Never Say Never by Felice Stevens Release Blitz

One taste leaves them wanting more…

INGREDIENTS:
Francisco “Frisco” Martinelli. Hot and spicy. Beautiful on the outside, dark and damaged on the inside. Handle with extreme caution.
Salvatore “Torre” Rossi. Sweet with a kick of spice. Gentle at first, can become swiftly and irrevocably addictive to the heart.

A RECIPE FOR ROMANCE
One snobby food critic who doesn’t believe in love
One down-to-earth food blogger who does
Add a touch of suspicious brother
A heaping serving of best friend who’s been waiting for this to happen

Blend with secret identities, past hurts, and judgments.
Stir in equal portions of desperate longing, desire, fear, and snarky humor.
Set over open flame, step back, and wait for sparks to fly.
Serve as is for an explosive love story that will leave you with a full heart and a ridiculously happy smile at the end.

This is the third book in the Lost in New York series but can be read as a standalone.

This was a sweet book. Did it start out sweet? No, not really, but after a while you could tell deep down, Frisco was a sweetie. Torre and Frisco have both been screwed over by past lovers, one worse than the other. These two hit it off the moment they set eyes on each other, but there's lots to learn and figure out. It was a sweet love story that unfolded. We see characters from previous books in the series and I enjoyed Torre’s family. There were some super hot sex scenes too! Just a tad of drama and daily struggles but they made for a good story. Highly recommend.

This is the third book in a really excellent series. Do make sure that once you finish this one, you read on so that you get a bonus which ties them all together perfectly. I would recommend that you read them in order, as you would have a better understanding of Frisco in particular.

I think I would describe Frisco as prickly, defensive, and loyal only to his best friend, Presley. We have met him before and he is unlikely to have any big fans, but by the end of this book, I definitely understood him better, and maybe forgave him some of his excesses – obviously he also changed his position on Never pretty significantly!

Torre is an up and coming food blogger who has been really annoyed by the cruel and rude reviews given by food critic, Francisco Martinelli. Torre challenges Martinelli's boss to make him try restaurants outside the city centre and to be less elitist. Cue Frisco turning up to do a review incognito at Torre's brother's place. The rest is, as they say, history, but I do not intend to reveal any more. Stevens does a brilliant job of making this story very engaging, funny, sweet, and moving.

As in all the books in this series, I highly recommend a tissue, and consider where you are when you read it, in case you do tear up. Thank you, Felice Stevens, for a really satisfying read, with some delightful culinary moments as an added bonus to a passionate and wonderfully romantic novel.

The Promise by Felice Stevens

A promise made:

When Ezra Green sits next to Monroe Friedman in their high school English class, friendship blooms into first love, and even Ezra moving to California won’t keep them apart. Ezra promises Roe that once he finishes college, he’ll come home and the two will be together. In the meantime they’ll write and keep in touch. Nothing has to change.

A promise broken:

After months of unanswered letters, Roe makes one final attempt to contact Ezra with disastrous results. Ezra will never be his and he needs to move on. Now, more than twenty years later, Ezra has come home. He doesn’t know why Roe stopped writing, but he’s determined to find out. But Roe won’t talk to him and Ezra doesn’t understand why. After all, Roe is the one who cut off contact. Isn’t he?

The promise of what is meant to be:

When Roe’s beloved grandmother suffers a stroke, the past becomes the present, and Ezra comes up with a plan. Pretending to be together to make an old lady happy should be no big deal, but after an unexpected explosive night together, decades-old secrets and lies are exposed, shattering Roe’s control and Ezra’s heart. Is first love only a dream and a promise merely words, or are Ezra and Roe meant to last a lifetime?

Man oh man. This book gave me the feels. Ezra and Roe were young and in love. Life happens and things don't turn out as expected or planned. When seeing each other and given another chance years later, things aren't easy. This book brought so much emotion out of me. Ezra and Roe had to work and work hard, but man, it was a nice journey to read. This author knows how to give me the feels!

Ruthie☆☆☆☆
This is the second book in the series, and they are linked but can be read separately. In both books, Stevens gives us beautiful stories about love, loss, and chances that can be taken to recover. Family is all important and the men have to believe that they are worthy, lovable, and can trust again.

Ezra has super successful parents who didn't really find him being gay fitted into their plans for him. Age 17, he is taken across the country from New York to LA and leaves his boyfriend, Roe, behind with promises to keep in touch. Sadly – and we discover why much later – they lose touch and we meet them again 23 years later, with Ezra back in New York.

The road to get these two back together is not going to be easy, but Felice Stevens has written another beautiful, gentle, considered, and intense love story which I thoroughly enjoyed. I knew I was in for a big treat, and in fact, just hid away and read it cover to cover today! Food for the soul, for sure.

I am actually not going to tell you much more, but I promise you will soon be wishing Nettie well, hoping that Carmen and Amy get through to Monroe, and that Ezra finally stands up to his folks!

Enjoy...

“Are you married?”

His brows drew together. “Married? No, why?”

I pointed to his hand. “Your ring. I thought it was a wedding band.”

A wistful smile tipped his lips. “No. It belonged to a friend.” He gazed down at it and twisted the thin braided gold band around and around. “He died.”

Pain as sharp as a knife jab twisted inside. “I’m sorry. It sounds like you were very close.” A lover, I supposed, and my heart seized with jealousy. I must be fucking crazy to feel like this. I was an adult, not a high-school kid anymore. Yet I still wanted to know about this man who obviously meant so much to him, but Ezra had become tight-lipped and didn’t seem to want to elaborate.

“We were, yeah.”

His lips pressed together, and I waited for him to speak further, but he remained frustratingly silent. My annoyance spiked. “Asking again, what are you doing here? If you want to forget the past, why not make a clean break and wipe me from your memory?”

Like you did when you left.

But I wouldn’t say that out loud. It was stupid for a forty-year-old man to still be hurt about events more than two decades old.

“Roe, come on.” He took my hand in his, and the shock to my system from his touch woke me up as if I’d been sleeping for years. “I-I thought we could be friends. I don’t know many people in the city, and it gets lonely.” Smooth fingers rubbed against mine. Goddamn, it felt so good.

“You? Lonely? A big-time agent in Hollywood? I’m sure you have millions of friends coast to coast. All you need to do is pick up the phone, and you’re set.” I tried to pull my hand from his, but he held firm.

“They don’t know me.”

“And I do, not seeing you all these years?” I couldn’t believe he had the gall to say that crap to me. “You’re being ridiculous.” Yet I couldn’t pull away.

“No. I’m not.” His thumb played over the top of my hand, and tingles shot through me despite my reluctance. “My industry is so fake; people say what they want to get who they want. It can get so lonely. I’ve never connected with anyone the way I did with you.”

I could tell him about loneliness. Long, dark nights wishing I could talk to him, but the few times we tried, it was awkward with my parents around, and… well, it wasn’t easy to talk about how we felt, so we agreed to write. And for a while we did, but then the letters dwindled to nothing. Endless years where finances, school, and work prevented me from traveling to California to surprise and eventually confront Ezra. If he’d wanted me, he’d have made the effort, my pride argued with my heart. He had the means to pick up and go wherever he desired. There had been other men for me, of course, but the affairs had led nowhere.

The phone rang, but I let it go to voice mail. All the broken pieces of the past floating around in my head paralyzed me.

I didn’t say anything. I couldn’t. I’d turned into a solid block of ice and could barely breathe. Maybe it was a delayed reaction to the slight hangover from last night’s two beers. The intensity of Ezra’s eyes captured me, drawing me in like I was his prey. I felt devoured whole. I shivered, goose bumps rising on my arms as if his lips had touched my sensitive skin.

“Roe,” he whispered and tugged my hand.

With my brain on hold, I swayed toward him and fell into his mouth, my body lighting up the moment Ezra’s lips found mine. He grabbed my face, and I dug my hands into the thick of that glorious head of hair and pulled him close. I drank him down as if parched, as if I’d been traveling through a desert for years. His kiss flowed through me, watering my dried-up soul.

Ruthie☆☆☆☆
4.5 stars of absolute goodness

I am delighted to have had the opportunity to read this first book in a new series – and will definitely be looking out for future installments. After all, at some point Frisco needs to find 'the one' too (please!).

Young Presley made a bad mistake a decade ago when he fell for Jared, who paid him lots of attention, except in public, as he was married. Dying in a car crash, Jared left Press deep in a rut of grief and despair. His best friend Frisco has finally persuaded him to go to a grief group, where his whole life is turned right way up – thanks to fellow member Nate.

Of course, there are some pretty big mountains of truth facing both men, as they find a way to let go of their grief and anger, and learn that no one is blameless. Their immediate attraction is both a blessing and a curse, as both of them need more than a hook-up, but aren't really sure they want the danger of opening themselves up to feelings. Nate's previous solution was meaningless hook-ups and Presley's was absolute celibacy (for 6 whole years!), so they need to work out how to behave now.

I loved that Press ran his own antique shop, and enjoyed the details, which were just enough to be interesting but never too much. It gave us a good impression of Press being his own man, successful enough, even if not moneyed. He is, however, lonely and in need of living. Nate comes from money and is a successful lawyer – he is also lonely but needs to live less and love more.

A really good story with some very steamy scenes, as well as some difficult decisions having to be made. Thank you, Felice Stevens, and I really am looking forward to book two.

Angie☆☆☆☆
I stayed up all night just so I could finish this book. I didn't want to go to sleep before finding out how it ended. The author has a way for bringing you into the story, so you feel like you are living it at the same time the characters are. Presley and Nate both have issues to work out, each one needing to move forward but having a hard time. I immediately fell in love with Nate but had a hard time liking Presley at first, due to my personal feelings about cheating. This book grabbed me from the first chapter and didn't want to let me go. There were some steamy scenes and lots of pulling on the heartstrings. This book was a great start to a new series, and I can't wait to see who is in the next book.

I have always been a romantic at heart. I believe that while life is tough, there is always a happy ending around the corner, my characters have to work for it, however. Like life in NYC, nothing comes easy and that includes love.

I live in New York City with my husband and two children and hopefully soon a cat of my own. My day begins with a lot of caffeine and ends with a glass or two of red wine. I practice law but daydream of a time when I can sit by a beach somewhere and write beautiful stories of men falling in love. Although there is bound to be a few bumps along the way, a Happily Ever After is always guaranteed.
