Natasha runs into Brooks, and enjoys the company of the man who works with her cousin’s husband. But when Natasha accidentally makes the discovery that her products contain cocaine, not only is her life threatened, but every person she loves is in danger.

Fate

Sarah☆☆☆
This is an action-packed story of a federal officer in pursuit of a drug cartel and the woman he suspects is trafficking drugs for the cartel.

Brooks is a fairly typical leading man/federal agent/alpha male. He has all the typical urges to protect the women in his life and as often happens in similar stories, he finds himself attracted to the woman he has under surveillance. Brooks is clever and strong and fiercely protective.

When we first meet Natasha she is a happy and slightly dippy free spirit. She owns an art and souvenir shop and spends much of her time selling her goods at trade fairs. But soon after we meet her, Natasha’s life spirals out of control as she is coerced to traffic drugs for a cartel. Natasha is an interesting character and I liked her better by the end of the story when she finds the courage to fight back against the cartel.

This book starts quite slowly but I enjoyed the action at the end of the story. Earlier in the book, there is more focus on the romance and sex than the crime story. The agent falling for his suspect is a fairly tired trope. The end of this story adds some excitement but this story feels pretty formulaic and predictable throughout. This is the only book I’ve read in the series. It works as a standalone novel but I wasn’t engaged enough with the story to go back and read the earlier books.

Cheyenne McCray is an award winning, New York Times and USA Today bestselling author who loves to torture characters—whether they’re misbehaving or not—and kill off deserving individuals. She also totally gets off on blowing things up. All fictionally, of course. She’d rather chew glass than write sweet and sugary. Give her a hideous demon or particularly nasty villain to slay any day.

Cheyenne enjoys creating stories of love, suspense, and redemption. She loves building worlds her readers can get lost in. If you would like to find out what odd and unusual things Cheyenne is up to these days, cruise her website any time, take a look at the bizarrely normal yet strange FAQs, and even drop her a line or two.
