Wrapped Together by Annabeth Albert

In the bustling restaurants, shops, and cafés of Portland, Oregon, things really heat up for the hard-working men behind the scenes when the holidays come into town...

For a stationery store owner, the holidays are great for business. But for Hollis Alcott, Christmas reminds him of the tragic events of three years past, and the last thing he wants to do is take part in Portland’s over-abundance of festive cheer. But Sawyer Murphy, a hunky gift shop owner whose brother is married to Hollis’s sister, has made it his mission to pluck Hollis out of his holiday blues. And his plan is beginning to work. Wrapped in the warm glow of newfound passion, the former business rivals hit up Portland’s finest holiday traditions—and Hollis’s icy attitude begins to melt like snowflakes on his tongue. But he isn’t sure he can trust anyone with the only gift he has—his heart—without breaking it like an antique ornament. Unless he can find the courage to take a leap with the one lover he never expected...

Hollis is not in the Christmas spirit. Since the passing of his parents three years ago, he struggles to find joy. He is shy, introverted, and very particular. He has known Sawyer since they were kids, and their siblings are now married, tying them together in adulthood. Sawyer is an extrovert, always with some new hobby on the go. He makes it his Christmas mission to bring some holiday cheer to Hollis and have him attend the family Christmas dinner.

It quickly becomes clear that there has always been an attraction that Hollis and Sawyer have danced around for a long time. When they finally become intimate, it is sublime. But with feelings involved, Hollis struggles to believe it will last.

Wrapped Together has left me infused with Christmas spirit that I'm dying to share around and it is only November 20. I might be putting the lights and tree up early this year.

This is a sweet, feel-good holiday romance. Hollis is a slightly Scrooge-like character with a carefully ordered life that protects him from the grief and pain he doesn’t want to feel. He is perfectly matched with Sawyer, an easy going neighbour whose life has been inextricably entangled with Hollis’ since childhood.

Cute slips towards adorable and possibly plunges into twee a few times in this story. Sawyer’s huge extended family, cute kids, childhood friendships, and a community shop decorating contest add somewhat overwhelming holiday cheer.

The relationship between Hollis and Sawyer is sweet. Hollis’ rigidly ordered life may involve a little OCD. His avoidance of all social activities and relationships is disturbing – but then so is Sawyer’s determination to make him join in and love Christmas.

Ultimately, this is a simple holiday romance to be read with a hot chocolate or a glass of wine in front of the fire on Christmas Eve.

This is the fifth in the series – and I have enjoyed them all. I would say that it is not essential to read them in order, but the community features in each book. They are also really lovely stories, so why miss out?!

This is one of those perfect Christmas romances. It is super cute, has a couple of fun twists, and a full cast of dream people. It gives the reader a lovely taste of Christmas as Sawyer tries to bring Hollis back to his happier self. Plus, the experience of watching two men who have known and cared about each other for half a lifetime, finally getting what their hearts desire. There are some really lovely treats which I will not spoil for you – and let's be honest, a man who is serious about stationery... well that is my kind of friend!

Thank you Ms. Albert for a lovely piece of Christmas magic – I shall be putting this on my reread list for when I need a truly cute pick me up.
