The Road to Frosty Hollow by RJ Scott & Meredith Russell Blog Tour

Nick and Cameron face old demons, and find new love, on a Christmas road trip.

Former Marine Nick Sheridan is at a crossroads. With his entire life ahead of him he struggles to find direction and his place in the world. Car sharing to get home for his sister’s Christmas wedding seems like a good idea at first. Spending the time with the man he kissed and left years before, maybe not so much.

Cameron Bennett lost most of his teenage years to cancer and he now lives every day to the fullest. He decides to drive from Seattle to Vermont for his best friend’s wedding and capture moments of it on film. He hadn’t planned on car sharing with the man who kissed him ten years ago, but somehow he ends up with a brooding Nick by his side.

Along the way, the men learn that sometimes life plans mean nothing in the grand scheme of things. Love can be found in the most unexpected of ways, and facing your demons head on is sometimes the only way to live.

This is a really enjoyable read, which will warm the heart of any romantic – and if you read the Montana series, there is a little extra treat in here, which really made me smile!

Two men, who last saw each other when one pushed the other away after a first kiss at a party in high school, agree to drive cross country back home for a wedding... not necessarily the best idea either of them had, but Nick's sister, and also Cameron's best friend, has managed to persuade them, and clearly she gets what she wants!

Both guys are hurting; life has not been that kind to them in the past, but once they rekindle their childhood friendship, things definitely improve. I loved that we were along for the ride, and get to follow both their trip and their adventures. How sad we feel for Cam, as he avoids difficult phone calls, and happy when he acts on how much he wants Nick.

Although this is quite a short book, it gives us a very satisfying story, and whilst I would love to know more, we leave them in a good place.

Ooh – I love a good road trip romance! Add a directionless retired marine and I’m sold. There is surprising depth to the character development in this very short book.

Both Nick and Cameron are experiencing life events that make them vulnerable and reflective while they test out the connection they’ve felt for each other since they were teenagers. The men start their road trip as acquaintances sharing a ride to Nick’s sister’s wedding, but they quickly become friends, confidants, and lovers. The slightly unrealistic instalove is explained through the childhood they shared, but there was clear chemistry and a shared perspective on life that made this relationship feel right.

The road trip was fun, though some of the places Nick and Cameron visited started to blur together by the end. As the men become more comfortable with each other, a playfulness builds between them and I loved the resulting friendship.

This is a short, sweet romance of two slightly lost men who find each other as they drive across the country together. I enjoyed this and I felt quite attached to both Nick and Cameron by the end.

This was a sweet, short read. I enjoyed seeing Nick and Cameron’s relationship grow on the cross-country trip. I even loved Nick’s sister Kaitlin, and her meddling, such a good sister. It was a feel good story, which gave you just enough but had you wanting more. I wanted to know what happened next and now I will just have to imagine what happened, which is fine, but I could stand to have some more of Nick and Cameron. A good snowy Sunday read.
