Echoes of Fire by Suzanne Wright is part of The Mercury Pack series, which is a spin-off from The Phoenix Pack series. I have read several of Suzanne Wright’s books in both The Mercury Pack series and The Phoenix Pack series and I’ve grown rather fond of all the characters in both series. Although, reading the previous books in the series is not necessary because Echoes of Fire can be a read as a standalone. That being said, I did have moments of wondering what I had missed because Bracken Slater’s character hadn’t previously really stood out to me in the previous books.

I easily found myself developing a real soft spot for this wolf shifter who had been consumed by grief and guilt. Now, with Madisyn Drake, a rare feline shifter, in the picture he’s feeling more alive than he has in a long time.

Wright’s characters always have such explosive chemistry in the bedroom and Echoes of Fire was no exception. I loved how well Madisyn and Bracken fit together! Reading Echoes of Fire kind of makes me want to go back and re-read some of her older books in this series because I kinda wish I had a better recollection of Bracken’s character. I was just so wowed by him that I can’t believe I missed him! Also, Madisyn’s character was such a strong independent female lead and I just adored her and her feisty Pallas cat self!

I was kinda excited to get back into the shifter romance scene cause it’s been a hot minute since I’ve read a good one and Wright definitely delivered with Echoes of Fire.

Another solid addition to The Mercury Pack series. 4 stars for Suzanne Wright’s Echoes of Fire!

Madisyn is a loner, not just because of her unique breed but because of losing her parents at a young age. She's not meek or cowardly or afraid of facing life head on as one might be after experiencing such tragedies at a young age.

Bracken is broken inside. Not only did he witness his family's deaths at the hands of those who want to extinguish the shifter clans, he feels enormous guilt because as an enforcer, it’s his duty to protect his pack as well as his family.

Nothing has sparked his interest since the death of his family except for getting revenge. Now at loose ends, he's contemplating taking a leave from his post as enforcer to travel, to see if there is peace to be found. But then Madisyn is attacked by a group of bear shifters and he's sent in to check on her and make sure she's okay.

Madisyn doesn't feel like she needs a babysitter but as the attacks keep coming, she finds that she doesn't mind Bracken being around. He gives her space to be herself and his house is even more secluded than hers. She has found peace with him – if only the bears would go away and let them see where this goes.

This installment of the Mercury Pack is riveting, and I couldn't put it down.

I have read several of the books in Suzanne Wright’s The Phoenix Pack series and The Mercury Pack series and I’ve always found them enjoyable reads. Although Lure of Oblivion (The Mercury Pack #3) can be read as a standalone, I think it’s best enjoyed in order, but not necessary if you wanna cut straight to book #3. Also, since The Mercury Pack is a spin-off series from The Phoenix Pack, be prepared to have some characters from the previous books make appearances. Now, I had some minor reservations about Lure of Oblivion because I wasn’t overly fond of Force of Temptation (The Mercury Pack #2). It just didn’t quite entice me in the same way as Wright’s books usually do. However, I had nothing to worry about because Wright once again easily lured me into her story! I have grown fond of all these characters throughout the series and I love the way she always finds a way to weave them back in to give us an update on their lives.

Lure of Oblivion follows the story of Gwen Miller, a human who takes a stand to protect a lone female shifter who was assaulted and harassed. Luckily, Zander Devlin, an enforcer for the Mercury pack, happens to be staying at the inn where Gwen works and he’s taken a sudden interest in the situation and in Gwen.

I loved Gwen because she was such a strong and independent female character and she had no trouble going toe to toe with Zander. Also, I was so excited to read Zander’s story and the chemistry between him and Gwen was perfect! Lure of Oblivion was another great addition to Wright’s Mercury Pack series and I can’t wait for Wright’s next book!

I love this series and how the author blends new stories and older characters together seamlessly, and Zander's story is no exception.

Zander's wolf is scarred as is the man. When he meets Gwen, he doesn't understand why his wolf shies away. Gwen is strong, fights for what's right, and is loyal to a fault.

Gwen spent most of her childhood wondering why her mother didn't stand up to her stepfather, why she continued to let him abuse her. The best thing that ever happened to her was being taken away from mother and placed in foster care. Ever since, she's stood up for what's right even if she pays a heavy price.

She likes Zander, but doesn't understand what he sees in her. She's human after all. She knows that his wolf is wary of her and she believes it because she is human.

However, when Gwen's life is threatened by outside forces, Zander's wolf comes to her aid, forging a bond that cannot be broken.

This is the second book of the series and I admit I was a little lost at first, but that's only because it’s been a while since I read book one and the Phoenix Pack series.

Most of the shifter books deal with romance between either feline or canine species, with the rare book tackling a romance between species. This book handles that situation with great finesse.

We have Harley, who was raised in a very nontraditional pack. Not only that, she's a half-margay/half-human shifter. And has been terrorized by various packs and prides in the past. After her father went to prison and her mother imploded, Harley eventually ended up living with her human aunt, Tess. She doesn't trust anyone, except herself, as time has proven over and over again that trusting people only leads to more hurt.

Jesse is an enforcer with the Mercury Pack. He's been watching over Harley for the last three years and only from afar. His family was one of the ones that blamed her for his sister's downward spiral into drugs and alcohol. His entire pack blamed her and did their best to make her life miserable. It would have been worse if she had indeed been a member of his pack, and being in the nontraditional pride she was born into didn't offer anything in way of protection. When she sent to stay with her aunt, Jesse was relieved.

Now, Harley is in danger from The Extremists, believing that by killing her they would strike at the heart of the movement. The young seer in his pack had told Jesse of the danger and he decided it was time to bring his mate home.

The other thing this book did very well was tell the story of how two people who are true mates can be mated. Jesse's true mate had died during childhood and Harley had yet to find hers. Jesse firmly believed that Harley was his mate and would do everything in his power to help her see him as her mate.

The sub-plot in the book about the half-shifter who is trying to buy the pack's territory allows the other members of the pack to be showcased and also helps to forge the mating bond between Harley and Jesse.

I've read most of Suzanne Wright's books from her Phoenix Pack series and the previous book from the Mercury Pack series, which meant I leapt at the chance to read Force of Temptation. Personally, I think that the Mercury Pack series is a little easier to follow if you're somewhat familiar with Wright's Phoenix Pack series because those character frequently cross over into the Mercury Pack books and it's a spin-off from that series, but not completely necessary. Totally worth a read if you haven't read any of the Phoenix Pack books before though!

This book focuses on one of the wolf shifters who is an enforcer, Jesse, from the Mercury Pack and a half human/margay shifter, Harley, that Jesse knew from his childhood. Harley had been living in the human world when anti-shifter extremists decide to target her. With Harley in danger, Jesse finally decides he's waited long enough for her. He shows up to offer the protection of his pack and hopefully convince her to stay for good.

Normally, I have no trouble diving right into Wright's shifter romances, but for some reason this one didn't hold my attention quite as well. However, that doesn't mean I didn't enjoy it and I'll definitely be looking for more from this author in the future! Also, I thought it was really interesting to read about a margay shifter and wolf shifter because I've never even heard of a margay. Plus, it's not too often you get a shifter romance between a wolf and feline shifter.

I liked it, but I just didn't love it as much as I hoped I would. Force of Temptation gets a 3.5 stars rating from me.

When I saw that this book was being offered through NetGalley for review, I immediately asked the Admin of WRRT if we could get it. I love the way Ms. Wright weaves storylines and characters and makes you feel that you are right at home with each book that she writes.

I love the way that she has written Ally and Derren in that they are strong, dominant wolves, but learn to lean on each other while facing the unknown.

I can't wait for the next book in this series.
