Michael, Reinvented by Diana Copland

Cute hipster and interior designer Michael doesn’t do love—not after his ex screwed him over. Sex is a different story, though, and the gentle giant who’s painting the mural in the old mansion they’re restoring might be perfect hookup material. Gil is just Michael’s type with his solid muscle, wicked sense of humor, and the hazel eyes that seem to see into Michael’s soul.

Trouble is, Gil does do love. He wants romance and forever, and he’s set his sights firmly on Michael. Michael’s not going there again.

Yet when Michael is the victim of a vandal who’s been plaguing the men working for Delta Restoration, Renovation, and Design, Gil is the first person he tells. No matter how he fights it, it’s becoming harder and harder to deny he’s crazy about the guy—even if that thought terrifies him. But the true fear sets in when the criminal behavior escalates, and Michael realizes he might have lost the chance to tell Gil how he feels—forever.

Angie☆☆☆☆
I did not read the first book in the series and at times I felt like I was missing something, but not so much that I couldn't enjoy the story. I loved both Michael and Gil. I liked their banter back and forth. In fact, I liked the banter between all of the characters. It reminded me of my friends. I will say there was a lot of build up to Michael and Gil getting together. Then there was an accident, which of course made Michael realize what he really felt. I really wished we would have seen more of the after. Maybe we will in the next installment? Overall, a good story, but it left me wanting more.

This book is alternately sweet and exciting. Interior designer Michael can’t quite admit the crush he has on interior decorator Gilbert. And as they work together with their tradesmen friends to renovate a Victorian mansion, the madman stalking their group of friends threatens both of their lives.

I liked Michael and Gil, but I didn’t fall as hard for either of them as I did for the men in the first book. Michael’s fear of relationships doesn’t feel very believable and Gil is a little bit too perfect for my liking. The romance took a long time to kick in and then they just rushed straight into a committed relationship. The pacing felt awkward to me. Also, this feels like m/m romance written for a female audience and, at times, the male characters don’t feel much like men.

The combination of cosy suburban domesticity and crazy stalker worked surprisingly well. I loved the interior design and decorating details in this story, but the story would have been far too sweet without the suspense element. However, the suspense in this story ends far too early, and the rest of the book seems to limp to a somewhat unfulfilling conclusion.
