I am not usually one to read about Apocalypse and end of the world stories. But I loved Samantha's New Life series and thought I would give this one a try. It starts out with Bailey Dewitt's parents celebrating their 20th anniversary, but they never make it home. Leaving her and her twin brothers alone until her Nana shows up and starts giving orders. Now the three are headed to Midland, Texas to live with their mother's brother Uncle Peter. Whom they haven't seen for years. Bailey is suspicious of him and it seems she has good reason. She learns that Uncle Peter is from a community called Lawson and it is in the middle of the desert. The community is self-sufficient, they have their own power, water, gardens, cattle, horses and other animals and even an airstrip. But what Bailey fears most is that she is not welcome at the Ranch and that leaves her to wonder what they will do to her. She meets Caleb, from the community, and they fight with each other at first but have become good friends. Will Caleb let anything happen to Bailey? Will Bailey ever get back to civilization alive? At the beginning Bailey was selfish but then again she was raised that way, she had her own friends and did her own thing. And I wondered how Samantha Jacobey was gonna turn her around. I can't wait for the next book to see what happens.

Bailey DeWitt is a spoiled child of successful lawyers. She's popular and a cheerleader at her local high school as well as the older sister of twin brothers, Jace and Jess. When she learns of her parents' deaths, she is understandably devastated and outraged when she learns that she and her brothers are being shipped off to Texas to live with an uncle they barely remember.

Their uncle, Peter Mason, is evasive about exactly what he does for a living and it’s clear that their new home in Midland hasn't been lived in very long. Not being very trusting of her uncle, she starts working to make some money of her own and branching out with a new circle of friends.

When summer arrives and she's finally allowed to go to The Ranch and experience the prepper community for herself, she quickly learns that there may not be a permanent place for her in the community. Doing her best to fit in, Bailey settles into life at the compound and all seems well until she's told that she's being allowed to go back to Midland to complete her last year of high school.

I can't wait for the next installment to see what path Bailey is on.

What worked/what didn't: What worked for me was seeing Bailey adjusting to life in the prepper community by listening, and doing. She left the spoiled girl behind that she was in Chicago to become a self-sufficient person in Texas.

What didn't work for me was the fact that while Bailey used her phone to check in with social media sites, she NEVER called any of her friends. And they NEVER called her. Also, I'm sure that her parents (being lawyers) would have set up a trust, guardians, etc. to take care of their children in the event something happened to them.

Anyone who knows me could tell you, I am a friendly kind of person, never met a stranger and take up conversations anywhere at any time. I work hard, and my mind never seems to shut down, as I wake up often in the middle of the night with ideas pouring out and demanding to be dealt with. Of course that means much of my books were written in the middle of the night.

I grew up and still live in the great state of Texas where everything is bigger, where we have warm weather and a central location. I love my state, my town, and my family, which includes my four sons, my significant other, and many friends as well.

I have thoroughly enjoyed writing this story and hope that you will love reading it just as much. And of course, there will be many more adventures to come.
