Wrenches, Regrets, & Reality Checks by L.A. Witt

When Reggie’s garage became part of a popular reality show, business went through the roof. And he supposes having his shop in the black is a fair trade for jumping through the network’s hoops.

As the show’s lowest-ranking producer, Wes is tasked with proposing a new spin-off show to Reggie. The sexy mechanic makes him sweat on a normal day, but this time, Wes is holding cards he can’t show. With execs breathing down his neck, he’s expected to pitch a show Reggie will never agree to do, even if his rejection puts his existing show on the line.

The network is counting on Reggie refusing to sign. But they’re not counting on their messenger falling for the man they’re trying to fire.

Avid Reader☆☆☆
I have read the previous novellas in this series and this one was slightly disappointing. While the premise was good, I didn't feel that it really followed through. The story was too easy to predict.

The main characters were not developed that much and I felt that I was always wondering if there was more depth to their relationship other than the attraction.

Because this is such a short story, I can kind of understand why the development of the story was so predictable, but I think that the previous ones were less so.

Overall, this has been my least favorite of the series so far.

3 Reality TV Stars.

Wrenches, Regrets, & Reality Checks is the third installment of the Wrench Wars novella/short story series, based around a reality television show featuring mechanics working on souped-up cars.

In this installment, the reader gets to see it from the production side with Wes, delving deep into the machinations of the show's producers.

The premise is what happens when a show-runner and a producer butt heads and fall into bed...

Truthfully, this didn't work for me, when I expected it to be fabulous. There was just something missing – a connection. What promised to be highly angsty was just one-note. With the previous installments, I felt it a complete story, as if I knew the characters, so the inevitable hookup felt realistic. But no matter how hot it is written, unless I (the reader) feels a connection to the characters, I feel numb. Maybe I'm just a sucker for a backstory, and there wasn't one given for either character, so nothing anchored the story.

However, the preview of book four caught my attention, and I'm eagerly awaiting the next in the series.

Witt is an abnormal M/M romance writer currently living in the glamorous and ultra-futuristic metropolis of Omaha, Nebraska, with her husband, two cats, and a disembodied penguin brain that communicates with her telepathically. In addition to writing smut and disturbing the locals, L.A. is said to be working with the US government to perfect a genetic modification that will allow humans to survive indefinitely on Corn Pops and beef jerky. This is all a cover, though, as her primary leisure activity is hunting down her arch nemesis, erotica author Lauren Gallagher, who is also said to be lurking somewhere in Omaha.
