The Edge by SJD Peterson

Submissive Joshua has struggled with his addiction to pain for years—something Dom Nash knew when he took Joshua on. Nash also knew their path wouldn’t be an easy one, but through commitment and determination, he peels back Joshua’s layers one by one, revealing a horrific history of abuse and neglect that spans Joshua’s entire life. Nash wants nothing more than to gain Joshua’s trust and help him find the happiness that’s eluded him so long.

Providing structure and discipline is only part of what Joshua will need on his way to recovery. He’ll need the help of Dr. Hobson and their close friends at the Underground BDSM Club to help hold Joshua together as he faces the trauma of his past. It’ll push him to the edge, but Nash will be there to keep him from falling into the abyss of despair, and if Joshua can come out on the other side, he’ll be a step closer to wholeness, healing, and happiness.

Third book in the series and I liked the book, I just didn't love it. While there was hot sex, which I LOVE, there was a lot of inner monologue, which I hate. I need dialogue between the characters. If I can't connect to Nash or Joshua, that makes it hard for me to get into the story and love it. There was a lot these two needed to work out and they had one hell of a bumpy ride. I am eagerly awaiting to see what's next in the series.

Limitless by SJD Peterson

Even within the context of the Underground BDSM Club, Joshua’s desires are dark and extreme. Hopelessly addicted to pain and the high it gives him, he has no limits. Joshua would quite literally rather die than use a safeword, and he accepts that might be his fate. As much as he depends on others, he has yet to find a man who can gain his trust, and he has little hope that he ever will.

For Nash, acquiring Joshua from another Dom at the club is only the first step in what will be a long and arduous road to lure the young man back from the brink of self-destruction. He must do the impossible and win Joshua’s trust, and he must be the one to set limits in their exploration—something he’s unaccustomed to as a Dom. But Nash knows dominance doesn’t always mean pushing a submissive’s boundaries. It’s about establishing a bond and fulfilling another man’s needs. In Joshua’s case, he’ll have to strike a balance between meeting the young man’s expectations and drawing firm lines that will save Joshua from himself.

I really liked this book. I liked Nash and Joshua and I liked the speed of the story. There was a buildup and we got to really know Joshua. You could tell Nash really cared about Joshua and wanted what was best for him and that he wanted a future. My only complaint about this book is the ending, it seemed abrupt and I felt like I was left hanging. I was expecting an epilogue or something. Maybe we will see more of these two in the next book? I hope so, because just when things were sorting out and getting good, the book just ended.

This is the first book in the series that I have read.

Joshua is struggling... he has an owner who isn't altogether a favorite of Nash's. Troy is somewhat cavalier with his pets, and when Nash sees old scarring on Joshua, Nash jumps to a wrong conclusion.

Nash and Joshua have a bumpy start – Troy agrees to release Joshua from their contract, but only if someone will take Joshua on right away. Nash wants to be that person. However, Nash doesn't really know what makes Joshua tick – why he doesn't have limits.

While Joshua learns that not all doms are always taking, he also learns that what he perceives as his "calm" might not be calm at all.

Nash tries to help Joshua, but both realize that in order for this paring to work, they both must trust each other – to learn why their type of relationship works.

I do wish that this story had more to it – I felt that it was cut short. While I enjoyed the dynamic and the story flowed nicely, I think it would have been more effective if we had seen an epilogue at least. This story left too many questions.

Override by SJD Peterson

Don’t judge a book by its cover…

At over six feet, with a body honed in the gym, auto worker Donavan Gregory is used to people assuming he’s a dominant top. Unfortunately, they’re wrong, and Donavan’s desire to explore his submissive side goes unfulfilled.

Smaller and older than Donavan, Doctor Seth Manning might not look like a typical dominant, but when the two men meet at Pride, Donavan realized Seth might be his perfect counterpart. The trouble is, Donavan doesn’t have as much experience with the BDSM world as he’d like. What could an educated, handsome, and confident man like Seth possibly see in someone like him? Seth must convince him that despite the differences on the surface, when it comes to kinky fun and discovery, they’ll fit together just fine.

Sarah – ☆☆☆☆
I’m in two minds about this book. Filled with hot sex scenes and some unthreatening BSDM for beginners, the sexual connection between Donovan and Seth is electric. But while I enjoyed Donovan’s introduction to the world of kink, I wasn’t convinced by the romantic relationship between the two men.

I enjoyed the physical role reversal – huge musclebound Donovan makes an unlikely sub for Seth. I liked the way BDSM was confined to the sexual relationship because I struggle with total power exchange relationships. There is an element of fun in Seth and Donovan’s relationship that separates this from so many more angsty BDSM books.

Blue collar Donovan is a likeable character, if a bit indecisive and anxious through this story. I liked his friendship with Cain, but I found myself wanting to know more about his past and more about him beyond his job, the gym, and Seth. Seth kept calling Donovan “smart” and “clever” but I’m not sure we ever get any evidence that Donovan has brains as well as brawn.

I struggled a bit more with Seth’s character. There are times he reads as much older than 32 and I didn’t like the paternal approach he took to Donovan at times. He is yet another completely unrealistic fictional doctor – eminent and respected even though he would barely be finished his OBGYN training at 32. His backstory is confusing. At one point he complains about owning a small house because of his student loans and shortly after he invites Donovan to his family’s mansion to meet his wealthy and supportive parents. Seth’s family is wonderful, though and they add some balance to Seth’s darker, kinkier side.

This is definitely a sexy read but I didn’t really warm to the characters or their relationship enough to enjoy the romance part of this story. However, I have to recommend it even if just for the power of Donovan and Seth’s very first, fully clothed, experience with ropes.

This isn’t your typical book by S.J.D. Peterson, but it was still really good. There was no angst, no drama really, just a really sweet love story. Donavan is a blue collar worker who has a submissive side he really wants to explore. Seth is a small, white collar worker who is a Dom all the way. These two are so good together, there is so much chemistry, and you can feel their emotions. The best part of the book was, of course, when Seth takes Donavan to a club and he lets Donavan take control, that was super-hot in so many ways. I loved how Seth’s family just adored Donavan and accepted him right away too. I can’t wait to see what happens in the next book because the preview looked just as good!

This is the first in a series, and I am definitely adding it to my list to look out for. I read a lot of books, but few authors have the confidence, and the ability to pull off a really simple, pleasing story without drama. There is every day angst, and certainly these two men are not perfect. But they are tolerant, they are honest with each other, and they have some great chemistry. That Donovan has thrown Seth into a spin and he forgets all his big bad Dom ways at times, is effective and endearing. That he is fun, and patient, and giving is entertaining and hot.

I have a suspicion that book two about pain-loving Jordan may not be such plain sailing, but variety is the spice of life!
