One Snowy Night by Jill Shalvis

New York Times bestselling author Jill Shalvis returns to Heartbreaker Bay with a fun and festive holiday novella!

It’s Christmas Eve and Rory Andrews is desperate to get home to the family she hasn’t seen in years. Problem is, her only ride to Lake Tahoe comes in the form of the annoyingly handsome Max Stranton, and his big, goofy, lovable dog Carl.

Hours stuck in a truck with the dead sexy Max sounds like a fate worse than death (not), but Rory’s out of options. She’s had a crush on Max since high school and she knows he’s attracted to her, too. But they have history… and Max is the only one who knows why it went south.

They’ve done a good job of ignoring their chemistry so far, but a long road trip in a massive blizzard might be just what they need to face their past… and one steamy, snowy night is all it takes to bring Max and Rory together at last.

Mary Jo☆☆☆☆
We finally get the scoop on Rory's background and why Max seems to either avoid her or go out of his way to be around her. Lots of twists down memory lane, but when the truth comes out and their true feelings emerge, all it takes is one snowy night to make them see other each clearly.

Loved this short and sweet Christmas novella and I hope we get more of Rory and Max's story in the next Heartbreaker Bay story.

Veronica☆☆☆☆
This novella is part of the Heartbreaker Bay series, which I love, but it could easily be read as a standalone.

Rory catches a lift with Max and his big doggie, Carl, back to their hometown on Christmas Eve, wanting to reunite with her family after running away as a teen. Along the way, we learn Rory and Max have a history dating back to high school. One that has Rory feeling shame and Max feeling angry. Fast forward and they are now in their 20s and attracted to each other in spite of their past.

One Snowy Night is a lovely romance, with the fun of a road trip and a little bit of heat thrown in. I really enjoyed this story but it is a novella and it finished around the 60% mark. This annoyed me because I wanted more time with Max and Rory. If you are after a quick Christmas read One Snowy Night is worth your time.

Ruthie☆☆☆☆
This novella solves a puzzle that has been brewing in the Heartbreaker Bay series. Max's frequent visits to get Carl groomed were clearly more to do with Rory than anything else, and this little gem reveals all. It is short, sweet, and clears the air, so that in future installments I hope that we get to see how things progress.

In case you haven't read the previous two books, there are good chunks of them at the end of the book.

For a quick Christmassy read with a promising ending, this fits the bill.
