Bad Penny by Jocelyn Adler

Penny is happy, settled…and in a rut. A dominatrix in San Francisco for the last ten years, she has a great roommate, a fascinating job, a big comic book collection, and not too much else. But she’s happy enough, and change is so hard… Too bad that, whether she likes it or not, change is coming.

Her asexual best friend and landlord wants kids…with her, preferably. Her favorite client is getting married and moving on. She might go on a date for the first time in... well, a long time. And if that wasn’t enough, her boss has decided she’s management material.

Suddenly Penny needs to decide what she truly wants in her life. Kids? Romance outside of the workplace? A—heaven help her—management position?

It’s enough to make a girl want to flip a coin.

I like Penny for the most part. I found her likeable enough as a main character, but never did love her character. She does have some humorous thoughts and she's sweet and geeky, but I wasn't finding her super dominating. She sees a therapist, there's hints at some troubled past, but it never really gets delved into in this book. Her job as a dominatrix could have been more interesting, I think; it seemed to get too technical and a little more into the psychology end of dominance/submission aspects. I wanted to get into her sessions, but they lacked the heat I wanted. She has some odd relationships with her asexual gay roommate and his straight (?) coworker, and I hope for more interesting liaisons in the future. Penny seems lost and lonely with some life choices needing to be made to further her character, I'm just not sure I found it interesting enough to keep reading.
