Single Moms, Second Chances Series by Stef Ann Holm Blog Tour

Girls Night Out

Jillene McDermott is raising two daughters, alone. Her coffee bar, Java The Hut, is on life support and the only place she can find a quiet moment is in the bathtub.

Claire and Faye, Jillene's teenage daughters, know their mom deserves some happiness. But their good intentions go wrong when infamous crime writer, Vince Tremonti, steps up to play Jillene's "boyfriend."

Vince has briefly returned to Blue Heron Beach to rethink his flagging career. He doesn't have time to get involved with anyone, much less a young widow with a ready-made family. Still, he owes 'the universe' a good deed or two.

But when a couple of dates threaten to become a summer fling, suddenly the breakfast lattes aren't the only brews steaming in Blue Heron Beach.

Lucy Gets Her Life Back

Arriving in Red Duck, Idaho, with recipes, ambition, a silent prayer and two teenage boys, Lucy Carpenter plans to cook her way into the hearts and wallets of celebrities frequenting the nearby ski resort. All she needs is Drew Tolman, former pro baseball player turned local big shot, to put the word out.

Soon everyone's got Lucy's number, including Drew. But Drew knows he needs more help reconciling with his seventeen year old daughter--following a life-wrecking scandal of his own making--than he needs a personal chef.

But as Lucy's side-dishes of advice and companionship prove even more beneficial than her meals, Drew begins hunting for a way to convince the tempting Lucy that she's the dessert he's been saving room for.

Lucy Gets Her Life Back is about single mom Lucy. After her divorce she moves her two teenage boys to Red Duck with a plan to cook her way into being settled. She has her goal in sight, but ex baseball player Drew also lands in her sights. She just can’t help the attraction. Drew brings Lucy into his life as a cook, but soon realizes that she fits into the rest of his life all too well and he wants to keep her.

This book was a sweet read. I really like Stef Ann Holm’s character development. They are real people. I still think the side characters’ extra details kind of sidetrack from the main plot, but it wasn’t too bad in this book. I liked the romance and the family dynamics were both realistically challenging and sweet. Overall, it was an okay read for me.

This feel good, gentle romance is a lovely relaxing read. It introduces us to a lot of characters, and whilst the leads are front and centre, there are some enjoyable side stories too. Spin and Jacqui are particularly noteworthy.

In my opinion, stories involving food / chefs and so on, are usually winners. If an author can express well the feelings that good food invokes, then they are already a step ahead. Ms. Holm clearly knows her onions, and weaving the rest of the tale around Lucy's cooking plans works well. Throw in a retired baseball hunk like Drew and happy reading is guaranteed. I rather wished that we knew what happened next – but maybe that is the very sign of a good book!

Pink Moon

Single mom, Lauren Jessup, quickly realizes the waitressing job she took in the California coastal town of Bella Luna will never pay the bills. But she's a good listener, and regular customer Nick DiMartino needs a sympathetic ear.

Nick DiMartino is willing to do anything to gain permanent custody of his child--even leave Bella Luna and the home he and his young son love.

But Lauren knows the pain of never being allowed to stay in one place long enough to grow roots and vows to stay and help Nick and his son...at least until the Pink Moon.

Lauren and Nick are both single parents just trying to get by. They both worry about what’s best for their children and worry about losing them. When their paths cross they realize how close they have become and how, by taking a chance, they may just have a chance at a future together.

This book was a deep and sweet read. I really like Stef Ann Holm’s character development and the family love in this one is very evident. They are real people with real fears and struggles. So far this was my favourite book of the series. It was deeper and more emotionally captivating than the others were in my opinion. I really liked these two families coming together and would recommend this story to anyone who likes a somewhat suspenseful happily ever after.

This is a lovely story based in a town that maintains community values and welcomes strangers as friends. From the very beginning the place feels right, and that is a novelty to our female lead. When she meets Nick, the feeling gets even stronger. Through this slightly magical tale, we get to know a wonderful bunch of characters and watch them deal with the issues life throws at them. The twist near the end had some serious tears forming - such an old soul in a young body - very moving. I had every faith that I would be smiling by the end, just not sure till I got there, why that would be!

I recommend this story to you - it is uplifting and life affirming - two qualities we can never get in excess.
