Law Man by Kristen Ashley

Love is just around the corner...

Sweet, shy Mara Hanover is in love with her neighbor. For four years, she has secretly watched her dream man from afar. Handsome police detective Mitch Lawson is way out of her league. She's a girl from the wrong side of the tracks, and there's no way a guy like Mitch would want anything to do with her. But when Mara has a leaky faucet that she can't fix, it's Mitch who comes to her rescue.

Mitch has been eyeing his beautiful neighbor for a long time. He jumps at the chance to help her, and soon their formerly platonic relationship gets very hot and heavy. But when Mara gets a disturbing phone call from her cousin's kids, she gets pulled back into the life she's tried so hard to leave behind. Can the hot law man convince Mara to let go of her past-and build a future with him?

I have to be honest here, I've tried a few times to get into Kristen Ashley books. Normally the heroines drive me nuts, the men are "too" Alpha, and at times her stories are too descriptive (I know, that sounds terrible). WELL – I've FINALLY found a series that I ADORE by Ms. Ashley!!
The Dream Man Series is intriguing and sexy, especially Law Man.

Mitch, how I love thee... Sweet, sexy, Officer of the Law, and OF COURSE all Alpha. He has a sensitive side, he has a temper, he's protective – what more could you possibly want?!?
Beyond the fantastic-ness of Mitch, we also have Mara. She, as in traditional fashion, has serious issues trusting men, she's pathologically shy, and she has a heart the size of Texas. When Mara needs someone, Mitch proves time and time again that he WILL be the man to provide whatever she needs.
This is a romance story, but there is just so much more going on than 2 people finding each other and ultimately love.

This was an entertaining story from beginning to end: there is witty banter, scorching eroticism, fun secondary characters, and a LOT more than just the romance aspect.

While I have yet to read a Kristen Ashley book that I didn’t loved, Law Man is among my favorites of her books. Because I love all of her books that I’ve read and I’ve read them all except for the last two Chaos novels, I find it very difficult to write reviews for her books because I usually find myself so overwhelmed by them that I don’t know where to start. And I find that the more I love the book, the harder it is to write a review without going all fan-girl in it. But I’ll endeavor to do my best.

I think one of the reasons I enjoy Law Man so much is because of Mara’s “zones” and how she sees herself within them. I can so relate to her low self-esteem it’s not even funny – and I’m sure I’m not the only KA fan who can. But it’s not just that, it’s also how her upbringing factors into her self-assessment. Growing up in a trailer, in a small town, and being judged by the previous generation of your family really can be a shadow that is hard to overcome. But as Mara learns over the course of Law Man, she not only shook off her past, but she did it simply by being her. While the circumstances are not ideal, Mara stepping in to take care of her two second cousins sets the stage for her to learn just how far she’s come since leaving her hometown thirteen years earlier. And can I just say, THANK GOD!!! for shredded washers – even if the poor girl didn’t know there was a water shut-off valve under the sink. Despite a valiant, yet misplaced, effort to do it all on her own, Mara learns in less than a week that Detective Mitch Lawson is going to be a part of her and the children’s lives for the near future…or until he can get her to “pull her head out of her ass” and stay grounded in the “real” world. As for Mitch, well, Ashley doesn’t call it the Dream Man series for no reason. Mitch is perfect for Mara. He’s the right mix of alpha male, possessive, protective, sexy as sin, and sweet as can be. And learning that he’s waited two years to find an in with Mara just makes him that much more. It also explains why Mitch works so hard to break through Mara’s barriers once he finds his “in.” Their chemistry is off-the-charts hot and Ashley once again does a great job of mixing really racy sex scenes with fade-to-black sex scenes that leave just enough to the reader’s imagination. Yum!

As with the other books in this series, Law Man has a strong romantic suspense element to it – which I won’t discuss because even though the book has been out for three years, I refuse to ruin it for other readers. That combined with the Trailer Trash Twins (that still makes me laugh every time I read this book), Mara’s circle of friends, Mitch’s circle of friends, appearances by other KA characters, the romance between Mara and Mitch, and the family they build with Billy and Billie, makes Law Man an awesome book that I have read no less than half a dozen times. The only problem with this book is that I now want to reread the others in the series and I don’t have the time to do so (boo!).

I was born a middle class white child in Gary, Indiana, USA. One of the last of a dying breed. I nearly killed my mother and myself making it into the world, seeing as I had the umbilical cord wrapped around my neck (already attempting to accessorize and I hadn’t taken my first breath!). Mom says they took me away, put her back in her room, she looked out the window, and Gary was on fire (Dr. King had been assassinated four days before). She remembered thinking it was the end of the world. Quite the dramatic beginning.

Nothing’s changed.

All I’ve ever wanted to do was write (well, and be the Queen of the World, but you gotta start small) and I’ve published a gazillion books and counting (and a gazillion is a lot! shoo!).You can learn about my titles that have been released or that are soon to be released in the Titles section of the website.

Even though I jump genres, there is always a theme to my books…humor (hopefully), engaging characters (again, hopefully) and romance (definitely).

My loves are movies, music, food and fashion and I partake of all of them as often as I can (the middle two more than the others, the former, which takes time I don’t often have and the latter, which takes money I rarely have). In fact, I love food so much, I like to share my good fortune so I put my recipes on offer for you on this page (see top menu and don’t miss them, they’re awesome!).

I grew up in Brownsburg, Indiana and have lived in Denver, Colorado and the West Country of England. Thus I’m blessed to have friends and family around the globe. My family was (is) loopy (to say the least) but loopy is good when you want to write and growing up it was large and multi-generational. We all lived together on a very small farm in a small farm town in the heartland. I grew up with Glenn Miller, The Everly Brothers, REO Speedwagon and Whitesnake (and the wardrobes that matched). Needless to say, growing up in a house full of music, clothes and love was a good way to grow up.

And as I keep growing up, it keeps getting better.

So here I am, thank goodness.
