Her Survivor by Vonnie Davis

Vonnie Davis welcomes readers to Wounded Warrior Falls! In this sizzling contemporary series, broken heroes meet women worth fighting for—and discover the healing power of love.

Navy SEAL Dustin Frank can handle physical pain; it's his soul that needs mending. After losing part of his leg in an explosion, the panic triggered by his PTSD nearly drives him over the edge. So Dustin retreats to the Eagle Ridge Ranch, a charming hideaway tucked into the Hill Country of Texas. There he finds solace in the arms of a shy beauty who reawakens desires he thought he'd lost forever—and who makes him want to lose control, just when he needs it most.

Kelcee Todd sees beyond Dustin's scars to the real man beneath: fiercely protective, strong yet tender. She wants nothing more than to feel his battle-hardened hands on her body. However, Kelcee is not the ordinary small-town girl she appears to be. Her brother is a killer with ties to the Russian mob, and after her testimony put him in prison, he's out and eager for revenge. Now Dustin is her best defense, even if it could cost him everything. Kelcee could never ask him to make that sacrifice...but she can't stop him, either.

Rachael☆☆☆
I have to say there were things I loved about this book and things that I didn't like at all. To start, I liked that the men were all dealing with some hard issues that were left from them being in the SEALs. The trauma that people experience from the things they do is intense, so it was nice to see that it wasn't overlooked.

I particularly hated the yo-yo of the relationship between Kelcee and Dustin. They fight but then it's love and then it's pain… then love… It's so quick to shoot back and forth that I really didn't feel their connection to each other at all.

I did like the premise of the story. I think there was a lot of promise there, but there was so much of the story that was just abandoned at different parts to focus on their relationship (which I already mentioned I didn't connect with at all). The secrets of the falls, the secret SEAL team, Kelcee's past, Dustin's injury and PTSD. There was so much going on that was sort of dropped so the two could have sex, which wasn't all that sexy either.

The action of the story was rushed. There were times phrases were EXTREMELY overused and really got annoying. However, I have to say that I really did like the secondary characters. They were what kept me interested in the story and seeing what fun things they'd bring to the story next.

In the end, I was happy to see the story end, which is never a good thing. I'd have to say I'm on the edge of whether or not I'd pick up the second book in the series, which I'm assuming would be about JJ or ZQ.
