Hard-Riding Cowboy by Stacey Kennedy

Megan Harrison is the owner of Kinky Spurs. She’s mortgaged up to her eyeballs and works long days and nights, but she’s living life on her terms, not on her wealthy father’s. She’s done being in the cattle rancher’s shadow. She’s got it all figured out, except for the part that involves Nash Blackshaw. He’s a sexy as hell cowboy whose smile can easily charm her out of her tight jeans. The only problem is—their fathers were business rivals, and Megan and Nash have been taught to hate each other since birth.

Nash Blackshaw, a retired professional bull rider, has responsibilities on top of responsibilities. With his PBR career over due to back injury, and his focus narrowed on heading up the Blackshaw Cattle Company’s Guest Ranch, he shouldn’t have time to think about all the ways he wants Megan. But it’s all he thinks of around the sassy and sweet woman. She might be forbidden to him, but Nash wants to take her for a hard, kinky ride.

But small towns have a way of spreading gossip like wildfire, and not everyone is happy about their relationship. Especially when Megan drops a bombshell on Nash after one heated night between them. As much as Megan and Nash want to forget the old feud between their fathers and lose each other in explosive passion, they can’t escape reality. They are meant to be enemies, and Nash’s sizzling, dominant touch might not be enough to keep them together.

M/F Romance

Nash is the hard-headed, somewhat off-kilter brother. However, he would die before letting his family down and knows that his ranch is the only thing that's keeping his family land in their hands. He knows that he has to make it work, but his hatred runs deep. When things start to go wrong at the ranch, he knows exactly who is responsible – proving it may be the end of his relationship though.

Megan has always had a thing for Nash. He was the bad boy of the group and she loved him despite his hatred for her family. When she has a hot and heavy encounter with Nash, what she doesn't expect is to fall even more for him. Megan knows that her father would have a fit if he knew that she had fallen for Nash, but she can't help what her heart feels.

Megan and Nash have to figure out a way to love and have their own family, all while juggling the issues that surround their love.

I like that Nash and Megan complement each other personality wise. I wished that more was resolved when it came to Megan and her dad. I thought that it was somewhat left undone, especially given the animosity between the families. Otherwise, it was a sweet ending to this series. I loved all of the characters and am sad to see this series end.

This is the third book in the series and I would definitely recommend that you read these in order, so that you understand the background to the feud. You will also get to meet the Blackshaw family and enjoy the development of the previous relationships.

Nash is lost, no longer a World champion, invalided out and with no goals in life – but he never stopped having a thing for Megan Harrison, daughter of the family nemesis, Clint. At Chase's wedding, the two of them agree to one night of passion, which has an unintended consequence. Slowly we see Nash learn what is truly important, and how his future finally has some shape.

The journey is not smooth, with some pretty difficult events affecting the Blackshaw ranch, but Megan is offering Nash a life which suddenly has meaning, so he will do all he can to make her happy.

There are also some wonderfully humorous and happy moments. I loved Megan training Gus, and the food table moment. The kittens added both fun and cuteness, and the horses gave Nash a view to his possible working purpose. All in all, a lovely read, and I was really sad when I reached the end.

Sweet-Loving Cowboy by Stacey Kennedy

From USA Today bestselling author Stacey Kennedy comes the next riveting and sexy addition to the Kinky Spurs series, Sweet-Loving Cowboy.

Harper McKinney finished culinary school with big dreams. Right now, she’s a bartender at Kinky Spurs. While she’s content with her life, her brother is determined that she make a name for herself, because he wants her far away from what he deems a trashy bar. But Harper refuses to go anywhere. She’s in love with her brother’s best friend, Chase Blackshaw, and that love is keeping her in River Rock.

After the death of Chase’s father, he’s the one responsible for running the construction of the Blackshaw Cattle Company’s guest ranch. Back in the day, he had dreams of opening a construction company, but lack of finances kept him working for the family’s cattle ranch. Now with the responsibility of his family’s guest ranch on his shoulders those dreams seem far away. Though he has bigger problems. His build is failing the inspections.

Now Chase has more trouble on his hands. Harper, the woman he’s forbidden to ever touch has decided to move to Las Vegas. She isn’t so little anymore, and Chase is finding her all too tempting. She’s also not shy about what she wants. Him. Naked. And giving her some sweet lovin’ in all the kinky ways he craves. But neither Chase nor Harper can anticipate the fate that awaits them if they dare give in to their desires, as Chase soon learns there is something far worse than not being able to live out his dreams. It’s being given the chance to live out his dreams but having to watch Harper lose hers.

M/F Romance

This is the second story in this series. You do not need to read book one to understand book two, but it was a cute read.

Harper is back and loves living near friends and family. Her dreams are big, and she is still wanting to follow them, but the lure of love is a big one and she's not sure if she wants to compromise. While she is waiting to see if her love life will pick up, she makes sure that her friends are happy and that she is still cooking up a storm. She also has some guilt over what her brother gave up in order to help her after their parents died. She just wants him to be happy without feeling any obligation.

Chase is working his tail off to get the ranch open for business. He wants his work to showcase the new facility and it's his passion to do work that is worthwhile. He knows that Harper should be off limits and he allowed Brody, Harper's brother, to dictate a little of their pathway, but once he realizes that Harper is going to follow her dreams, he will take the last few days with her to make his dreams a realization. Chase has loved Harper from afar and it's now time to love her up close.

These two characters have a lot of history and it helps with their dynamic a lot. With Chase's business venture having some difficulty, Harper will enlist her own prowess and figure out a way through. Chase also doesn't want to inhibit Harper's dreams either, but letting her go is proving harder than he thought.

Both of these people have to decide if dreams are worth the risk – personally and professionally. It was a sweet story and I enjoyed it.

Mary Jo☆☆☆☆
Harper and Chase's relationship took a long time to get started and when then they began, they agreed it would only be for eight days. Then Harper was to follow her dreams by going to Las Vegas and studying under one of the best chefs in the city.

Chase wants her to follow her dreams and see her succeed even it means that means he has to give his dream – which is loving Harper.

As their time runs out, Harper begins to think harder and harder about what exactly is her dream.

I enjoyed the way that Harper faced the music with her brother and finally decided to live her dream and not anyone else's.

This is the second book in the series, and follows the fortunes of Chase Blackshaw. I would recommend that you read book one first as it sets up the background story to the Blackshaw brothers and their mission to save the family ranch.

Chase is following his dream of starting his own construction company by building the new ranch guest buildings. But everything comes to a halt when the inspector fails certain elements. As the issues are incredibly petty, it seems difficult to believe that this is a genuine inspection, and the Blackshaws seek to find out why it has happened. This stirs up a number of issues which we learned about in the first book, but with some unexpected results.

In the meantime, Harper is also finally accepting that she needs to chase her dream of a restaurant in Vegas, as Chase does not seem prepared to make a move. Little does she know that he is respecting his best friend, her brother, Brody's wishes. Once a deadline is set though, all bets are off and Chase makes his move. I both liked their final acceptance of the heat between them, but also that Harper got to think about why Vegas was important to her and what leaving really meant.

Houdini also deserves a special mention in this review as he was both sweet, fun, and utterly perfect as a fur grandbaby!

3.5 stars rounded up to 4 stars

Emma has exiled herself to her late grandmother's farm after quitting her job after her former boss and lover had thrown her under the bus for their romance. He had let his boss talk about her and insinuated that her promotion was due to their affair.

Shep Blackshaw likes the look of Emma, the new waitress at the Kinky Spur. He's not sure what the city girl is doing in Colorado or how long she's staying at her grandmother's farm, but he knows he wants to get to know her better and once he does, he doesn't want her leave.

The characters in this book are well written and the sparks between them jump off the page. Both Shep and Emma are complex characters and both are dealing with issues that affect more than just themselves.

M/F Romance

Emma is hurting after giving her heart to someone she thought was in a relationship with her that was equal. After learning that it wasn't equal, or on the same level that she thought it was, she was heartbroken. Throw that on top of the fact that her grandmother has passed away and she's kind of a mess. Emotionally, she is jumbled. She is a city girl living on a ranch and trying to take care of animals, which she doesn't really know how to do. When she is working at the local bar, she is able to put on a brave face and interact with the locals.

When Shep walks in and sees Emma, he knows that despite everything that's on his plate, he wants to put Emma on there too. His father has left him kind of a mess and it's up to him and his brothers to figure out whether or not the business that has been in their family for a while is worth saving or if they should sell and get out.

Shep and Emma have sparks that mesh well together. They intrigue each other and perplex each other in equal measure. While their communication isn't stellar, it helps create the complexities in the story. Both have things that they need to work through, but it's only together that they will become their best versions of themselves.

Ruthie☆☆☆☆
This is the first book in a new series, and I have no doubt that there are more great stories to come. We are immersed in the Colorado cowboy scene from the very beginning, and it took no time at all to be centred in the location, with the key protagonists, and keen to learn more.

Emma has had her world turned upside down and as we learn how and why, it is clear that she had a lucky break that she had to come to her Gram’s farm and regroup. She is a young woman who has worked so hard for her ambitions that she has rather forgotten the beauty of the simple things, and being back where she spent her summer holidays is teaching her again. Irrespective of the wonderful romance, I found this hiatus in her rushing around to be very well written, and even when Jake looks to be about to ruin everything, she proves that she has learned the lessons about trust, love, and home.

Shep is pretty much the perfect man – certainly for Emma – and whilst he is reluctant to admit that she is his perfect woman, even to himself, he also behaves with great charm and honesty. The connection that they make is strong and true – and comes from their battered hearts.

I enjoyed the business elements, although it seemed difficult to believe that they were all so oblivious of the state of the farm business, but I enjoyed how it was turned around, and had no doubt that Emma's skills would be engaged in the revival. The two other brothers, who will no doubt get their chance at love, are very different to Shep, so it is going to be fun watching them fall... especially Nash, as he needs bringing down a peg or two!

If you enjoy hot, sexy cowboy romances, then this will be just your thing. If you have not tried one before, then this would be a good place to start!
