Good as Gold by Susan Laine

It’s been two and a half years since aspiring writer Yancy Bell met troubled jock Curt Donovan. Yancy works at the NY Public Library, and Curt is studying dance at Juilliard. It’s summer in New York City, and the devoted couple couldn’t be happier together.

Yancy’s book is the story of Curt’s survival of depression and attempted suicide. When his former English professor, Hume, encourages him, Yancy is surprised and pleased—only to be devastated when Hume commits an unethical act. This adversity leads Yancy to a new understanding of depression as he spirals down to his lowest point ever.

It’s Curt’s turn to step up to the plate and become Yancy’s hero.

Ruthie☆☆☆
The fourth book in the series, and I think you would need to read the previous ones to get the full story. I will assume you have in my review.

So far Curt has been the one in the relationship with issues of depression and self-esteem. It was, in fact, the night that he was about to commit suicide that he met Yancy, and they have been together ever since. There have been some rocky points, but he is finally in a good place. Yancy too has a job he loves, a man he loves, and his novel is coming together well. That is, until an ex-professor comes on the scene and throws a spanner in the works. Now it is Yancy who thinks the world has ended, and Curt who is the rock. This turn around worked well, and the plot twist is very satisfying.

It felt good to get the story told, and these two men in a more safe and stable place. They undoubtedly had a strong and sexually fulfilling relationship, good friends, and careers poised for success. I am still somewhat vexed by the constant use of unlikely words, which just felt done to avoid repetition. I am agog that Yancy managed such a Thanksgiving feast in a kitchenette, and still confused that his little problem vanished – especially in this installment, but in the interests of an entertaining story, chose to ignore it.
