On Your Sole by Caitlin Ricci

One feisty shoe-loving fae might be just what this shoe store owner needs to get back on track…if he doesn’t kill the fae first.

Randal Tobit has recently taken over his father’s shoe store, On Your Sole, and is trying to make his father proud after his recent divorce from a woman his dad liked. The job is easy, but only because of the man his father hired and will not give Randal permission to fire under any circumstances.

Casey is helpful and happy, bordering on obnoxiously so. He’s a morning person and he loves shoes, which makes him perfect for the store, but not so much for Randal, who prefers to be barefoot when he can’t wear flip flops.

When the store is vandalized and Casey offers his help, Randal makes a bargain with him—one that he probably would have reconsidered if he’d had any idea what Casey actually was…

On Your Sole is a sexy m/m paranormal romance featuring Randal and Casey. Randal has recently taken over his father’s mall-based shoe store and only agreed to run it so that his father could retire. The only condition his father placed on Randal was that he could not fire Casey. As for the lovely Casey, he’s a chipper morning person who rubs Randal the wrong way. And oh how Randal wishes Casey weren’t an employee, because then maybe he could get Casey to rub him the right way. (Sorry, I couldn’t resist.) And he’s fae. A fact that Randal discovers when Casey helps him put the store back to rights after it’s vandalized. But that’s not the only secret Casey is keeping and it’s up to Randal to figure out what questions to ask, and whether or not to make a bargain with the fae.

I really liked this story. While it is a novelette, Ricci has written it in such a way that it’s the perfect length for the story told. Would I like more? Absolutely. I loved Casey and would enjoy seeing how things progress between him and Randal. But as On Your Sole isn’t meant to tell their whole story, but rather the “How I met your father…” part of their story, it’s great. Do things progress quickly? Yes, because they have to, especially if there’s any hope of some skin-on-skin action. But I enjoyed watching the curmudgeony Randal begin to fall for the charming Casey. They made a cute couple and, as I said, I would love to read more about them, as well as check in to see how well Casey’s improvements to the store fare in the long-term.

Caitlin was fortunate growing up to be surrounded by family and teachers that encouraged her love of reading. She has always been a voracious reader and that love of the written word easily morphed into a passion for writing. If she isn’t writing, she can usually be found studying as she works toward her counseling degree. She comes from a military family and the men and women of the armed forces are close to her heart.

She also enjoys gardening and horseback riding in the Colorado Rockies where she calls home with her wonderful fiance, their dog and Blue Tongue Skink. Her belief that there is no one true path to happily ever after runs deeply through all of her stories.

Caitlin Ricci loves to hear from readers.
