24/7 by J.A. Rock

We started the Subs Club to make the kink community safer for subs. Except now the others are so busy chasing their happy endings, it’s like they’ve forgotten what Bill did to Hal and the fact that he got away with it. They used to think I was betraying Hal’s memory by hooking up with the owners of the club where he died. Now they don’t seem to care about any of it anymore.

Maybe I am sometimes angry with GK and Kel for giving Bill a second chance, but they’ve been mentoring me for a year now, and whatever else they’ve done, they make me feel incredibly safe. So I want to try something: I want to offer them my complete submission, 24/7. To serve the people who forgave Bill. That’s the way I want to hurt.

Except I’m starting to care about them in a way I never meant to—and I think they feel the same way. But after Hal, I don’t know if I want to be in love again. Because what I really need, more than anything, is to see Bill brought to justice. Even if I have to do it myself. Even if it means losing GK and Kel.

I have to say for a lot of 24/7, I felt like was I missing the point. Like something important was happening, but I just didn't get it. Eventually I came to the conclusion that Gould was using his relationship with Kel and Greg as a replacement for therapy. As they did scene after scene, I failed to connect with any of them. Even right up to the end, I didn't feel the connection that the three of them supposedly shared and I never really bought the idea that Greg actually wanted Gould.

The final 20% of the book where things get more dramatic and issues come to a head was really good, but for the most part I just didn't connect with this threesome. I'm happy that a fifth book in this series has been written and I look forward to reading it and spending more time with all of the members of The Subs Club.

Manties in a Twist by J.A. Rock

Look, I’ll never stop missing Hal, but this Subs Club my friends started to review suck-ass doms isn’t gonna bring him back or give him justice. For me, it’s just another chance to hang out with my friends, even if they think I’m too dumb to understand the important work we’re supposedly doing.

But maybe I’m not as dumb as they think—at least I know when I’ve got a good thing going. Which is why I just moved in with my dom. Ryan’s awesome possum. He’s really short, never makes me feel stupid, and is up for anything. One word: costumes. Two more words: women’s underwear. We’re all about the lace, no leather.

Except when we do pony play. We first tried it as a joke, but turns out I’m ballin’ at it. Now PetPlayFest is coming up, and I wanna take down the Subs Club’s archrival, Cinnamon the ponygirl, in the horse show.

My friends think I’m spending too much time with Ryan and ignoring my obligations to the group. But since when is friendship an obligation? Ryan’s my first serious relationship, and I want to take it... seriously. At some point I need to think about my future, not my past.

Kamen is the easy going member of the Subs Club with a big heart. He goes with the flow and often listens to those around him for advice. He moves in with his new boyfriend and dom, Ryan, and starts feeling like an adult, having a relationship, and making decisions.

When Kamen comes to realise his friend are not keen on Ryan, he struggles with how to integrate his new boyfriend into his social circle. Dave is particularly difficult and it causes problems.

Kamen and Ryan have a great relationship. The they are open minded and willing to try anything that takes their fancy, from wearing women's underwear and clothes to horse play to show up arch rival Cinnamon.

While there is a little bit of drama, I mostly found Manties in a Twist to be great fun. Kamen is so open and honest and has such a lust for life, and he has found his perfect match in Ryan. My advice when reading this book is sit back, open your mind and enjoy the ride.

Pain Slut by J.A. Rock

Honestly, I’m ready to take a step back from the Subs Club. Making the kink world a safer place for subs is the sort of bandwagon I’d have boarded as an idealist in my early twenties, but now I’m a pragmatist in my late twenties. I prefer to focus on adopting and raising a child.

But unexpected factors inevitably derail my plans. Like Drix Seger—attractive and the first genuine sadist I’ve encountered. If I were not in the process of renouncing my masochistic ways and becoming the normal, responsible potential father the adoption agency wants to see, Drix and I might do well together.

But he has a foolish name and belongs to a cult of vampyres, and I am quitting kink. So why does Drix’s infatuation with blood and biting make me so hot I can’t think straight? And why, when he looks at me, does he seem to see something beyond a basket case with a stick up my ass?

Can I start a new phase in my life without leaving part of myself behind? Please send help.

Veronica – ☆☆☆☆
Miles is a hard-core masochist. He is also desperate to be a father and is in the process of adopting a child. He thinks he needs to quit the BDSM world in order to be a parent and is struggling to reconcile how someone who loves pain can be a good dad.

When Miles goes on a date with Drix, he discovers he has found a sadist but not one who is in the BDSM world. Drix confesses that he lives as a vampyre and is part of a coven. Drix is all about connecting with people and living in the moment. In contrast, Miles is a planner, a worrier, and cautious.

Pain Slut shows that you can have hilarity in amongst your BDSM, life, and relationship dramas. Drix's living as a vampyre provides us with some hilarious moments, and the conversation Miles and his friends have when they learn about Drix had me crying with laughter. The guys from The Subs Club are a riot.

I really enjoyed the story Pain Slut had to tell, but the heavy scenes where pain was being inflicted on Miles, while interesting and educational, didn't really float my boat. But that is just personal preference. Still a great book. 4 stars.

The Subs Club by J.A. Rock

A year ago, my best friend Hal died at the hands of an incompetent “dom.” So I started the Subs Club, a private blog where submissives can review doms and call out the douche bags.

A perfect example of the kind of arrogant asshole I mean? The Disciplinarian. He has a pornstache. He loves meat, stoicism, America, and real discipline. And he thinks subs exist to serve him.

But... not everything about him is awful. His Davy Crockett act just seems like a cover for his fear of intimacy, and part of me wants to show him it’s okay to get close to people. And, I mean, sue me, but I have fantasized about real discipline. Not role-play, but like, Dave, you’re gonna be thirty in four years and you still work in a mall; get your ass in gear or I’ll spank it.

Not that I’d ever trust anyone with that kind of control.

I’m gonna redefine “battle of wills” for the Disciplinarian. Or I’m gonna bone him. It’s hard to say.

Veronica – ☆☆☆☆☆
I've had something of a love affair with m/m BDSM stories in 2016. I've read some wonderful stories and many have had warm, loving vibes of the strong, rich dom helping and rescuing the poor, young sub. So it was a surprise when I started The Subs Club and I found myself repeatedly laughing out loud over the antics and thoughts of opinionated, bratty sub David.

David, with the help of his mates, starts up a website called The Subs Club following the death of their friend Hal during a scene in a club. David's idea is to allow subs to rate and review doms, and have discussions on how to play safely. Anyone who has even been online can see this isn't going to go as well as David thinks it is.

While all this is going on, David takes an interest in a dom known as The Disciplinarian. The relationship between The Disciplinarian and David is a rocky one. The story is told entirely from David's point of view and I loved seeing the difference between the way David behaves, what he says he wants, and what he actually wants. We see the relationship and trust slowly grow between dom and sub, and what happens when things aren't going so well.

I was fascinated by the relationship between our dom and sub because they are so different. The story left me wanting much more of them and I was disappointed when it ended. I found The Subs Club thoroughly engaging and I plan on reading the rest of the series over the next month.

Slave Hunt by J.A. Rock

Thirty people. Two hours. Only the strong will survive.

When Riddle decides to put on a slave hunt, the Subs Club is on board. Tops hunting bottoms in the woods with paintball guns? Yes. Captives strung up on whipping posts, at the mercy of their captors? Hell yes.

But on the morning of the hunt, nothing’s going according to plan. Miles and Drix are at odds over Miles’s reluctance to move in together. Dave is determined to show up D, who thinks Dave won’t last two minutes in the woods. Gould finds himself torn between obeying his master’s orders and living out a longtime fantasy. And Kamen inadvertently becomes a double agent when he aligns himself with two different parties.

By the end of the hunt, alliances will be forged and broken, loyalties will be tested, relationships will be strengthened…and someone will barrel roll. Narrated by ten different characters, Slave Hunt tells the story of two hours in the woods that will change everyone forever. Or at least, remind them that love is the greatest victory of all.

Avid Reader – ☆☆☆☆
M/M, M/F/M, Dom – sub interactions
**This only has a minimal BDSM scene in the book, it is not like the other stories in this series**

First off, you should not read this story unless you have read the previous books in the series – you won't know the characters or their dynamic without doing so.

This was a fun read. It was a hunt between Doms and subs within their close knit group – it involved paint guns and whipping posts (only one was really used throughout the story) and it gave you some insight into each relationship.

I liked that you got to see the subs working together, apart, figuring out who to trust and who to run from. This was a somewhat truncated story, in that you jumped from character to character.

While the plot is self-explanatory, I think that this was a valuable addition to the series, despite it not being heavy on the relationships or sex. I think this "fun" game gave the reader more insight in to each pair, but on an individual level.

This was well developed and showed a great sense of imagination by Rock.

Angela – ☆☆☆☆☆
I have loved each book in this series – some more than others, but I’ve loved them all. There is a disturbingly real quality to the characters. They’re not perfect. They’re not the hottest guys ever. They’re not the most mature. They don’t have it all together. They don’t always make the best decisions. They’re conversations can be rather crude at times, but in the way that friends are comfortable talking about bodily functions with one another. Yet the core four who formed the original Subs Club – Dave, Miles, Kamen, and Gould – love each other in the way the closest of friends do. Even as each man found his perfect complement and the group grew, there were growing pains because they didn’t always understand what their friend saw in his soon-to-be partner or partners. Yet, for the most part, they remained supportive of one another.

Why am I telling you all this about the previous books in the series? So that I can stress why you really shouldn’t try to read Slave Hunt as a standalone. Strictly speaking, you may be able to enjoy it on its own. However, without having read the previous books, you’re going to miss out on a lot of the nuances in the relationships between the various characters. Yes, Rock does provide some contextual information as to who the characters are to one another, but I don’t think it’ll be enough for someone new to the series to appreciate the full impact of the discussions and incidents that take place in the book. There are conversations between the subs’ dominants that I never would have expected to take place. There’s a conversation between former play partners that help the sub realize that it’s not too late to make another life altering decision. There’s a “punishment” scene that is anything but, and it was fascinating to watch as the sub found a balance that he rarely finds without humiliation. Epiphanies are had by both subs and doms, and it was awesome to see them occur as these characters have stuck with me despite the months that have passed since reading their books.

I was ecstatic when I learned that Rock had written another installment in The Subs Club series because I was sad when I read 24/7 as I wasn’t ready to say goodbye to the gang. Now that I’ve finished reading Slave Hunt I’m left with two feelings. The first, that I’m sad to say goodbye again. The second, that I really hope that Rock’s muse speaks up again next year and we get Slave Hunt 2017 or some other event that will allow me to return to Riddle and hang out with the guys and gals of The Subs Club.
