The Gentle Dom by Sean Michael

When one of their own is threatened, the men of the Iron Eagle Gym will stand together and prove they are stronger as a family.

Stuntman Barclay Drambor suspects his fall from a roof was no accident. He believes his abusive ex was responsible, but he can’t prove it. Fortunately, a year has gone by with no word from Duncan, letting Barclay move on with his life—and that means dealing with the aftermath of his injuries. He finds personal trainer Reece “Rec” Gordon through a member of the gym, and it’s not long before their workouts together become much more intimate. Rec is gentle and goes out of his way to make Barclay comfortable, and in no time there’s talk of moving in together…

But just as Barclay is healing and finding a place to belong, Duncan returns to destroy his happiness. Though Duncan will learn he’s messing with the wrong group of men, in the end, Barclay must face him. Will Rec’s love and the friendship of the others at the gym give him the confidence to stand up for himself?

I enjoyed this addition to the series. Rec was so sweet and so careful with Barclay it made my heart melt. In true Sean Michael fashion, there is a lot of sex and a lot of encouragement and praise for Barclay. When Barclay’s ex shows up, the gym members unite and make sure everyone is safe. There were two things that bothered me about this book. One was how things ended up with the ex, I think it wrapped up too easily. Second was that Barclay hadn't achieved his goal by the end of the book. Maybe it will be addressed in the next book?

This is more a story about Barclay "B" finding a place in life now that he has more physical difficulties than it was about love, for me. It was having Rec help him find his center again. After he was unable to work, he didn't really know what was left for him. Rec helped him find a confidence that he lacked when Duncan, his previous partner, liked to abuse him.

There was a lot of connecting in this story between Rec and B, however, I felt that it was more of a friendship or friends with benefits than a true relationship. While it started professionally, it quickly digressed to them having a physical relationship.

I thought that the characters could have used a little more development and I wish that more of the crew from previous books had been included. Overall, there was more power exchange and less relationship interaction.

Often referred to as “Space Cowboy” and “Gangsta of Love” while still striving for the moniker of “Maurice,” Sean Michael spends his days surfing, smutting, organizing his immense gourd collection, and fantasizing about one day retiring on a small secluded island peopled entirely by horseshoe crabs.

While collecting vast numbers of vintage gay pulp novels and mood rings, Sean whiles away the hours between dropping the F-bomb and pursuing the Kama Sutra by channeling the long-lost spirit of John Wayne and singing along with the soundtrack to Chicago.

A longtime writer of complicated haiku, currently Sean is attempting to learn the advanced arts of plate spinning and soap carving sex toys. Barring any of that? He’ll stick with writing his stories, thanks, and rubbing pretty bodies together to see if they spark.

I have read all the books in this series, but this can be read as a standalone. In true Sean Michael fashion, this book is full of sex, love, and tenderness... oh, and piercings. LOL. Robin left Stack eight months ago and has been just getting by ever since. A chance encounter brings them back together. Stack and Robin have a lot to work out and it seems like everything is trying to make that not happen, but they soldier on. These two guys are lovable, and you can feel the love they have for each other. This was a fast read filled with hot sex, lots of love, and low angst.

You really need to read The Closet Boy before reading this book, you will get so much back story to Neal and Way. I love this series and Neal and Way are such a sweet couple. Neal and Way have decided to give the Dom/sub lifestyle a try. Way is still hesitant on a lot of things even though he really loves all of them and wants more; he is just still used to his past and everything being wrong and evil. I love how patient Neal is with Way, they are so good together. In true Sean Michael style, there is tons of sex and lot and lots of love. We do get to see characters from other books as well. Sweet love story, which I devoured in a short time. Can't wait for the next book in the series.

Okay, so I hate to say this, but I really couldn't connect with these characters or this particular book in the series. I just never really felt that Way and Neal had a great connection.

It was a lot of sex and a lot of them talking, but I never really saw the connection that the other couples were able to achieve.

I also felt that this was very underdeveloped. I'm not sure if it was because we had seen these characters in previous books, but this was more about sex than the connection between Dom and sub.

The Closet Boy by Sean Michael

Way’ra Bernard is only twenty years old when his parents kick him out of the house. He has been brought up to believe being gay is wrong and he is going to go to hell for it. He tried very hard not to be gay but couldn’t change the way he felt. Now he’s living furtively in a closet on the third floor of the place he’s working as a janitor—the Iron Eagle Gym.

Neal McPherson is an unattached Dom in his midtwenties and a member of the gym. One evening after working out, he notices Way’ra on the stairs and he’s immediately attracted and intrigued, so he asks Way’ra out. Unable to come up with a reason to refuse and also interested in Neal, Way’ra accepts.

There are a lot of obstacles to the relationship they attempt to build after their date, not least of which is Way’ra’s upbringing and his lingering doubts about the kinky sex Neal enjoys. But with patience and persistence, Neal might convince Way’ra not only to accept himself, but to loosen his inhibitions enough to explore and find a happy ending together.

I couldn’t wait to read this book and I wasn’t disappointed. I love this series. Way was kicked out of his house for being gay, and he had nothing but the clothes on his back and a little money he got out of the ATM before his dad locked him out of the account. Neal is a dom and a member at the Iron Eagle Gym, where Way found a job. When Neal sets eyes on Way, he is smitten. These two are so good together and Neal is so patient and kind with Way. Way is so scared of things and so inexperienced, but he wants everything with Neal. I kept waiting for something horrible to happen, there was just a little hiccup, but nothing huge and I was glad for it because it was such a sweet, loving story I didn’t want anything to ruin the vibe it had.

This is the third book that I've read in this series, and while I have enjoyed them all, this one was different than the rest. This was more gentle, less about the BDSM and more about coaxing what could be, out of the characters.

Neal is just a regular member of the gym, but the janitor, Way'ra, has caught his eye. Not only is this shy kid good at working, but he's beautiful in a very nonconventional way. I do wish that we were able to learn more about Neal's past – it seemed that this book focused so much on the relationship between Neal and Way that that's all we really had.

Way'ra has had a rough start. He was not accepted by his friends or family when it was discovered that he was gay. Not only was he kicked out of school, but he was cut off financially and so he had been staying at the gym, hoping to earn enough money cleaning up to rent his own place. He's shy, unsure, lacks confidence, and hopes to someday, be able to have a real relationship without the fear.

Like I said before, this was so much about coaxing Way out of his preconceived notions – but the little exposure that Way had at the gym was explained and Neal was very understanding and patient. This book was sometimes a little long winded, but overall, the story flowed nicely. And, while this didn't have a lot of explicit encounters, the connection that Neal and Way develop is very realistic.

I like this series a lot and I think that it shows a great deal of variety within the lifestyle.

The Luckiest Master by Sean Michael

When Master Damien Richardson (Day to his friends) takes over the front desk manager job at the Iron Eagle Gym, he knows he’s going to need an assistant. But finding the right person for the job is harder than he thought it would be. When he meets Saw, he thinks he’s found the solution to all his problems, and maybe something more.

Sawyer Whitehead lost his master to a tragic car accident some years ago, and since then one opportunity after another has gone sour on him. Thoroughly convinced he’s cursed and a jinx to everything and everyone he touches, he refuses to officially become Day’s assistant because he knows that as soon as he does, something terrible will happen. He’s even more determined not to get involved with Day, despite his attraction, because it would kill him to be responsible for tragedy befalling the lovely man.

Day must convince Saw that he’s not cursed and that together, they can face any challenge that comes their way—in both their professional and personal partnerships.

This book and series is right up my alley. Lots and lots of sex! The chemistry between Day and Saw is off the charts, and the love and respect they have for each other is amazing. Saw doesn’t like to commit to anything because he feels he is bad luck. Day has always wanted a boy to love and care for. These two tiptoe around and flirt like crazy for months before they actually make things official, and once they do it is off the charts hot. There is a little drama but nothing too much. I can’t wait to see what happens in the next book, the preview has me excited!

This is the third in the series – but the first that I have read. I found it okay to read as a standalone, although I am sure that there were some continuity issues which I did not notice.

I liked the story, and the way that it delved into the issues that Sawyer had with believing he caused bad luck – I thought Day dealt with them effectively and imaginatively. There was a good length of time where these two skirted around these things and also about how attracted to each other they were, but once they opened Pandora's box...well it never closed again! It was definitely sexy, although even more exploration into possible kinks would have been fun. The only thing that did annoy me a bit was the repetition of the term Master – a bit like some books overdo babe, or baby, here Master appeared 10 plus times on a page repeatedly, and in a way lost value.
