Claiming Felicity by Susan Stoker

Falling in love could expose a woman in hiding, in the fourth Ace Security novel from New York Times bestselling author Susan Stoker.

Former mercenary Ryder Sinclair’s stunning discovery that he has three half brothers in Castle Rock, Colorado, is giving them all the chance to color in the spaces of their tragic pasts. For Ryder, establishing roots is made all the more desirable by Felicity Jones. But if Ryder’s instincts are correct, this breathtaking beauty is in trouble.

Castle Rock isn’t Felicity’s home. Like her false identity, it’s just a cover. All she wants is enough cash to keep moving to another temporary hideaway—to stay on the run from a secret that’s haunted her for years. As safe as Ryder’s strong embrace makes her feel, she fears that falling for him, and staying in Colorado, will put everyone she’s come to love in danger.

The more Ryder learns about Felicity, the more determined he is not to let her go. It’s time for her to stop running—even as a relentless danger closes in, threatening their love and their lives.

Ryder and Felicity are an amazing duo. Both have seen much more in their lives than anyone should and despite seeing all of that, they are not afraid to love.

I really enjoyed Felicity's spirit. She was a tough woman and she fought fiercely for those she allowed into her inner circle. Despite her past, she has found people whom she loves and knows that she needs to protect them. The men of Ace Security have become her surrogate family and along with them, their wives and children too. I love how much they love her.

Ryder is new to the group and even though he is new, when he first sees Felicity, he can see her for who she is under her tough exterior. He knows that she's hiding and despite knowing that, he pursues her because there is something about her that calls to him and his protective nature.

Felicity does not make it easy on Ryder – she makes him work for her trust. Ryder also has to work to prove that he won't hurt her – prove to his brothers that he's there for good. When the danger draws even closer, they all pull together to figure out how they can protect each other.

I really enjoyed watching Ryder with his own friends and Felicity, as well as with his new family members. It was nice to see that underneath his rough exterior, Ryder is sensitive and knows how to woo Felicity.

I can't wait to see if more of these books come through.

This is the fourth book in the Ace Securities series and I am sad to see it end. But in the end, there is a new series coming that I cannot wait to read.

Felicity Jones is the strong BFF of Grace, she has been in Castle Rock for about five years. No one has questioned her about her past or her family. She seems to have her life in order until the day she wants the part of the money she gave Cole to help them start the gym. Why doesn't everyone start to question her why she wants to leave? She doesn't want to tell them her secret, she just needs to run before "HE" gets too close to her.

Ryder Sinclair comes to Castle Rock to get to know his half brothers. When he goes with his brothers to see what is going on with Felicity, he immediately knows she is running from someone. He wants to protect her, or he will die trying. He wants her to tell him why she wants or needs to run but he will not rush her to tell him. Ryder is beginning to have feelings for her that he has never felt before. He knows that he has to tell her about his past and maybe she will tell him what is going on with her.

Can Felicity trust Ryder to protect her and keep her friends safe? Will Ryder be able to keep her safe and let his brothers know he is there to help them keep everyone safe? In the end, will the Anderson triplets accept Ryder as their brother?

I love this series and I think Felicity and Ryder might be my favorite. I think you could read these as standalone stories, but I recommend reading them in order, that way you don't miss anything.

For the first time in a long time, Cara turned and went after what she wanted and believed with her whole heart that whatever happened was worth it, because letting this feeling go would be a loss she couldn’t live with and not regret the rest of her life. Her heart couldn’t shut off the dreams and possibilities she’d longed for once, lost, but wanted again. With Flash.

She stood in front of his door, stared at the grain in the wood, and sucked in a breath, found her courage, held up her hand to knock, but gasped and stepped back when Flash shoved the barn door aside and held a gun in her face. Again.

He immediately dropped it to his side and raked his free hand over his head. “Cara.” Her name came out on a relieved sigh that held an apology for pointing a gun at her for the second time in an hour. The relief turned to frustration. “What are you doing here? Go home.”

She dismissed the fact he opened the door armed, that he tried to send her away, his bare chest, even though she couldn’t stop staring at the wall of sculpted muscle, and unearthed the desire she’d buried long ago and unleashed it on him.

She closed the distance, went up on tiptoe, wrapped her arms around his neck, and locked her lips over his. Her body molded to his the second his arms wrapped around her and his hand landed on her ass. His fingers curled over the swell of her bottom and gripped tight, pulling her closer.

That spark between them flared to life as they kissed, his tongue sliding along hers. The ball of heat she carried low in her belly since she met him exploded through her system with every tempting taste of him. She wanted more and slid her fingers through his hair, held him close, angled her head to take the kiss deeper and gave herself over to him.

The flames flashed out the second he pushed her away and ordered, “Leave. Now.” He took two steps back, leaving her to catch her balance as he pulled his hands away from her shoulders. “Please.” The word came out strangled and forced from his throat.

She stared at him, wondering what she’d done. “What’s wrong?”

“This.” He held his hands out, realized he still had the gun in his hand, and tossed it onto the perfectly made bed. All she wanted to do was mess it up with him. She wanted him to let loose his reservations and kiss her again, because when they kissed nothing else mattered but the way they made each other feel.

“How can something that feels so right be wrong?” She didn’t get it. She didn’t understand why he’d kiss her the way he did, the way he wanted to kiss her, and say it was wrong.

The frustration in his eyes and the firm set of his lips came out in the angry swipe of his hand through his hair. “Damnit, Cara. This can’t happen.”

“Why? You want it. I want it. If we’re both willing…” She held her hands up in front of her like holding up an offering.

“I’m trying to spare you.”

That got her attention. She dropped her hands, cocked her head, and looked him dead in the eye. “What does that mean?” Because if he was sparing her a night in his arms, in his bed, and a chance to feel something as real as what she felt between them, she didn’t want or need his sacrifice. She just needed him.

“I’m not staying. As soon as I finish what I came here to do, I’m leaving. That hasn’t changed. It won’t change.”

Her heart cracked, the pain an echo of past hurts, but it didn’t change the fact that she wanted this. She would take tonight, however many nights Flash gave her, and be grateful for them, knowing that right now he wanted this as much as she did, but gave her the chance to back out and save her the pain and heartbreak she’d feel when he left.

She turned and went to the open door, feeling Flash stiffen behind her, hold his breath, and stare at her back everything in him wanting to call her back. That’s how close she felt to him, close enough to understand all he felt and feel it herself.

So she closed the door and turned back to him, knowing going in that this wasn’t forever but right now. Dreams of the future were wishes that may never come true, but right here, right now, she stood before a man she could have all those dreams with for tonight.

Moments like this were rare and sometimes never happened. She wouldn’t walk out on it because she couldn’t keep it. Instead she’d hold on to it, cupped in her hands like the precious gift it was and know that one day, maybe tomorrow, she’d have to let it go but it would always be a memory to savor, a piece of her heart that would remind her, once, she was loved.

Maybe not the forever kind of love she wanted, but loved enough to be told the truth.

A dab of this and a dab of that and you have a book with lots of elements that came together wonderfully.

Trying to dismantle a drug cartel, Dalton King spent five months in prison to create a cover story to fool even the stoutest doubter. Cara Potter is that person. She trusts no one, especially after the last person she trusted almost killed her.

As Dalton, aka Flash, gets to know Cara, he realizes she's the real victim in this war. She's tried to live a life outside her father's long shadow and somehow, she's always pulled back in. He realizes that she's doing what she can to limit her exposure to his way of life but knows that without her help, it may be impossible to put her father in prison for his crimes.

Cara knows that there's more to Flash than what he's telling. He's too smart, hardworking, etc. to get caught up in the drug racket, but she can't figure him out. Not to mention, her uncle is acting even more paranoid than usual.

This book took a lot of different strands and wove a story that kept me interested from the first chapter to the last, hating to put it down to even do my chores.

Arianna had relaxed quite a bit during our conversation. Her demeanor was casual as she played with the strap of her shoe. Her laugh came naturally. It was easy to pretend that we were still together as we sat there talking. Our arms were even touching. It sent a jolt of electricity down my spine to feel my skin against hers again. It felt like we were finally shifting, finally moving in the right direction. It was everything I’d hoped tonight would be.

After a brief pause in talking about our summer plans, Arianna pursed her lips and said, “Why have we never been friends before now? We’re in the same grade, and we must have had classes together before… but I don’t recall ever seeing you before a couple of months ago.”

I sighed, not sure how to answer that. “I don’t know… We must have just kept missing each other. But I’m so glad that’s not the case anymore. You… there’s just something about you. You’re kind, warm, accepting. You see past people’s faults, to the person they are underneath. You’re patient, forgiving, and open to things that are a little… different. But you don’t take crap from anyone either, and you stand up for what you believe in. You’re just… amazing.”

Her expression was blank. “You saw all that, sitting across the room from me?”

I peeked up at her with a small smile that I couldn’t hide. “I see you, Arianna. I see the real you.” Straightening, I met her eye and held her gaze. “And I really like what I see.”

Arianna held her breath as we stared at each other. Her heart rate spiked, and I momentarily felt bad that I could hear it. She’d probably be embarrassed if she knew I could. But then her eyes drifted to my lips, and I really didn’t care that I had a slight advantage. All I cared about was whether she wanted me to kiss her right now. Was she ready to see me as more?

I leaned in, tentative and unsure. Maybe I was misinterpreting this. Maybe, because I wanted it so badly, I was seeing something that wasn’t there. My heart was thumping in my chest so loudly, Nika probably thought I was doing something much more strenuous than just sitting on a bed, staring at Arianna, and waiting for our second first kiss to happen.

I have followed this series throughout. I would definitely suggest that you read all books in order, because otherwise it might feel as though you are missing pieces of the story, as well as dynamics between family members.

Julian is struggling with the decisions of the past few months. He feels like he's lost his sister somewhat, he's lost the love of his life, and he wants to be more involved with keeping his family safe. While he's still in school, he knows that he's going to be losing out on his chances with the love of his life and he doesn't make the best decisions when it comes to that.

Nika is working to accept her new reality. While she doesn't love the fact that her dad is so strict, she understands, to a point. When outside forces try to tear her family and way of life apart, she also has to contend with her sire's issues and her brother's unhappiness, in part due to her situation.

At times, this book felt a little drawn out – I felt that it could have been condensed and been just as good. I liked how complex the situations became with the hunters and appreciated what each side was trying to accomplish.

The secondary characters were necessary and helped to further the story along, as well as give alternative perspectives throughout.

Overall, this was a good ending and I felt that most things were resolved.

Sarah☆☆☆☆
What happens to a rock star when the music stops? Devlin Waters takes himself back to university to finish his degree – and finds himself falling for his sexy professor. I loved the premise of this story and I love that it was inspired by the Offspring’s Dexter Holland’s real life experience.

There are some very funny moments as the celebrity rocker attempts to become just another anonymous student. His peers are young enough to be his children and his flippant banter doesn’t win him any respect from his teacher.

Jack is an interesting character. He’s a buttoned-up professor who also moonlights in a tribute band – as Devlin. I liked Jack but the fanboy ick factor was unnerving. I was never absolutely certain that his relationship with Devlin was because of the man, not the rock star.

There is great chemistry between Jack and Devlin, fabulous flirtation, and a few steamy moments. I liked these two together, but I think I responded more to Devlin’s grief and his midlife crisis than I did to the romance in the novel.

Parts of this story didn’t quite work for me. For slightly older characters, there is too much miscommunication and there are too many moments where Devlin feels more like a sulky, cocky 20-year-old than a confident 40-year-old. Maybe it’s a rock star stunted development thing, but it really wasn’t sexy. I also felt like too much of this story is spent with side characters and as a result, there aren’t enough moments where we actually see Jack and Devlin building a relationship together.

He heard her muffled chuckle. She continued to lean against him while the trio of constables expressed sympathy for the unfortunate patient. Eventually the men departed with a chorus of hearty farewells. Ethan discovered that his other arm had stolen around Garrett. Making himself let go of her was like trying to uncoil a steel spring.

“You should go up to your father now,” he said with difficulty.

“Eliza will look after him while I take a few minutes to show you some slides. I have insect wings... pollen grains... flower petals... What would you like to see?”

“The inside of a hansom cab,” he said softly. “I can’t be alone with you, darlin’.”

Garrett touched the edges of his vest, fingers clamping on the thin leather. “Ethan.” A blush rose in her face, like light glowing through pink frosted glass. “I don’t want to end this. We... we could meet in secret, now and then. No one would have to know. We would make no claims on each other. We’ll just... do as we please.”

The way she fumbled with the words, so unlike her usual precise way of speaking, devastated Ethan. He could only guess what it cost her to lay open her pride like this. He wasn’t certain what she was offering, or even if she knew. Not that it mattered. He wanted, craved, needed anything she was willing to give. But he had to make her understand that it was impossible. And even if it were, the idea was beneath her.

“Have you had that kind of arrangement with a man before?” he brought himself to ask.

Her eyes were the green of deep summer and lush growing things. “I’m a woman who makes her own decisions and handles the consequences.”

“That means no,” Ethan said softly. At her silence, he continued, “You’d be risking your reputation. Your career.”

“Believe me, I understand that better than you.”

“Have you ever shared a bed with a man? Even once?”

“Why is that relevant?”

Her evasive response sent a pleasure-pang down to the pit of his stomach. “That means no,” he said again, his voice even softer than before. He took a slow breath, trying to steady himself, while his blood sang with the knowledge that she’d been waiting for him. She was meant to be his. God, he wanted her beyond any reckoning of earth or heaven. But her well-being mattered a thousand times more than his own desires.

“Garrett... I’m a man full o’ trouble. When I vowed to let nothing harm you, I included myself on that list.”

A frown crimped her forehead. She closed her grip on his vest until her fists were tight as pine knots. “I’m not afraid of you, or your trouble.” Her green eyes were narrowed and intent as she tugged him closer. “Kiss me,” she urged in a whisper.

“I have to go,” he said shortly, and pulled back while he was still able.

But Garrett moved with him, her hands reaching up to grip his head on either side, the way he’d taught her at Baujart’s. The strength of her fingers electrified him.

“Kiss me,” she commanded, “or I’ll break your nose.”

The threat startled a ragged laugh from him. He shook his head as he looked at her, this fearsomely capable woman who loved geese and was afraid of spaghetti, and could either wield a scalpel in a complex surgical procedure or use it as a throwing-knife.

There had always been a cold streak in him, but he couldn’t seem to find it now, when he needed it most. He was breaking apart inside. He would never be the same after this.

“Christ, you’ve ruined me,” he whispered.

His arms went around her, one hand gripping the heavy silken mass of her braided chignon. She guided his head down, and he lost the battle, all his will vanquished as he began to kiss her as if the world were about to end.

For him, it was.

Hello Stranger is the fourth installment of The Ravenels series and can most certainly be read as a standalone. While I have read the majority of Lisa Kleypas's backlist, I had not read any of this series, and I had absolutely no difficulty falling into the story. I had no confusion reading this as a standalone and look forward to going back to book one and working my way through the series.

Hello Stranger starts off with a thrilling scene, drawing the reader into the story from word one in an innovated way. Our hero and heroine have had previous encounters. However, since this was the first I've read, I don't feel short-changed with how Kleypas released the previous information about their encounters without doing an info-dump.

Garrett Gibson is the first female doctor in England, in a time when women were not seen in the same light as men. She was logical, non-emotional, no-nonsense, but written in a manner that does not make her seem cold. I immediately identified with Garrett, which had me emotionally invested in the character and the journey. I appreciated that Hello Stranger didn't concentrate on balls and trapping a man in the marriage mart, befitting the characterization.

Ethan Ransom is an interesting character, with a mysterious backstory. He's as practical and efficient as the doctor but has a red-blooded, passionate streak. Trained to do the jobs in which most would not succeed, Ransom tries and fails to disconnect from his humanity.

Garrett and Ransom are drawn together, bringing out portions of human nature they both suppress due to their professions. Their romance felt real, with a slow-build, high tension, and sizzling passion unfolding organically throughout the story.

They're tested, both as a couple, but most certainly by profession, in a manner that allows the reader to see Garrett's medical knowledge. The reader can see that Garrett is not a damsel in distress throughout the majority of the book – not only will she protect herself, she is driven to care for others. The depth in which the author goes to show the medical limitations of the time, some readers may be drawn to skim this portion – however, I was intrigued by both the medical angle, as well as how women in Garrett's profession were treated.

There is a small side cast of characters, which I'm sure are past narrators. However, the reader gets to meet West, who most certainly will be the hero of the next installment. I enjoyed him immensely, and all the foreshadowing made me hungry from West's book.

My favorite part of the entire novel was the instant familial connection Ransom and West shared. Their interplay was amusing and heartwarming. It was as if West brought out another side to Ransom – a sarcastic and witty side that brought levity to an otherwise darker novel, and this transferred over into how they both interacted with Garrett.

Here are two quotes from the beginning of the novel that had me thoroughly entertained, and will also give a glimpse into Garrett's character.

You've been all work and no play for much too long. And then one night a mysterious and handsome man appears out of the shadows, fending off attackers on your behalf–"

"That part was annoying," Garrett interrupted. "I was doing quite well at being my own hero until he jumped in."

Helen's lips curved. "Still... it must have been a little flattering."
___

"This man is a patient," Garrett told the cookmaid, removing the posy of violets from the buttonhole of her walking jacket before handing the garment to her. "I've brought him here for a consultation – please see that we're not disturbed."

"Consultation for what?" the maid asked slyly, her gaze traveling from Ethan's head to his toes, and back up again. "'E don't look all that peaked to me."

Garrett's brows lowered. "You know better than to comment on a patient's appearance."

Leaning toward her, the cookmaid said in a stage whisper, "I meant to say I 'opes you can do something for this poor, sickly wreck of a man."

Ever since the Downton Abbey TV show, I’ve developed a new appreciation for historical romances. So, it comes as no surprise to anyone that Lisa Kleypas is hands down one of my favorite historical romance authors! Although, I don’t read very many historical romances, but Kleypas always has a way of sucking me into the beauty of ball gowns, corsets, and handsome suitors. I’m especially fond of her Wallflower and Hathaway series, which made reading The Ravenels a no brainer.

Hello Stranger is the fourth installment in The Ravenels series. These books can all be read together or as a standalone. Having read the three previous books, I personally enjoyed reading them in order, but they’re not necessary to enjoy Hello Stranger. Honestly, I wasn’t sure how much I’d like Hello Stranger, but I ended up loving Dr. Garett Gibson and Ethan Ransom’s story more than I thought I would! Garett is such a strong independent woman and I easily found myself falling for Ethan’s character! Plus, together they were the perfect match for one another. Also, I always appreciate how previous characters pop back up throughout the series! I just can’t get enough of the whole Ravenel family and I can’t wait to see what Kleypas has in store for us next!

Start Me Up by J. Kenner Release Blitz

Wicked days. Sinful nights.
Meet Mr. April.

A high school drop-out with only his twisted sense of humor and panty-melting good looks going for him, Nolan Wood has turned a small radio gig into a thriving career.

Now a local celebrity, Nolan never wants for female companionship. But he never gets too close. And he damn sure never lets them see the man—or the pain—behind the jokes.

Then a one-night stand changes everything.

Career-focused, goal-oriented, and buttoned-down accountant Shelby Drake isn’t the kind of woman who’d usually catch Nolan’s attention, but her soft mouth, hidden curves, and deep sensuality blow his mind. And after only one taste, he wants more.

But Shelby wants nothing more to do with him. And now the radio playboy is on a sensual mission to convince her that opposites really do attract.

Her pleasure is his passion.

Start Me Up is part of a binge read series by New York Times, USA Today, Wall Street Journal, Publishers Weekly, and #1 International bestselling author of the million copy Stark series, J. Kenner.

Each book in the series is a STANDALONE romance with a guaranteed HEA!

But even so, you won’t want to miss any in the series. Because then you can answer the question…

Ruthie☆☆☆☆
This is the fourth in the series and I am loving this series – it is becoming a firm favourite when it hits my Kindle, and feels rather like a romantic TV drama, but in e-ink! Now that we are four books in, there are subtle overlaps and a depth which can only develop over time. I would definitely recommend that you read them in order.

In this installment we learn more about radio DJ and joker, Nolan, and discover his deepest, most private secret, and just how that has affected his life. It is done well and is a reminder of how parents can damage their children. He is a fun guy and so his unexpected attraction, well beyond the usual, to Shelby is something that surprises him, but he is more than happy to investigate. There is no denying the chemistry between these two opposites. I loved Shelby's secret sexiness (as an accountant myself I object to the stereotype!).

So we now have Mr. January through Mr. April, and a huge hint about who will be the main feature in the next installment, and very exciting it will be!

J. Kenner (aka Julie Kenner) is the New York Times, USA Today, Publishers Weekly, Wall Street Journal and #1 International bestselling author of over seventy novels, novellas and short stories in a variety of genres.

Though known primarily for her award-winning and international bestselling erotic romances (including the Stark and Most Wanted series) that have reached as high as #2 on the New York Times bestseller list, JK has been writing full time for over a decade in a variety of genres including paranormal and contemporary romance, “chicklit” suspense, urban fantasy, and paranormal mommy lit.

JK has been praised by Publishers Weekly as an author with a “flair for dialogue and eccentric characterizations” and by RT Bookclub for having “cornered the market on sinfully attractive, dominant antiheroes and the women who swoon for them.” A five time finalist for Romance Writers of America’s prestigious RITA award, JK took home the first RITA trophy awarded in the category of erotic romance in 2014 for her novel, Claim Me (book 2 of her Stark Trilogy). Her Demon Hunting Soccer Mom series (as Julie Kenner) is currently in development with AwesomenessTV/Awestruck.

Her books have sold over three million copies and are published in over twenty languages.

In her previous career as an attorney, JK worked as a clerk on the Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals, and practiced primarily civil, entertainment and First Amendment litigation in Los Angeles and Irvine, California, as well as in Austin, Texas. She currently lives in Central Texas, with her husband, two daughters, and two rather spastic cats.
