and I ended up loving him. Jonas is your typical spoiled rich kid, he did something wrong, on several occasions, and was finally sent to live with family to get his crap together. Tate has had a rough life, but has made the best of things and has a great attitude, and you can’t help but love him and want him to have a happy ending. These two have excellent chemistry, and once things got going I didn’t want to put the book down! I love how Jonas finally put his foot down with his family but was willing to give them a second chance because he had hope when all they did was stomp on that hope. This was a super sweet love story and I have a feeling I will be reading it again because I liked it that much.

Characters: Well written

I have to say the cover sucked me in and the story certainly kept me there. I enjoyed this book very much!

The characters were human and heartfelt. I felt their problems and empathized with them, even the side character's plights drew me in. Jonas was the rich kid snob. After being involved in a prank that goes bad at college, Jonas's distant and cold-hearted father sends him to his aunt's house to get some perspective (aka: punishment) and to do some real work for once in his life. Jonas goes to work in her thrift store. Tate owns and operates the LGBT teen shelter across the street. He comes in for the linens that Jonas's aunt launders for him and meets Jonas, who comes off as the arrogant, smart rich kid he is. Tate is an out of the closet gay boy. Meeting the "in closet and thinks he's straight" boy, who just so happens to be drop dead gorgeous, Tate swears he's not going there again. And off the story runs! Jonas finally feels like himself in this small town. Tate is knocking down his walls with his easy friendship and non-judgmental talks. Befriending Tate and living with his aunt & uncle have him finally letting his guard down. Jonas realizes he's been hiding from himself and he's exhausted. His coming of age journey was an entertaining, fast moving, sweet read for me. I loved Jonas and Tate together and found their love for one another genuine and heart melting, with lots of "awww" moments and even more hot & heated ones that left me breathless! Adding in the strife caused by Jonas's, bigoted, jerk father, you have a great read.

Shannan – ☆☆☆☆
After a fraternity hazing goes wrong, Jonas Ashcroft finds himself expelled for the year. His father's solution was to send him live with his aunt and uncle because of the trouble he's caused. His father wants him to learn to be responsible, working in Doris and Raymond's thrift shop is the perfect place to do that. Jonas has worked hard to be everything his father wants him to be. Jonas doesn't know what it is he himself wants, but he knows what he is doing right now isn't making him happy.

Tate has had a hard upbringing, both his parents died leaving him to fight for custody of both of his sisters. He and his partners open a homeless shelter for LGBT teenagers. He's proud of what he's accomplished at a young age. Anything he can do to help the kids stay safe, even if it's for one night at a time.

Tate is intrigued by Jonas. His looks are what first grab his interest, but the glimpse of the man hiding underneath that gorgeous face is what keeps him interested. He sees the confusion, the hurt and knows he needs to help him in any way he can.

Jonas and Tate are an adorable pair. They both have their own issues and horrible pasts, but being together is the safe place they both need.

I enjoyed the story between Jonas and Tate, and that we got introduced to many different characters throughout the book so it wasn't all just about the couple.

I had an issue with the book though. :( I felt that Jonas came around to being attracted to Tate far too easy. One minute he wasn't gay and then bam he's all in. I know the story progresses with his struggle, but I feel that it would have been better to see those struggles when he was one on one with Tate too.

I loved Tate though, but what’s not to love about him.

I will be looking out for more books in the series.

Ruthie – ☆☆☆☆
This author writes good books – and this is no exception. It is hard hitting about a number of issues, and as well as making me angry about certain behaviours, I also laughed, and at one point in particular, welled up. Although Jonas and Tate are without doubt the focus of this story, they have family and friends who also get more than just a mention. Where there is a need, their inclusion can make a point far better than a whole chapter between the leads, and Ms. Arthur uses them wisely. I found Jonas's number issues interesting (I am a numeracy specialist) and it played well to a number of scenes in the book. Of course, the main focus is on two men, from very different backgrounds working out what they mean to each other, and how that can be resolved. Some of their conversations were priceless, and it was impossible not to get drawn in. All in all, a good read, and I look forward to seeing where this new series goes next.

Erica – ☆☆☆
3.5 Stars.
I'm a huge fan of A.M. Arthur's writing style, and Come What May was a good addition. Arthur's books are filled with the 'feels', a depth of emotion dealing with the darker issues in life, while still maintaining a level of humor and the warm and fuzzy feel of slow-burn, realistic romance.

Jonas is the flawed character of the tale, dealing with being pushed from the only life he's ever known to move in with relatives he barely knows. Rich and in the closet, Jonas begins working at his aunt & uncle's thrift shop to get a work-ethic, as well as a feel for the real world.

In walks Tate, the family's tenant, along with his sisters, as well as the founder of a homeless shelter for LGBTQ youth. Where Jonas is flawed, Tate is perfect. Together, they were a good balance. The orphan and the disinherited, both being taken in and finding a real home with Jonas's aunt and uncle.

The book provided a ton of 'feels', good deeds, and the agony of the innocent being taken advantage. But for some reason, even with the novel hitting all the right notes, I just couldn't connect emotionally. I found myself skim-reading to get to the conflict and resolution of the novel. Perhaps it's because Tate came off as too perfect, too giving, without a selfish (human) bone in his body. Even Jonas's faults weren't his 'fault', allowing the reader to empathize.

There is some angst with other's taking advantage of the cast of characters. While I usually love angst, this felt manufactured, or simply unrealistic. The girl Jonas's father pushed off on him, I don't doubt that happens in real life, it just felt so out of place. However, that was the only time while reading this book that my emotions actually checked in, and I felt my heart clench with fury, injustice. and frustration, because everyone should be taught from birth never to cave to extortionists. I'd assume a rich kid from a political family would have been taught this.

As for the cellphone (as a way to avoid spoilers. I'll just say cellphone). At age 37, I've lived in a time before cells, and after. If someone took/stole/retrieved your cellphone, there are ways of contacting people outside of smoke signals, hitching rides with truckers, and walking for miles on end. We've used this object since its conception in the 1800s. In fact, our modern cellphone is the child of this device. This device is still used predominately all over the world. It's called... a telephone. Pick it up and dial. In fact, ask to borrow anyone's phone. If you're in your home city, I'm sure you know people you can visit within walking distance, and ask to borrow their phone. If you don't know the number you're trying to reach, as we rely on our contact list too much, then you log into Facebook and message from your friend's phone – the friend in your home city, whom you walked to ask for assistance. This friend, since Jonas was a popular guy, with lots of friends in his home city, would have probably just helped him/spotted him some cash & don't say these friends are away at school, it was Thanksgiving – the rich were home for appearance sake. Or you call 411, and give the city/state/name and then have the operator call for you. Just say, "I need help, Tate/Aunt/Uncle/Cousin/Boss/Friends."

Jonas had to have known ONE phone number. ONE. In a city as large as Chicago, if you ask ten people around you, especially if you look like Jonas, you will get help before you finish asking for it.

So the cellphone had me completely checking out like the author was trying their hardest to make Jonas a martyr woe-is-me, look how pitiful I am. "I lost everything. I don't even have a phone anymore."

Illogical.

As a person who has lost everything I built for my entire adult life, having to rely on my relatives. I had nothing, yet the last thing on my mind was my cellphone. Just saying.

Overall, I did enjoy Come What May, and I recommend this novel to fans of MM romance. I look forward to the next in the series, or whatever else A. M. Arthur publishes next.

A.M. Arthur was born and raised in the same kind of small town that she likes to write about, a stone's throw from both beach resorts and generational farmland. She's been creating stories in her head since she was a child and scribbling them down nearly as long in a losing battle to make the fictional voices stop. She credits an early fascination with male friendships (bromance hadn't been coined yet back then) with her later discovery of and subsequent love affair with m/m romance stories. A.M. Lee’Anne – ☆☆☆☆
Such a sweet romance, I really enjoyed it!

Ella Shaw has been in love with her best friend’s brother, Tyler Dare, forever. When Ella was 18, she got drunk and snuck into Tyler’s room when he was home for Christmas from the army, giving him her virginity. Since that fateful night, Tyler has avoided Ella like the plague. Now, years later, Ella is on an exotic island for a photo-shoot when she’s mugged and all her identification is stolen. There’s an impending hurricane and Ella’s best friend, not knowing about Tyler having broken Ella’s heart, is extremely worried about Ella, so she sends Tyler to rescue her. From the moment the two see one another again the attraction is strong and sparks begin to fly. When the troubles from the island follow Ella home, Tyler assigns himself as her official bodyguard. Will Ella get over the heartbreak that Tyler put her through?

I loved Ella’s character, she’s such a strong woman and I admired her fighting for the confidence it took to be with Tyler again. This is a sweet read and I look forward to more from Carly Phillips and this series!

Mary Jo – ☆☆☆☆
I can't believe that this is the last of the "Dare to Love" series and it ends with a sweet romance between the Ella, Avery's best friend and Tyler Dare, the love 'em and leave 'em Dare sibling.

We learn early on that Ella had a crush on Tyler long ago, and during a night of night of partying, they had a one-time interlude that left Ella feeling like a loser in the love department and Tyler feeling as though he took advantage of Avery's best friend.

Flash forward to now, and Ella has been mugged in a foreign country and Avery begs Tyler to go and get her. Once Tyler sees Ella laying in the hospital bed, he realizes that pushing her away has done nothing to dampen his feelings for her. Ella doesn't want to Tyler to like her; she's been disappointed by all the men in life, including Tyler. She'd rather be alone than to have a man like Tyler feel sorry for her and be with her out of pity.

Getting to the bottom of the trust issues between them is something that both Ella and Tyler must work at in order to be free of the past and learn to live for the future.

I hope that we see more of the Dare family in some form or fashion in the future.

Ruthie – ☆☆☆☆
I have REALLY, really enjoyed all of these books – and am really sad that this is the last in the series...although there is hope that we might just meet them again. If you have not read the others yet, then I really do recommend that you start at the beginning and get the full story – sure this is excellent in its own right, but there are so many nuances that you will otherwise miss. I am writing the review assuming you have read the others.

This is such an easy read, I am not sure I even moved as I rushed my way through it, wanting to know everything...and yet at the same time having that sinking feeling that it would end more quickly if I didn't take a break, and desperately wanting it to last and last. Such a dilemma!

We know these characters, we know much of their trials, dramas, failures, and career paths; and more recently, their romantic successes. Well, all of them except Tyler. He harbours so much guilt and angst that he is denying himself the pleasure that he so clearly sees his siblings enjoy. When a hurricane puts him in the path of Ella – probably the one that he feels most guilty about of all, the deck seems stacked. As they fall into an unlikely truce, and maybe so much more, they both need to clear the issues of the past and be ready for a future. Watching them get there is a joy and a frustration, and of course there is the fact that all of Tyler's family also have an opinion! They are a delightful couple, and the chemistry jumps off the page. Be prepared to chuckle, to frown, and to smile, wide and with your eyes.

Thank you Ms. Phillips – this series is absolutely in my series to reread list, and I can't wait to see what you are serving up next!

My mind is a mess.

I can’t live this way anymore. He thinks I’ve told him the worst, but I’ve barely told him anything at all.

I can’t love Landon.

He just brings more confusion. I need to leave. Then I can break through the chaos that haunts me.

My mind has never been so clear.

I’m writing new songs faster than ever before. I’m falling for her, even as the secret that I’ve kept hidden for years threatens to reveal itself.

I can’t love Alex.

Everyone will know I’m a monster. I’ll stay away. It’s the only way.

The plot thickens, literally! A reappearance of a certain someone leaves us in a huge cliffhanger! Finally deciding she might be able to move on with her life, Alexa decides to maybe let Landon in her heart. He screws that all up by showing up at Alexa's mother-in-law's fundraiser with crazy old Caroline! Caroline adds a great dynamic to the new couple's ongoing issues and I really want to know what she's up to!! This novella flies by faster than the first and leaves us hanging on by our fingernails. Bring it on Ella Miles!

Shannan – ☆☆☆☆
3.5 STARS
Aligned: Volume 1 leaves you hanging. If you are like me, you have to know what happens. Why does Alexa's mother-in-law dislike her so much? Who is Alexa having the panic attacks over? What is Caroline holding over Landon? I had to know the answers to these questions. Just to be clear I am still waiting.

Volume 2 picks up right where one left off. Alexa is still confused over her feelings for Landon. Landon and Alexa have a connection, it's more than just a friendship, but can it be explored? Alexa is having panic attacks, especially when things get physical between her and Landon. You learn more about her past, but not what's causing them. Landon's writer's block has finally broken, thanks to Alexa. He is still accompanying Caroline places, acting the part of her boyfriend but telling Alexa she's just a friend. There is something he is hiding but won't confess regarding that situation.

I am enjoying the way the story is playing out. My only complaint is the insta-love was inevitable, but I still wanted more buildup between them, before the I love yous were being thrown around. The ending has me needing the next volume ASAP!

Rachael – ☆☆☆☆☆
*GASP* quite the cliffhanger on this one. I can't wait for the next part of this series!!!!

This is the second part of the Aligned series and we get to know more about Alexa, but still nothing too revealing about her past even though she's still trying to figure it out. She becomes much stronger and confident in this story.

Landon is struggling to keep his distance and give her the time and space she needs. Plus, Caroline is holding something on him, we just don't know what it is yet...

There is a lot of off the charts chemistry here even though there really isn't a whole lot of sexy stuff. It's just interesting characters and a great plot line!

Devil’s Kiss by Ella Frank Blog Tour

What do you do when the one you least expect to matter…
Ends up mattering the most?

Derek Pearson likes to think he’s an easygoing guy. Uncomplicated, upfront, and unapologetic with what he wants. His what you see is what you get attitude is on prominent display for anyone who cares to look, and his foul mouth is right there to back it up should you miss the point.

However, what you see isn’t always what you get, and only a select few have ever glimpsed the real man under the brash exterior.

Among them? Professor Jordan Devaney. Complicated, high-maintenance, and vibrant, he’s Derek’s opposite in every way. From the moment they saw each other, a love-hate relationship began.

But what happens when one person wants more?

THE CALL

Present Day

DEREK PEARSON PUSHED open the door of Leighton, Finley & Associates, and stepped out on the paved sidewalk. It was the first day of August, and if the sweltering Floridian sun was any indication, today was going to be hotter than hell’s waiting room.

As he strolled toward the curb, he pulled a pack of Marlboros from the pocket of his shorts and flipped open the top. He needed a fucking cigarette after watching Daniel Finley and his damn professor get all sappy and shit. That was gonna get old real quick if he had to stomach their nauseating displays of I love yous longer than the fifteen minutes he’d been in there. But he’d known he had to make an appearance sooner or later; otherwise Danny boy would’ve shown up asking questions. Questions he wasn’t ready to answer.

There’d been a reason he hadn’t come around to see Finn when he first moved back from Chicago two months ago, but it wasn’t something he was in the mood to talk about yet, even if he was one of the two people on the planet who would get all the shit he’d been dealing with.

Yeah… He just wasn’t ready to go there.

With a smoke between his lips, he lit up, then shoved the pack back in his shorts. He was so damn antsy lately, and for that he could thank his brother, Alan.

He walked around to the side of his Jeep and pulled open the door. After climbing inside, he grabbed his cell phone and stared at the dark screen, contemplating his next move.

Am I really planning to do this?

Fuck
, it seemed that he was, even when he knew better.

If he did this, it would be nothing more than a Band-Aid over the real problem. A shot to numb the more painful issues he was dealing with right now. He would be slipping back into a pattern he had pulled himself out of. An addiction he’d broken free from. But he was also aware that if he didn’t do it, the alternative would be to spiral out of control, and solitude was no longer helping his fucked-up nerves.

He brought the phone to his ear and waited. The phone rang and rang, and fucking rang, until he was close to hanging up—and then it connected.

“You free?” were the only two words out of his mouth. He waited, not caring to pursue small talk. That wasn’t what this was about. All he cared about in that moment was getting what he needed.

When an affirmative came through the phone, he hung up, tossed it on the dashboard, and brought the Jeep to life. As he sped across town, he white-knuckled the steering wheel and didn’t allow himself to think about the consequences of what he was about to do.

It took him less than ten minutes to pull into the underground parking garage of The Palisades and take the elevator up to where his drug of choice waited for him. He glanced up into the camera in the corner of his metallic confines and stared boldly into the face of the one who was waiting at the other end of this ride.

Yeah, he was about to fall off the fucking wagon big time. Was about to slide back into the one place he promised himself he wouldn’t go again. Yet as the elevator came to a halt and the doors opened, there was no denying this was exactly what he wanted.

“I have thirty minutes,” were the words that greeted him.

Derek walked off the elevator and over to the naked man waiting for him. He took the haughty chin between his thumb and forefinger and promised in a voice thick with arousal, “I only need ten. Take me to your room, Jordan. Time’s a wasting.”

We met Derek in the first book of the series, Finley, and he was a hoot! Straight to the point and seemed hot as sin, and you couldn’t help wanting to know more about him. Jordan was also in the first book briefly, Derek and Finn would call him Posh, as in Posh Spice. I love these two guys. Polar opposites and so right for each other. Just like the first book in the series, this one covers several years. We see why Derek is the way he is, you can’t blame him. Jordan is just a doll, you can’t help but love him and want to hang out with him. His cockiness worked and didn’t annoy me. You see the special bond these two have and you can’t help but want that too. I laughed and I cried, I just loved this book and can’t wait to read the next one in the series!

Finn and Brantley were good, but I LOVED Jordan and Derek.

The back and forth, close but so far away. Devil's Kiss is definitely an angst driven read. At times I wanted to smack the both of them for acting so foolish, but in the end it was all worth it.

The story takes you from Derek and Jordan's first meeting in college when the attraction started, through years after college life. You see a back and forth, friendship with so much more brewing underneath.

So worth the read to fall in love with these two!

Ruthie – ☆☆☆☆
This is the second in the series – I have not yet had a chance to read Finley, but have a feeling that it may well shed light on certain aspects that I have missed. I enjoyed it as a standalone.

Unusually, this book spans many years, so there is a wealth of detail of things both good and bad – so expect to need a tissue, and be prepared to smile wide too. Also be patient – we know what each of them think, but they seem to have forgotten to communicate with each other. These two very different guys just somehow work, initially as friends, because it is safer – and when it finally comes to them heating up the sheets, well the chemistry is incendiary. I liked that the differences between them were significant, but not overstated.

Ms. Frank has once again created a fascinating relationship, and given us a journey to remember. I look forward to seeing what comes next...

When Sela sees JT on TV she knows he's the man that starred in every nightmare she's ever had. She is seeking revenge anyway she can get it against the man that hurt her when she was sixteen. Finding out that JT is an owner of a dating site that pairs older men with younger woman, she thinks she has her answer to get closer to JT, to hurt him in the worst possible way. What she's not expecting is his partner, Beck. It should be easy, get close to Beck to get closer to JT. Beck isn't at all what she was expecting. Can there be something better than getting revenge?

Such a good read. I couldn't put it down. I can't wait to see what happens next.

Ruthie – ☆☆☆☆
It is always a little dangerous to start a book which already warns the reader that there is cliffhanger...but it had to be done, and I certainly don't regret it – I just hope that Ms. Bennett is busy getting the next one ready for us!

I like stories which are a bit different, and this one achieves it very successfully, giving the reader plenty of the elements that make a book unputdownable. I really enjoy being made to think about how I would react in a particular situation, and then comparing that with the character's reality (well, book reality!). And here, I certainly questioned whether I could or would do similar. Sela is very interestingly written, as a survivor, but not really a healed one. Beck...yum, and yet the reader really isn't able to get fully on board...no doubt the next installment will reveal more. As well as the 'big' story, the developing romance in itself is very enjoyable, and most definitely chemistry driven. Oh, I do hope that the next book is out soon, I am going to be wondering and wondering until I can read it!

New York Times and USA Today bestselling author Sawyer Bennett is a snarky southern woman and reformed trial lawyer who decided to finally start putting on paper all the stories that were floating in her head. Mr. and Mr. Smith by HelenKay Dimon

Secrets and seduction make for an explosive combination in HelenKay Dimon’s edgy, thrilling new series, which kicks off with a novel about two men who can handle any threat—except the one posed by desire.

Fisher Braun knows how to keep a secret. As a covert paramilitary operative, his job—and his life—depends on it. He’s at the top of his game, ready for action and always in control. No enemy has ever brought him to his knees, but one lover has: Zachary Allen, the man currently sharing his bed. The perfect package of brains and brawn, Zach is someone worth coming home to, and Fisher hates keeping him in the dark about what he does. But the lies keep Zach safe. Until the day Fisher loses everything...

Zachary Allen is no innocent civilian. Although he plays the tech geek, in reality he’s deep undercover for the CIA. In a horrible twist of fate, the criminal enterprise he’s infiltrated has set its sights on the man whose touch drives him wild. Zach would do anything for Fisher—except blow his own cover. Now, in order to save him, Zach must betray him first. And he needs Fisher to trust him with all his heart if they want to make it out alive.

Shannan – ☆☆☆
When your job depends on absolute secrecy, not only to save your life but the lives of those you love, you keep secrets. Finding out the geeky boyfriend isn't who you think he is, is shocking especially when you find out you are two separate sides.

You are thrown into the action with the first page. It's a fast paced beginning. The energy between Zach and Fisher is sparking. I got lost somewhere in the middle, it goes from a page-turner to me skimming chapters. The action and angst picks back up somewhere near the end. Overall, I found it an enjoyable read.

Veronica – ☆☆☆
CIA agent Fisher meets Zach in a bar and they begin an affair. But Fisher thinks that his boyfriend is a computer geek. Turns out Zach is CIA too.

This story has action, danger, and good guys trying to bring down the bad guys. Throughout this, Fisher struggles to cope with Zack's betrayal and his feelings for Zack now he knows the truth about him. I found the romance a little too in your face at times, and this had me disconnecting emotionally from the characters. The action and intrigue and sex were good and kept me reading.

I wonder if the author will write more stories of Fisher and Zack. Mr. and Mr. Smith was good and I'd read any follow ups.

Ruthie – ☆☆☆☆
This is definitely a book for readers who like bluff and double bluff, of a rather Bond nature. It is fast paced, well crafted, so that one really isn't quite sure (even now) about some of the characters' loyalties. It stretched my imagination, and was a very satisfying read.

I liked how the relationship threaded through the thriller, and how it played out. They certainly heated up the page – and may have cornered the market on angry (I'm-not-in-love) but steamy action. I rather hope that Ms. Dimon has a few more stories to tell with this group of agents, as there are plenty of openings for a follow on!

Angie – ☆☆
I honestly didn’t like this book. I was bored, I skimmed, and even the good sex couldn’t keep me interested. There was a lot of action, but then a lot of boring parts as well. I didn’t feel any connection with the characters and I just couldn’t wait for the book to be over. I feel bad saying that because I know how hard authors work, this just wasn’t for me but I am sure other people will enjoy it.

HelenKay Dimon spent the years before becoming a romance author as a divorce attorney—not the usual career transition. Now she writes full-time and she’s much happier. The author of more than thirty novels, novellas, and short stories that have twice been named Red-Hot Reads and excerpted in Cosmopolitan, she’s on the board of directors of the Romance Writers of America and teaches fiction writing at UC San Diego and MiraCosta College.

Not for a Moment by Toni J. Strawn

It doesn’t matter who started it—only who ends up on top.

Jess Langford wants nothing more than to live her own life. But a horrific accident she had a few years ago left her with…issues. And an overprotective brother who thwarts her every attempt at independence.

Secretly moving out of her college dorm, she celebrates her newfound freedom with a one-night stand with a man she thinks she recognizes. It’s only in the light of the following morning she discovers the truth. It’s someone with the power and connections to send her right back to the prison she just escaped.

Physiotherapy consultant Van Sheffield knows exactly who Jess is. Stubborn. Rebellious. Trouble with a capital T. In other words, the perfect candidate for his innovative rehabilitation program.

Loving her spark, the energy that makes her pick herself up every time she falls, Van sets out to do whatever it takes to harness Jess’s strength of will. But he wasn’t expecting her to push him so close to the edge of his control…or so close to losing his heart.

Warning: Contains a feisty lady with a stubborn streak a mile wide, and a man who knows how to deal with a certain pain in the butt.

Ruthie – ☆☆☆
This is the third book in the series, and I really enjoyed the previous two. This one just didn't quite hit the same spot for me. Unusually, I really didn't get the behaviour of the lead characters. I can't really explain without revealing too much of the story, but I did read it all. There were bits that worked well, and there is good level of humour, thanks in the main to her two friends.

We get to read the story from Jess and Van's points of view, and they are so far apart in their thinking that the chemistry between them was more difficult to fathom – although it was undoubtedly hot. There was progression, and lessons learned, which was satisfying. It was good to touch base with friends from previous books too.

Toni Strawn lives in the beautiful South Island of New Zealand, the adventurers’ playground. Like all writers with an overactive imagination, Toni would prefer to throw her heroines off a cliff with a book of matches, string and a rusty Swiss-army knife, than do any adventuring of her own. A self-confessed tom-boy, Toni likes her heroes tough and her heroines tougher.

While not furiously trying to wreck her heroine’s lives before finding them a happily ever after, Toni can be found feeding her addiction to paranormal romance novels. Get Toni’s must-have reading list of paranormal romance series here.
