Elements of Retrofit by N.R. Walker

Generation versus generation, traditional versus contemporary, these men are about to learn a lesson in architecture and love. Can they prove that the old and new can be the perfect design?

A successful New York architect, Thomas Elkin almost has it all. Coming out as gay and ending his marriage before his fortieth birthday, he needed to start living his life. Now, four years later, with his relationship with his son back on track, and after a few short-lived romances, this esteemed traditional draftsman thinks he knows everything about architecture, about life.

Cooper Jones, twenty-two years old, is about to take the architect world by storm. Talented, professional, driven and completely infuriating, Cooper is the definition of Generation Y.

Starting an internship working with Thomas, Cooper is about to knock Tom’s world off its axis. Tom can teach Cooper about the architecture industry, but Cooper is about to teach Tom what it means to live.

This is my first read from this author and I can say I truly enjoyed it. It is the perfect length to read beginning to end for a relaxing evening.

I am loving the characters of Thomas and Cooper. They have a great chemistry. Thomas Elkin is a middle-aged successful architect. He is divorced from his wife and working on a closer relationship with his son. The one thing missing in this workaholic's life is fun and a man to share it with.

Cooper Jones is a friend of Ryan’s, Thomas's son, they went through school together, but grew apart. While out in the city they have recently found themselves in the same place at the same time and reconnected for dinner at Tom's house.

When Tom realizes that Cooper is in line for the intern position at his office he is more than happy to have him on the team. Sparks fly, moments are had. Can there be more than an employee/employer relationship? Can they get over the age gap?

The buildup and angst between the characters is very well written. I was delighted by the author’s voice. I can't wait to dive into book #2 to see where the author takes this couple.

This was a super sweet book, I just loved it! Tom and Cooper are wonderful together. I also enjoyed Jennifer, Thomas’s assistant. There was just a little bit of angst but that worked for this book. Thomas finally came out and divorced his wife and even though it has been several years he isn’t happy even though he finally has his relationship with son back on track and his work life is awesome as always. Who ends up making Thomas happy is none other than Cooper, his son’s friend and an intern at his company. These two together just make you feel good and your heart melt. If you need a feel good book, this one is for you!

This is the first in a series – but it is not a cliffhanger, and the other books are available, so no need to stress!

I am a sucker for a good MM and this one definitely qualifies. It is not terribly long, but we get a really good sense of who these men are, and what their values are. There is a lovely humour in the writing, enough drama to just keep one slightly on edge, and definitely some chemistry that gets explored. I can't wait to get to book two and see how things progress between Tom and Cooper. I found the age issue to be interesting both due to the obvious issues of generation, but also professionally. That kept the story fresh.

Thank you Ms. Walker, you are very consistent in producing great stories for us to enjoy.

N.R. Walker is an Australian author, who loves her genre of gay romance. She loves writing and spends far too much time doing it, but wouldn't have it any other way.

She is many things; a mother, a wife, a sister, a writer. She has pretty, pretty boys who live in her head, who don't let her sleep at night unless she gives them life with words.

She likes it when they do dirty, dirty things...but likes it even more when they fall in love.

She used to think having people in her head talking to her was weird, until one day she happened across other writers who told her it was normal.

She's been writing ever since...
