Survival Game by Susan Mac Nicol

Since his true love died, paramedic Eric Kirby has been living a half life, but when he meets purple-haired Kyle Tripper, Eric's heart is jolted into a whole new rhythm.

HANDLE...

Kyle Tripper has led an interesting life. Currently the manager of London's famous Club Delish, he used to be a croupier extraordinaire in Las Vegas. But not everything in that life was so glamorous; his ex was a piece of work. Now gun-shy, Kyle hopes there is someone special out there for him, and secretly wishes it's luscious paramedic, Eric Kirby.

WITH CARE

Every day Eric Kirby goes through the motions. Yeah, he saves lives, and, sure, he makes a difference, but he doesn't feel it anymore - not since he lost his one true. But, when he meets wild, flamboyant Kyle Tripper and learns there's a skittish, apprehensive man beneath the bold façade, the best of Eric's protective nature kicks in and opens his heart to a new love.

This is the ninth book in the series – and it does not waver in its fresh look at life in London for this group of men living to the full. This follows on closely from Hard Climate, so I would at least recommend that you read that one first. The links to the other books are tenuous, but there for the fan to enjoy.

Kyle is a man who has suffered badly at the hands of his previous lover, and we learn very early on that he falls back into the nightmare when pressed. The set-up is very clever, because the rest of the book the reader is waiting for the shoe to drop, just like he is. He is not, however, a coward, and loves his job with Ryan at Club Delish.

Eric had a brief romance with Ryan, but now he goes to Club Delish to see Kyle – and wonder whether it is time to move on from his past. Knowing that he too has a tortured past, gives the reader hope that the chemistry between Eric and Kyle may just give them both the future they deserve.

As always, there is plenty of passion, a large dose of drama, and the opportunity to make a life together – very satisfying read, thank you, Ms. Mac Nicol.

I am probably going to be in the minority on this book, however, it just didn't work for me. I truly enjoy this series and I will continue to read it, but this one missed the mark for me. I didn't connect with either Kyle or Eric, I wanted to, I tried, it just didn't work. Then Ryan gets sick and we all know him from a previous book and that seemed to be skimmed over – or at least not enough time was spent on it for me. Kyle does have a touchy past and it could be a trigger for some people; and poor Eric, I will say my heart broke for him when I read his first nightmare about Lincoln. Even though I didn't connect with the characters and it didn't hit the mark for me, it was still a good addition to the series.

Sight Unseen by Susan Mac Nicol with Nicholas Downs

Tragedy brings together a reserved but brilliant sculptor and an outgoing gallery owner, friends whose love was sidetracked—but was always meant to be deeper.

BLINDSIDED

SoCal natives, Nate and Cody have been friends since childhood. Both knew they were different—and the same. At seventeen, a stolen weekend in the Florida Keys drove their connection deeper and hotter than either could imagine. They were meant to be together. Then, for reasons only Nate knows, suddenly they weren’t.

They’re still friends. Best friends. But they’ve moved on and found other partners. The yearning remains, however, despite the long-ago secret that drove them apart, and when tragedy strikes, both men find themselves in the dark. They must grope their way back to who and what they are...which they will find in each other’s arms. Sometimes, losing one’s sight can open one’s eyes—and heart.

Note from the author (lol) This book has sexy times but not as many as my usual books. I’m telling you now in case this makes a difference to you as to whether you buy the book. I’m trying to avoid getting reviews about how crap this book was because there wasn’t that much sex and it’s supposed to be a romance #JustSaying #FairWarning

This is a relationship love story about overcoming adversity, and it’s a slow burning one…

Loved this book! You could feel the connection between Nate and Cody, not just the love but the friendship. Even if the romantic part never happened, this book shows you what true friendship is, that you are there for a person no matter what happens and to make the best of the situation. This book gave me the feels, I couldn’t put it down and when I had to actually stop reading and go to work, I couldn’t wait to get back to reading it when I was home again. This will be added to my re-read pile for sure!

Characters: Well written and easy to relate to
Sex: Oh yeah!

This story had me weeping from the start. When Nate, a young sculptor loses his sight in an accident, his whole world changes. This is the story of Nate learning how to live a life he never expected.

Nate is such a brilliant character. So many members of the LGBT community find themselves without the traditional family support that most of us take for granted and Nate’s inner strength as he faces his loss of sight on his own is inspiring. I loved his talent and passion for his art, but I also loved his human frustration and his struggle to remain positive.

Cody is an equally inspiring character. He works tirelessly to support and enable his best friend. He loves Nate fiercely and the relationship between these two men is really special. I love the friendship and I love the way it turns into something more.

My only reservations about this story are with the slightly clichéd supporting characters. Nate’s boyfriend and his parents are just too awful to be believable and they detract from an otherwise honest and realistic story. I love Nate’s family of choice, and his journey towards independence and a meaningful life is very special.

Hard Climate by Susan Mac Nicol

Eco-warrior Mango Manning must shake the demons of his past to win back London nightclub owner Ryan Bishop, who is suddenly facing issues of his own.

WITH BOTH HANDS

Brawny, beautiful, complicated and sexy as hell, eco-warrior Mango Manning is everything performer and London nightclub owner Ryan Bishop wants in a life-partner. But Mango has been loving and leaving Ryan for the past two years, and Ryan’s had enough. That’s why he’s moving on. Ryan’s the monogamous type—which means now he’ll be alone at the worst possible time.

Mango Manning knows he’s screwed up and has commitment issues. That’s why he’s been so on-and-off with Ryan these past two years. He’d thought he found a safe haven, a place to hide from the losses of his past, but there are other demons you just can’t escape. Like Ryan’s health. If Mango is to put things right, he must man up and discover a way back into Club Delish and the heart of its owner. Only then can they look to the future together, come what may. True happiness will slip through their fingers...unless they both grab on and hold tight.

This is such a great series. This story is about Mango and Ryan, who we have met in previous books. Such a sweet love story with some angst thrown in for good measure. I liked seeing Lenny and Brook too, such a great couple. I can’t wait to see what happens in the next book, and I hope we get Kyle’s story at some point. This series always gives me the feels and this book did not disappoint.

This is the eighth book of the series – and although there are links throughout, this could be read as a standalone. However, all the books are really good, so I would recommend that you read them all!

Even though it has been a few months since I read the previous book in the series, I was soon back in the world of this loosely linked group of friends and their lives and loves. Ryan runs (is) club Delish, and whilst he is very happy that his best friend with benefits is now off the market, and all loved up. His true love, Mango, is a man who resists all forms of commitment, yet is always expecting Ryan to be there for him...

Luckily Mango (love the reason for his nickname...) works out – with some very strong prompting from his friends – that he perhaps needs to pay Ryan more attention. He does make a big effort, and I loved watching him being the person that we would like to believe Ryan would fall for – Ms. Mac Nicol does a brilliant job of getting us right into the story and totally invested in what is happening.

Really great story, which made me laugh, definitely made me tear up, and is super sexy too. It is difficult not to want to imagine future story lines, as this group of guys really get into your imagination. I am looking forward to reading the next installment very much.

Damaged Goods by Susan Mac Nicol is Now Available & Reviewed

Touched by tragedy, love is an elusive dream never to be realised by eighteen-year-old Jax Grady--until he discovers his secret admirer and receives the sweetest gift he could ever desire.

THE SWEETEST GIFT

Tragedy and horror shaped Jackson Grady's life, leaving him orphaned and scarred. At eighteen he's ready to claim his future, but who could love his disfigured face and damaged soul? Definitely not a big, burly, beautiful Irish Traveller who is entirely the stuff of dreams.

Dare Rowan didn't mean to become obsessed with the blue-eyed man he first saw across a field, but that porcelain skin and innocent air demanded another meeting. Jax has the face of a wounded angel, and the rest of the young man is as heart-breakingly perfect. Jax is beautiful in every way and teaching him about love and life will be something Dare will embrace. Like unwrapping and savouring the candy at the shop where he works, Dare will show this young man everything Jax desired but never thought he'd have, and take Jax to new highs while he holds him through the lows. Between them, they’ll find out just how sweet life can be.

“Who’s there?” he called out. Jax hated the slight quaver in his voice, not wanting to appear defenceless to a potential burglar. “I can hear you, so no use hiding. Just tell me what you want here. Or get the fuck out of my home.”

He wouldn’t tip his hand, telling the burglar he had a weapon. Let the bastard find out for himself, he thought grimly. The scuffling noise stopped and now all Jax could hear was someone’s steady breathing.

Jax stood straight and tall, hoping he looked intimidating in the dim light, where no one could see he wasn’t superhero material.

A quiet voice echoed from the darkness. “I’m not here to rob you or hurt anyone. I hope I didn’t scare you.” The voice sounded familiar and Jax frowned, trying to place it.

“I’m not scared.” Jax gripped the poker tighter. “Who the hell are you and what are you doing here?” He let out the breath he hadn’t known he was holding and scowled, reaching down to fumble for the table lamp. He switched it on and the room flooded with warm light. Jax momentarily closed his eyes, trying to adjust to it. When he opened them, a large, blurred figure stood by the door to the hallway. It was half open and Jax guessed the man had been trying to make a clean break away from whatever he’d been doing in the house.

Jax stepped around the huddled blanket on the floor and made his way closer to the other man.

If he was going to hurt me, he’d have done it already.

“Are you going to tell me what the hell you’re doing in this house?” he demanded. Something propelled him forward; he didn’t feel nervous anymore, simply curious. As Jax got closer, he squinted at the stranger, trying to see him more clearly.

“I came to return something.” The other man’s even tone sent a shiver through Jax’s body. “Something that was taken from you that didn’t belong where it was.”

Now Jax was sure he knew the person behind the voice. It surely couldn’t be who he thought it was, could it? He moved, closing the distance until he could see more clearly. The sight that greeted his eyes took his breath away.

God, it is Dare from the mall. Crap, he’s one sexy beast. Even if he might be a serial killer.

Jax waved the poker at Dare. “What the fuck are you doing here?”

Dare huffed. “It’s a long story.” He eyed the poker dubiously. “Really, a poker? That’s your weapon of choice?”

Jax snorted. “I can clobber you with it if you try anything. Come on, dude. Tell me what the hell is going on. Are you that desperate to have coffee with me?”

Dare laughed, a little shakily. “‘Dude?’ You love that word. It’s pretty cute when you say it. And yes, I’m definitely partial to having coffee with you one way or another. But this wasn’t quite what I had planned.”

Jax blinked. His eyes felt gritty and sore and he had gunk bunging up one corner of his left eye. He reached up and rubbed it away softly. “How do you know I use the word ‘dude’ often?”

Dare gave a deep, indrawn breath. There was silence. Jax got the impression Dare had revealed something he wasn’t supposed to.

Jax grew impatient. “Are you going to tell me anything anytime soon? Because if not, I’ll call out for the owner of the house and he can call the cops, then we’ll get the story—”

“No, no police.” For the first time Dare sounded panicked. “God, you’re so damn feisty.”

Jax got the impression that wasn’t a problem for this man from his admiring tone. Jax’s groin warmed more. Now his dick was standing at half-mast and it was the last thing he needed if he did have to call on Randy.

I’m getting a hard-on for someone who broke into the house. Could shit get any weirder?

“So, what’s the story, Mr Dark and Sexy? Do you actually have one or are you just an opportunistic burglar making something up?”

The chuckle that emanated from Dare’s mouth was low, and yes, still damn sexy.

“Really? You think I’m dark and sexy?” Dare’s face twisted into a grin. “I’m flattered. You’re something yourself.”

Jax went on the offensive. “Do you always hit on people whose houses you break into? What are you, like, the Flirty Burglar or something?”

Really? This god of a man thinks I’m something? And honestly—the Flirty Burglar. Face palm.

Ruthie☆☆☆☆
This is the seventh book in the series, and as the group of characters widens, we see other facets of life. This time it is the turn of Jax, the young friend of Tate's who was so badly injured in an attack by his stepbrother, that he has limited sight.

Jax has a secret admirer, Dare, who finally plucks up the courage to introduce himself, in a most unusual way. They then slowly develop a relationship which grows as they learn more about each other. It is affected by Jax's past, and both their insecurities – but good friends and stubbornness helps them through. I loved the tenderness and the care with which Dare showed Jax what it is to have a lover, and the restraint and acceptance of limits. It was beautifully written and I'm am guessing a reality for many couples, but not so often in books.

I look forward to seeing who gets the Ms. Mac Nicol treatment next!

Dawn☆☆☆☆☆
We met Jax back in Clay’s book and he had an impact, so I was excited for his book.

Dare spotted Jax when out picking flowers for his boss, it's all a bit stalker-ish.
But when they finally meet in person, sparks fly between them.
Jax has to get over the view he has of himself and what better way than with a man who sees nothing wrong with him.

I'm not going to lie, at points Jax drove me bloody crazy, but I had to keep reminding myself he is 18.

I really loved seeing Tate and Clay again in this book.

Can't wait for the next installment.

Angie☆☆☆☆
Seventh book in a great series. This was a sweet love story between Jax and Dare. While at times I couldn’t feel the connection between Jax and Dare, at other times the connection was off the chart. It was a story of building trust and a relationship, and wasn’t just all about the physical aspect, even though Jax was really aggressive and very straight to the point about what he wanted. It was good seeing Tate and Clay again in this story. I liked how Jax got some closure towards the end of the book, that part was very touching and showed how far Jax had come. I can’t wait to see who the next book is about.
