Shannan☆☆☆☆
3.5 STARS
I read this as a standalone without reading the first in the series. I didn't realize it was #2 until after I had finished but I had no problem following the storyline. Any mention of previous characters was explained so I didn't feel as though I was missing anything.

Josh Addison's boyfriend of five years walked out of his life and left him with a mortgage he can't afford and a cruise to go on by himself. What Josh didn't expect was to end up in the Captain's bed. Josh lets himself go, doing things he's never dreamed in bed, or in the boiler room, with Kane.

When Kane can't stop thinking about Josh and the sex they had, the first chance he has he flies to Anchorage to see him again. For Kane, it's nothing more than spending his time off the ship having some fun and great sex. For Josh is something else completely. Josh showed his hand on the ship when he dropped the L word, can he protect his heart even further knowing their reunion will be short lived? Will Kane realize he wants more than random hook-ups while on ship?

The Captain's Beloved drew me in, I had to know what happened between Josh and Kane especially when Drew, Josh's ex, pops back up wanting him back. I have to say though, Josh's insecure, whiny, flip flop, attitude had me wanting to slap him. Kane wasn't without fault either in the scheme of things, but Josh grated on my nerves.

I did enjoy the read and will look for more from this author.

I had enjoyed the first in the series (The Captain's Man), so I really wanted to read this – and I was very happy to find that it was even better, possibly because it was on Josh's home turf.

Josh experiences everyone's dream when he comes home from work to find his holiday love on his doorstep. And although Kane protests that he is there to scratch an itch – the man must have had hives, as he certainly does plenty of scratching!! – he is soon fully immersed in Josh's world. I love the juxtaposition of Kane being all alpha male and dominant, followed by next day being in an apron and cooking dinner. It was fun watching him fall properly, and the hot, dirty sex contrasted well with domestic bliss. There is no doubt that there is a full menu of sex on offer, and these guys have the most amazing stamina – but as a reader, I was not complaining! I also liked that we got to see Freddie and Eric again, and they even got a taste of the lead men at last.

I recommend that you read these in order, and ideally whilst in a private place, with an iced drink to hand. Thank you Ms. Blackwell!

The Captain’s Man by Scarlet Blackwell

The captain always goes down with his ship…

Josh is left heartbroken and lacking self-esteem when his partner leaves him for another man. He has to take a two-week Mediterranean cruise on his own and it’s a good job his crazy neighbors, Erik and Freddie, are there to take him in hand and make him realize his true potential.

There’s another man who recognizes Josh’s obvious worth, too—the guy in charge of the ship, Captain Kane Kessler. A six-feet-two Adonis with a body just made for sin.

But Josh doesn’t want a fling and flings are what Kane specializes in when he’s working. Nevertheless, the two instantly collide—a meeting of like minds and desperate bodies. While Josh tries to come to terms with the fact that he will be another notch on the captain’s bedpost at the end of the holiday, Kane begins to realize two weeks might not be enough to get everything he needs from Josh…

Reader Advisory: This book contains scenes of auto-fellatio and voyeurism/exhibitionism.

I find this quite a difficult book to review. I liked the premise, and the outcome, but there were, for me, bits which really seemed cruel. Actually a couple of times I felt really sad for both the main characters because they were on such a yoyo ride. The captain is definitely hot, but vacillates from being standoffish to overtly affectionate. It is a short holiday romance on a cruise ferry, and it could be more ... in both ways – read it and you'll see what I mean.

Stand & Deliver by Scarlet Blackwell

When Lucien Mayer is held captive by dangerous but seductive highwaymen, does he escape, or does he give in to his heart’s desire?

Lucien, Earl of Ravensberry, has the looks, the title, the house and all the money in the world. What he’s lacking in his humdrum life of loneliness is someone to warm his sheets at night. When he’s kidnapped by five highwaymen one night, things start looking up. This is the most exciting thing to happen to him in forever.

But Lucien’s life is in danger. Dante, the tough, self-appointed leader of the band, doesn’t have a lot of time for captives and vows to kill him—after he’s used Lucien’s body as he desires. Then there’s Ambrosius, Dante’s best friend, a damaged, reclusive individual who appeals to Lucien from the outset. The feeling is mutual, and Lucien is soon braving a whirlwind of emotions. He had never thought to fall for an outlaw, and he is torn between escaping and satisfying the needs of his heart. All he knows is, life will never be the same again…

Reader Advisory: This book contains explicit scenes of M/M sex and ménage a trois.

Reminding me immediately of the Adam and the Ants song, I could not resist this book – and I was really pleased with what was a fun frolic back in time. Lucien is a rather sad and lonely man who is catapulted into a den of highwaymen, and finds himself ... in a most delectable and decadent manner. Very enjoyable, down and dirty as well as somehow deep and meaningful. Not one to usually read much historical romance, this is a good one of the genre.
