Shut Out by Kelly Jamieson

From the bestselling author of the Heller Brothers Hockey series comes the first novel of a new hockey romance series featuring a college team whose players are heating things up both on and off the ice.

The Bayard College hockey team isn’t where Jacob Flass thought he’d be a season ago. He was a rising star in the Canadian major junior league, cruising toward a spot on an NHL roster—until a single disastrous night on the town brought it all crashing down. Now he’s out of options, except for playing well, studying hard, and staying away from girls. He’s not supposed to be flirting with the hottest, sweetest chick he’s ever met. But how could he possibly stay away?

Skylar Lynwood knows that Jacob is out of her league. She’s just trying to go with the flow, which isn’t easy when six feet and four inches of total hockey hunkiness is making a play for her one moment, then giving her the cold shoulder the next. Skylar’s head tells her that this rugged athlete isn’t worth her time, but her body says something altogether different. Risking her heart for Jacob may be the craziest thing she’s ever done...but she won’t let him shut her out.

Excellent start to what is definitely going to be a great series! This book sucked me in from page one and I didn’t want to put it down!

Jacob’s life is hockey, his main goal is joining the NHL and he’s well on his way, until one night changed everything. Jacob has been accused of the unthinkable and his school in Canada has kicked him out. Now, he’s being sent to the states with strict instructions to stay out of trouble. When his new teammates are finally able to convince him to go out to a party, he first lays eyes on the gorgeous Skylar Lynwood. Skylar’s goal in life is to prove to her parents that she’s as good as her doctor sister. She failed two classes the previous semester when one of her best friends committed suicide and now she can’t let anything distract her. When Jacob and Skylar meet, the sparks fly, but Jacob puts a stop to things out of fear of his past coming back to haunt him. Then Jacob realizes a fake girlfriend is just what he needs to keep other girls, as well as his friends, off his back – so he talks Skylar into the role, only things get a bit more serious than either of them intended.

I really enjoyed this fast-paced romance. Kelly Jamieson is quickly earning a spot as one of my go to authors for a great sports romance. I love how the author is able to find the perfect balance of steam and sports to keep us flipping the pages. I look forward to the next book in this series!

First off, who doesn't love that cover, yum! And you got to love a sports story. Now you know the saying, Being at the wrong place, at the wrong time.? Well Jacob Flass was at the wrong place and left, but still got into all kinds of trouble. He was part of the Canadian major junior league, and playing hockey was his life. So when he and a few other players were suspended from the team, the coaches helped Jacob get into a US college to help him get his shot at playing in the NHL. At the college, he had to go through a sex/rape course that the college is trying out and might use as a standard course for all incoming students in the future. While at a party, he meets Skylar Lynwood and he can't stop staring at her. He wants to get to know her better, but his past and his future are holding him back.

Skylar is part of the trainers for the course that Jacob has to attend and they are both surprised to see the other there. What surprises Jacob most is that Skylar is a great teacher and she keeps the course interesting for everyone, and that makes learning and understanding even easier. While Skyler tries to be Jacob's friend, she finds herself being pulled into more and her feelings are growing stronger.

Will Jacob tell Skylar about his past before she finds out? What will happen when Ella finds out what really happened between Skylar and Brendan? Will Jacob be able to stay out of trouble and finally get into the NHL?

This is a first for me from Kelly Jamieson and I loved this story, I only wish there would have been a little more or maybe another book coming with Skylar and Jacob. And I can't wait for more from this series.

Kelly Jamieson is the author of more than thirty contemporary romance novels. She’s a married mother of two who lives a very ordinary life outside of her imagination. She likes coffee (black), wine (mostly white), and shoes (high!). She also loves watching hockey.
