This is the second story in the series, and I highly recommend that you read the first book first – it is to be found in the collection If Ever I Would Leave You: Arthurian Stories For A New Generation. It sets up the story and I think it would be difficult to understand all the dynamics without reading it first.

There are so many layers to this story that it is fast flowing and exciting, even when they are just waiting for things to happen! The way in which the characters know how things have played out for the last thousand years, they remain hopeful of success now they have found Anna. Along with Anna also comes her brother Will – who has definitely upped the heart rate of one of the knights. I loved how that played out ... hot, hot, hot! Even though in modern day these are young people trying to save the world, they are very old souls and their behaviour is a fascinating mix of hope over experience. We get to learn things through different viewpoints, which works well, as with such a large cast, it is good to understand the dynamics.

Betrayal, confusion, heart ache and untameable magic – this book is absolutely packed full of wonderful reading material.

I do hope book 3 is available soon, as we are left ... not so much on a cliff, as on the edge of sanity ... Please Ms. Jarman, get that muse firing and let me know what happens next!

Also Available in the Albion’s Circle Series

The Deepest Cut

For nineteen years, Anna has been plagued by dreams of lives lived only in legend. Finally free from the family that believed her hopeless and worthless, she’s ready to start her life over—alone.

When Anna meets an enigmatic stranger claiming to be the legendary wizard Merlin, she is forced to question the very reality she’s struggled to accept. With the mythic figures from her dreams intruding on her waking life, Anna learns that she’s been reborn to fight an ancient evil alongside King Arthur and his Knights of the Round Table.

Caught in an ages old conflict, Anna is the key to stopping a dark magic that will destroy the world—and Merlin wants to make sure that this time, Anna isn’t alone.

The Deepest Cut can only be found in the If Ever I Would Leave You: Arthurian Stories for a New Generation anthology.

As I am reviewing In My Veins by Jessica Jarman, I wanted to read the preceding book The Deepest Cut – which is only found in this collection. I am very glad that I did, as it is essential for understanding the plot!

I found it wonderfully confusing to have the heroes of Arthurian legend walking in modern day America. I loved the whole concept and couldn't wait to find out more. The descriptions of Anna's life, and the struggles that she had endured since she was 5, are slowly revealed and explained – her challenge to accept her new reality is well portrayed. In amongst the big picture are some super little scenes that are entertaining, some sexy and some amusing.

Really clever writing based on an inspired idea, looking forward to finding out more.
